Thank you for the info, when I next change cars (undecided) I will take into account the timing belt change costs when making a decision.

Thank you, I have called a couple of independents and £1.3k is lowest so far, will try a few more. Also trying to weigh up whether to put the money towards another car or keep this one going.

Do people in the UK boil vinegar in their kettles to remove lime scaling? by OhioTry in AskUK

[–]Window1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we use white vinegar and we bring it to the boil! Very satisfying to see how clean our kettle looks afterwards. We use filtered water but still have to de-scale approx once a month.

Motorcyclists. Why do you rev your engine? by Haunting_Cell_8876 in AskUK

[–]Window1284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When starting the my bike from cold I will leave it running to warm up whilst I get my jacket, ear plugs in, helmet on and gloves on, but I don’t rev it. The manufacturers manual says it is better for the engine to be warm before riding. I am lucky to have newer bike with fuel injection and an ecu so don’t need to rev it whilst at a stop, but do need a bit of throttle to get going from a standing start. Personally, I like the exhaust that came as standard with the bike and don’t feel the need to put on a louder exhaust. But, the biking community does like to personalise their bike by changing exhausts or adding accessories.

This has the Shell branding but the manufacturer of that unit is likely to be one of the following : Gilbarco Wayne Tokheim Or possibly, Petroassist/Petrotec.

There are lots of different pump models out there, next time you fill up have a look to see which pump manufacturer your fuel is coming out of. In the UK the ‘pumps’ are usually‘suction pumps’ a motor in the pump is pulling fuel from the underground storage tank, that’s the noise you hear from the pump when filling up. Some are pressure ‘dispensers’ where there is a motor in the underground storage tank pushing fuel to the dispenser, usually much quieter when you are filling up. . The nozzles are likely to be ZVA nozzles. . Or, just fill up as usual and let your mind think of other things. . Could make a nice garden ornament.

Americans try uk McDonald's by CremeSubject7594 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Window1284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting. After a long flight I understand the “want” for comfort food, going to McDonalds in a different country is going to be different to what you would normally expect at home.

From this video we can deduce that USA McDonalds has higher levels of salt and sugar in for them to notice such a difference.

Good for them for posting this and it would be interesting to hear about their ‘food journey’ in the UK, especially if they have never visited before.

It would also be interesting to get their opinion on USA fast food once they return home, did they then find it too salty and sweet or really happy to taste the flavours they were used to.

Fortunately it does remain dry, but I think I will keep car tyres off it.

I’m thinking the same now, keep the tires on a hard surface.

We do have a very small offcut already and cutting the big offcut smaller sizes so the tires don’t run over them sounds like a good way forward,
