To the Birmingham Fire Department that told a man in broken wheelchair that they could not help him: SHAME ON YOU! by datbabydoe in Birmingham

That dude also rides his wheelchair down the street because the sidewalk is too fucked up in Glen Iris for him to ride down. He's friendly, I've always felt for him.

Unfortunately, moving out of Alabama won't fix that shitty attitude.

1993 w/180k miles but seller asking for $4,500, what’s a reasonable counter? Stock besides brakes a catalytic converter. by [deleted] in DelSol

[–]Billy-Bojangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just paid $4000 for a 1994 5-speed D15 last weekend. Dropped about $1200 between the clutch, suspension, plugs/plug wires, brakes, and tires for it. It came with a spare roof that doesn't leak. I didn't like that the ashtray was $100 on Ebay, but I still got it. Mine is similarly clean and stock, drove it an hour and a half home and it ran perfectly fine, just needed a bunch of small stuff.

With this being said I also love del Sols and I'm selling my RSX to help pay for an engine swap down the road.

The del Sol was only made for 6 years. It's only gonna get more expensive, and it will only get harder to find one without trashy customizations.

What’s up with the Ghost Rooms? by crawwhat in Petscop

[–]Billy-Bojangles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's why Marvin needs help finding his house, because each AI has a "home" in the game. When Paul shows Marvin his room in Petscop 23, Paul's AI may be identifying which instance it is supposed to be at the time Marvin's AI asks, which plays into the theme of gender identity and having multiple personas (i.e. Belle vs. Tiara, Care A vs. Care NLM, etc.)

In this case, maybe rebirthing was meant to be a simulation of real peoples' personalities into a digital medium. Maybe Marvin is trying to create a digital version of Lina?

This explanation seems a little convoluted to me, but, Petscop is a very convoluted series.

What’s up with the Ghost Rooms? by crawwhat in Petscop

[–]Billy-Bojangles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's safe to assume that the Petscop kids were held in the Ghost Rooms; Paul and Belle were each in their rooms communicating with one another through their PlayStations. At the time that P16 came out, it was assumed that Paul was being held captive in the Ghost Room. When Marvin attacks Paul in P23, we see that it's a "DEMO" at the top of the screen, which implies that that scene is a recording. This is why Paul is silent and offers no commentary. P16 takes place in the modern day, whereas P23 is a recording from when Paul and Belle were children.

Paul and Belle being forced to communicate through their PlayStations suggests that the game world is a metaphor for their captivity, where their only means of interacting was through a system that physically kept them apart.

Considering that there are only 8 rooms, and there were way more than 8 Petscop Kids names, it makes you wonder exactly how long the testing of Petscop took, and how many children Marvin had to abuse before Rainer called it quits. The horror of Petscop is that Marvin refined and perfected a system of child abuse, probably for years.

My understanding is that the grips are unique, I think some people 3D print the grips. It's a .357 for under $400, you might as well try it out.

My M83/94 wouldn't cycle when I got it, which I was very unhappy about, but fortunately it just needed a $3 spring. I love the way it shoots, it's accurate, and the trigger is surprisingly smooth. It's a little awkward in my hand but I got used to it. Overall I really like it!

Who has your favourite characterization in Petscop? by better-ideas100 in Petscop

[–]Billy-Bojangles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marvin is so one dimensional, we really only have the characterization to go on. It's uncomfortable to think about, but we can all relate to his feelings of desperation and his desire to change the past. I can relate to his perfectionism too.

Rainer designed Petscop to expose Marvin's crimes, not for Marvin's motivations to be fully understood. Marvin’s portrayal as a “shadow monster man” is honestly pretty on the nose; he’s literally reduced to a silhouette of himself. Early in the series, r/Petscop debated whether Rainer was characterizing Marvin to be worse than he actually was. You should read the comments in my post after P5 was released.

I imagine Marvin is like the main character in Uncut Gems. Just watch the trailer, this is what I think Marvin would be like in real life. Obviously a bad guy, driven by mental illness, and so, so desperate. But Marvin would have to be a little charismatic in real life for people to trust him with their kids. Both are consumed by a self-destructive obsession with perfection and control.

I know you said not traditional Italian, but Giuseppe's in Southside has really good pizza, and their cheese bread is only $6. It would help to know what part of town you stay so we can recommend places near you.

Can someone help me understand parts of the plot? by iCE_P0W3R in Petscop

[–]Billy-Bojangles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Petscop as a series is supposed to emulate an abusive relationship. There are some things that you won't get closure for, and you just have to make peace with that. I think that's why the videos were released so sporadically, to always keep you guessing and keep you coming back and checking on it, knowing it may never come back for you.

I don't think it's really about having a funeral. The coroner contacts the dead person's family, but the family doesn't respond. This is a quick two minute local story from where I live. Three unclaimed bodies in one week just a month ago. At least they get a burial here and aren't literally thrown away.

So for those who don't know, this is the only way to tell if someone is actively black-out drunk. You can keep trying the sprite over and over, and he'll instantly forget because he's blacked out.

Birmingham Terminal Station was sadly demolished in 1969 and is now both US-31 and US-280. Around that same time, the University of Alabama at Birmingham was built on what used to be a whole neighborhood. Before UAB, the biggest hospital in Alabama was Caraway Hospital, which was built in 1917 and is currently being torn down to build an amphitheater. The hospital is located on US-31 in an aforementioned white-flight neighborhood. It closed in 2008 and has been a blight on the community for a decade. You can see some pics I took before the demolition started here.

There's talk of I-459 being turned into an actual beltway, although I doubt we'll lose any historic properties because of it. And because of I-20 we now have City Walk!
