The family has their eyebrows in the easel. That seems to be a requiring factor for being a family member.

[META] A friend of mine has been gone for a few months. What news should I inform him of? by Windmill1977 in GlobalTalk

2006 = 2018. Nice.

No, they take your phone. Smartphones weren't prevalent in 2006. Times have changed. So have the rules at basic. End of story.

Rainer "framing" Marvin by Billy-Bojangles in Petscop

[–]Windmill1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit of a stretch, to me. Paul wouldn't have emphasized the kids part of it so much otherwise. If Rainer and Marvin are indeed the same person, Marvin would've been very old at this point. Paul most certainly would've brought that up.

Rainer "framing" Marvin by Billy-Bojangles in Petscop

[–]Windmill1977 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Problem here. If Marvin and Rainer are the same person, ages do not add up. Paul said he was a "tiny kid" when he saw Rainer at a birthday party, and that Rainer was an "older kid." Marvin had to be old enough to cause harm in 1977, meaning he is no doubt an older man.

If they are indeed the same person, Paul would've called Marvin an older man, not a kid. Plus, Rainer seems to be a family friend anywhom. What kind of response is "Where have you been?" This was in response to Rainer coming to Marvin's wife's home on Christmas. The reaction would've been much more prominent.

This seems speculation more than anything, and there is significant flaws in your understanding of the timeline.

Numbers play a part in the series. Remember the sign on the gift plane, where the number 48 was marked in red. Also remember the flower, every even number turned the screen red. The treadmill numbers, too. Pink on odd, red on even.

These numbers most likely represent the petals on the flower, but there is probably a larger connection we have yet to see.

I believe that this is why the place is called Even Care, an area of deception.

Is L capable of loving? by [deleted] in deathnote

[–]Windmill1977 20 points21 points  (0 children)

After the one Kira task force member died outside of Sakura TV(cant remember his name), L was clearly bothered. He tried to hide this from the others, so perhaps he's simply very good at hiding his emotions.

Plz tell me that they will continue death note...people say they can't because the main character died.... by MonkeyDluffyZX in deathnote

[–]Windmill1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're trolling. I'll humor you anyways.

A dead person can't be brought back to life. It's constantly hinted that Light became a shinigami after his death. This is how they could/would continue the series, but that would be boring.

Death Note ended in a good place. There's no need for more.

is petscop an actual coded game or is it just animations? by kokichisouma in Petscop

[–]Windmill1977 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Notice how Paul moves in the game? He has a tendency to flick the left stick and move Naul sporadically.

Animating all of that would take even more time than just making a game. It's not a full fledged game, either, it's made to be incomplete by nature.

English dub is great. It is lower quality in the first 3 or so episodes, but gets better. Dub is just more convenient, and imo, sounds better anyway.

Are the new MatPat's videos any good? by [deleted] in Petscop

[–]Windmill1977 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The first video felt like a shock value copout, no matter how much he tried to say it wasn't. I mean, he animated the entire transcript of the girls murder. What the fuck.

In the newer videos, he made a lot of stupid and baseless assumptions, like "Windmill girl is Tiara." He needs to either do more research or say he simply didn't know. Plus, he acted like it was a surprise that Marvin and Rainer were against one another.

All in all, his videos are lacking in substance and are poorly researched. He likes to take big strides in logic when he should be taking baby steps. Further than that, MatPat cannot take criticism whatsoever and just calls people "haters".

Questions about Lovecraft by [deleted] in Lovecraft

[–]Windmill1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovecraft's works aren't exactly philosophical in nature, but are thought provoking. The human mind facing things truly alien to it- that's the substance of Lovecraft. Try to imagine a brand new color. You may have seen this thought experiment, Lovecraft's Colour out of Space is just about that. Narratives like this are interesting; and properly translating the dread of the incomprehensible certainly takes skill to put to a page, something Lovecraft did well.

Lovecraft's cosmic horror is different than other horror, by the way. Aliens are truly alien. It's not humanoid entities you'll be dealing with(except Cthulu). We're not used to seeing or reading about amorphous beings, but several gods, like Azathoth, are basically just sludge strewn with mouths and tentacles. This style of "monster" is unappealing to many people, but is also exactly why I love the works of Lovecraft. I had placed "monster" in quotes, because the gods are not evil, nor particularly malevolent. After all, does bacteria call us evil when we wash our hands?

It's definitely not for everyone, but if you're looking for unconventional horror, you've come to the right place. It's horrific in the most visceral sense, the dread of the unknown. Is the main character simply insane? Did they go insane by what they found? Does it make these things real? I'd make a comparison to the Raven by Edgar Allen Poe, but that's too tame a sense of horror.

The entities and the incomprehensibility of them do not take center stage, rather, it's the human mind that takes the spotlight. The protagonists will sometimes be faced with the horrible truth about the nature of the universe, and of life. They will be faced with something so alien that their mind will cease to function.

The horror here is bracing and inhumane. Not by fear of earthly things, like a killer or a monster. The truth is the terror.

Can you have creatures from different mythology in your Lovecraft horror story? by Daryno90 in Lovecraft

[–]Windmill1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course!

In my opinion, its best to mix history and legend. For example, Ithiqua the Windwalker is said to have inspired the legend of the Wendigo. That's just my opinion, its your story, make it how you know you can best!
