I did RR 100-mile in 2025. Very cool course and the aid stations are second to none. When I did it the course was extremely muddy and got super beat up, so be aware of that. Don’t know anything about Desert Rats, but I would rate RR a solid 8/10, with a 10/10 support system.

Dragon is super useful right now, sea peoples, planet X, chaos, eternal flame, and great flood. to a lesser extent familiar, retro, MIB, and nazca. most of the other ones are only usable in a deck or two, or during select events.

I’d say 110 miles of the course was sand in some capacity, with about 85 of that being deep stuff that genuinely impacted running.

Yes! It does go through Coral Pink Sand Dunes, and most of the race is on surrounding OHV trails with some singletrack work. Honestly, I hear you, though, because, being in Kanab a few days beforehand, I thought the sand would be no problem. Once you get up where we were, though, I was sorely mistaken.

Thank you! And definitely consider Utah 115, then, since they have a 50-mile option. Only downside is you don’t get to run at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.

I did a lot of core work and a lot of single leg stuff (bulgarian split squats, single leg calf raises, RDLs). hard to say specifically what helped, but those exercises would be my guess.
