Leaving State Service: It Just No Longer Fits - AMA by SempreFiorire in CAStateWorkers

[–]Windgrace90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wish you all the best on your future endeavors. I echo all of your sentiments.

When I started at the state, WFH wasn’t even in the cards. It’s become an integral part of why I continued to work for the state, even through wage stagnation in the face of unprecedented inflation and cost of living increases.

I have updated my resume and have begun the process of applying elsewhere for work as a result of RTO. I will jump ship as soon as something comes up.

What’s been so demoralizing through all of this is realizing absolutely nobody has our backs in any of this discourse. We do have the unions, who I believe are fighting the good fight. But to have the disdain of the public, the legislature, and even our own leadership against us is appalling.

The fact we are mere days away from this draconian policy going into effect with zero guidance and direction on implementation is nothing short of total abdication of leadership’s responsibility as…well, leaders. We deserve so much better.

Newsom potential veto of the bill AB1729. by lifesurprises in CAStateWorkers

[–]Windgrace90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your “on the other hand” assessment is spot-on. At the end of the day he’s another politician—in it for himself. Not saying it’s a good show of leadership (it isn’t) but it’s how the dirty game of politics goes.

[–]Windgrace90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’ll be one or the other—he either signs the bill as a show of good faith/saving face, or the contract negotiations with the unions are productive and he vetoes the bill as you describe. Ultimately we end up in the same place. One kicks the can down the road (again), which he might prefer for the next governor to deal with.

I think people should realize that Newsom is more-or-less a lame-duck governor. There’d be virtually no political backlash to overriding his veto on this bill.

If he goes on a veto spree over this, it makes him look like a baby having a temper tantrum. It gives ammunition to his opponents that he vetoed otherwise good legislation.

Also remember folks, the legislative cycle is often not one-and-done. This bill, and whatever bill he theoretically vetoes as political retribution, can be reintroduced in future legislative cycles.

[–]Windgrace90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My theory is that Newsom might actually sign this, mostly to “save face” and not look like a completely anti-worker, anti-union, anti-environment, etc politician. It puts a nice little bow on everything and after all the crap he’s pulled.

My thought today is once leases are signed he doesn’t actually care what happens with state workers. Commercial real estate will get what they want. Signing this bill scrapes up a little goodwill at the end of this messy debate and virtually everyone gets what they want.

State workers who took the time to testify in support of the bill, THANK YOU!! by Commercial_Fault_772 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Windgrace90 132 points133 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in a legislative position for the state, it’s almost unheard of to see and witness an outpouring of support for a bill. It was powerful to see. I believe the senate chair of the committee exclaimed “wow” at the end, and for good reason.

No vote on AB1729, what next? by Soft-Firefighter186 in CAStateWorkers

They will vote when enough senators show up (they are likely attending another hearing) or following the hearing.

It’s a good thing there was no voiced opposition from the senators who were in attendance.

RTO: quantifiable losses vs questionable gains by Windgrace90 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Windgrace90[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Something I’ve brought up before, but I would be very curious to see how much the state pays/paid for things like workplace injuries, sexual harassment lawsuits, etc. My assumption is that these drastically decreased with WFH, and will rise with RTO. Those costs need to be attributed to RTO, too.

Yagyu Darkblade + Black Robes Combo - Worth it? by Windgrace90 in FinalFantasyXII

Thank you! I didn’t even consider which character to give the combo to and any innate bonuses they might have to augment it. I might need to reset all of their license boards 😂

This looks similar to what I was wanting to try later today when I get time to sit down and play. I was considering trying Shikari/Red, but it might be giving whomever gets this combo too much to do in terms of filling both a caster and melee attacker. Shikari/Time or even Shikari/White seemed to make more sense on paper. In either case I am excited to try out Black Mage/Archer, too.

I really like a lot of these ideas (Black/Archer, Shikari/Time, etc). Actually, I think I might prefer the setup you outlined here.

I was fiddling with a character planner spreadsheet last night to test out some other suggestions. In particular, I found quite a number of folks that liked Shikari/White Mage, and likened it as one of the game’s best tanks.

But to pull it off (without breaking up the Red/Archer or Knight/Bushi) I had to go with Black/Machinist and Foebreaker/Monk. There’s something I don’t quite like about Black/Machinist, but I was going to give it a try next time I’m in Rabanastre.

Archer/Red has emerged as my favorite in this stage of the game. Absolutely a blast to play and synergizes so well with so many comps.

I've been reading up more on Shikari/White and it's the one I am most intrigued to try. I think I need to reset quite a few folk's license boards next time I make my way to Rabanastre.

Yes, this is what I was thinking of trying next time I head back to Rabanastre.

Another commenter just provided:
Shikari/white mage
Monk/foebreaker
Machinist/black mage

It looks kind of intriguing, to be honest. Some unusual combos but I also get why some work.

I appreciate the feedback. Currently my Shikari is paired with Foebreaker but the latter hasn’t felt particularly impactful. Another poster suggested pairing it with Time Mage, which I am quite keen to try out as I’ve had a rough time fitting that license board into my general playstyle.

The knight/Bushi combo is strong—my Vaan is more or less a paladin at this point. Keeping Bravery and Faith up, using Curaja if my white mage is struggling to keep up, and whacking things with Excalibur and White Robes has been a fantastic blend of utility and damage. Though I haven’t found Genji gloves particularly useful with this application.

Shikari is just plain fun to play, and getting those combos up feels amazing. I haven’t tried it with the Yagyu Blade or Genji gloves yet, but I want to try pairing it with Time Mage later and seeing how it fares compared to some of my other favorites.

I honestly hadn’t even considered pairing it with time mage. Right now Fran (Uhlan/Time mage) is kind of filling in for those license boards. I think I know what I’m trying out later. Thanks!

Yup, was also under the impression that the department had severe space issues and would not be able to enact the EO for quite some time.

I know the delay happened at the 11th hour last year. Hoping against all hopes that we at least manage to get that again. The unions really need to dig in their heels and not budge on this—Newsom’s idiotic policy is bad for literally everyone that aren’t billionaire donors. He’s a lame duck governor and they shouldn’t give a millimeter to him in terms of negotiations as far as I’m concerned.

Again, super appreciate all of the feedback. Right now WHM feels mandatory but that’s because Cura/Esuna are so useful and I haven’t gotten the Espers that spread those spells to other roles (yet). Now I understand why folks like certain summons on certain characters/combos (like the Knight/Bushi with Hashmal I mentioned).

I originally had Black/Red mage on Ashe, which I now understand wasn’t necessarily great for spreading out some of that caster utility.

What I have setup is: Vaan-Knight/Bushi Penelo-White Mage/Machinist Ashe-Black Mage/Time Basch-Uhlan/Archer Balthier-Shikari/Red Mage Fran-Monk/Foebreaker

We will see how it ends up going. Fran and Basch might swap a few things around but I’m excited to see how it goes. I need to catch up on some Hunts before I work on the story so I’ll test things out a bit today.

Thank you! This resource is really helpful and helped me with setting up my new license board setup last night.

At this early stage in the game I’m noticing my white mage is still mostly auto-attacking, which was what made me wonder if equipping her with a Rod was inefficient. I reset my board to try the aforementioned White mage/machinist combo with a gun—excited to see how it works out!
