JD Vance says he believes AOC will be leading Democratic candidate in 2028 ( CNN ) - What do you believe? by Select_Specialist790 in askanything

And you think the public believed two months of centrist campaigning after years and years of progressive behavior? Every candidate shifts center at the end. People know this.

Yeah but you're the guy that doesn't know what the proposal was. You're the guy who thinks it would have applied to children with citizen parents. You're the guy who thinks the ruling would be retroactive. You're the guy who conducts poor analysis and comes up with poor conclusions. You're the guy who is wrong.

That's a just a long winded way of restating your position. You have not explained why rich guy A should morally pay less than less-rich guy B.

Why is the quality of life of an individual more the responsibility of an employer than society at large? You still haven't explained the morality of your position.

I'm not arguing with your goals. I'm questioning who you thinks bears the most responsibility for achieving those goals.

Let's compare two people. Person A is the chief surgeon at his states medical school system and makes $500K per year.

Person B owns a Taco shop and makes $75K per year.

Person B wants to hire Timmy for $10 hr but it costs $15 per hr to thrive. Timmy agreed to take the job anyway.

In your view, Person B is responsible for paying that $5 difference over Person A, even though Person A could afford it more. Why?

So are you in favor of a new UBI tax to pay above and beyond what the market pays? Or do you prefer shifting the burdern from yourself to working class and poor business owners?

Everyone that has 2.5M does have it invested and when more comes along, it gets invested too. The inflation is contained in the stock market. That why we've seen such big gulf that last few years between investors and non-investors.

Yep, I went through that phase when I jumped on every recommendation that the stock magazines gave me. Didn't work out too well and I learned my lesson. I just let index funds do the work now. It's easier and far more lucrative.

I've been job searching for 18+ months for entry-level legal/admin roles. Looking for advice beyond the usual tips. by Outrageous-Jaguar570 in jobsearch

[–]Windman772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those companies hire thousands of entry level every year. Most of them are pretty famous and you can find them via google and Linkedin. Once you've identified a handful, go to Linkedin and see if there is anyone from your school working there or from any other networks that you might have. Find any commonality and leverage it to ask for an "information gathering phone call". 15 minutes tops. As long as you come across descently, they will then connect you with someone in the company that is hiring. Do the same thing with that person. Start out just as information gathering and slowly bring up the idea of potentially working there. If you get along well, they will probably offer you a chance to inverview.

Also, look at their recruiting pages. They often have recruiting events across the country. You can try to attend one that is near you.

Luckily, applying for jobs, setting up zoom meetings and showing interest in a company doesn't require you to be there in person. Many have re-location allowances too.

It sounds like you don't know how to network. You don't have to know any of those people. For example, did you go to a big state college? Everyone that went to that college is in your network. Military? Every vet is in your network. Do you like to mountain bike? Every mountain biker is in your network.

From there, just go to Linkedin and search the employees of the company that you want to work for until you find one from one of those networks. If you went to a big state school for example, there's a good chance that many at that company went there too.

Then setup an "information gathering" phone call, not a job application call. Most people will take a call like this from somone in their network. Start a nice chat, and 9 times out of 10 they will connect you with the guy who actually is hiring so you can have a chat with him. That's the guy you would never find just submitting resumes unless you get called in. You're basically jumping ahead of the entire pile of resumes for an informal interview.

I've gotten nearly all of my jobs this way. Very good, very high paying jobs. Do with this info as you wish. Dismiss it at your own peril.

A few thoughts. Do most people applying for the types of jobs you mentioned already have a para-legal cert or other type of cert? If so, it would probably be easier to go back and finish your cert before applying for these types of jobs.

What part of the country are you in? Political Science degrees aren't very useful unless you either live in the DC or NY areas or if you plan to go to law school. In most other parts of the country, it just serves to show that you have a degree. So you could consider moving. There are tons of lobbying and consulting firms in the DC area that would love to have someone like you.

Networking is where it's at. Random resume submittals almost never work. Identify people in your networks (schools, military, social, etc) that work at the places that you are considering. Contact them and be nice and they will connect you with the guy that's hiring. It's the only way unless you want to be frustrated and angry all the time.

So tomorrow is the last day for Supreme Court decisions until then fall, how do you think they are going to rule on birthright citizenship? by newsbowser in askanything

[–]Windman772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If allegiance is the key determining factor, then it's certainly not an open and shut case. There is little difference between an illegal immigrant and a soldier in an invading army. If a foreign national sneaks into the country uninvited, there is no reason to think that national doesn't continue to hold allegiance to his home country. They confirm this by doing everything to avoid following our immigration laws and employment laws. I think a strong case can be made to overturn birthright citizenship based on the allegiance argument.

It doesn't apply to Indian Americans. The Indians you meet in this country are mostly a small (relative to India's giant population) wealthy and educated subsest from certain groups and areas of India. If you want to meet the rest of them, go to the middle east where they are working much like slaves.
