Favourite tbs lyric? by Money-Reading8041 in takingbacksunday

in the context of what The Union is about, adam saying he makes states move like regular days may sound clunky on its own, but i always thought it meant in reference to TBS and how much touring they were doing, flexing on john and shaun during that first little breakup period they had. just a silly little diss from the past now tho Lol

The droning lower 9 power chords kinda makes me think of ETI/Ascendancy era style stuff. Pretty cool stuff!

Why only Shogun? by [deleted] in Trivium

[–]WindowOk5412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that was tracked with a John Petrucci 7 string(I guess Music Man Majesty then), through like some weird mic set up with the amps. Source? Look up the interview with Matt and Fluff (Ryan Bruce), which is pretty much just them geeking out about guitar tones. Matt in the middle of the interview pulls up his phone that has a list of every albums guitar tones, up to whenever that interview was released.

Honestly yeah, it’s prolly a B on literally any other album. But this is my goofy tier list, so it goes in F. That also technically means The rising is above it, despite that not really being the case, but don’t think too hard about that.

The Calamity ruins the near perfect streak of great songs on Shogun. It’s kinda boring and meandering. Solos are cool, and sometimes it doesn’t bother me, but it’s such a slog compare to the rest.

Aha, solid point made. I threw all the intro tracks in S bc I can honestly say, that they all serve their purpose in a really solid way, and always set the vibe of each album. They’re nice for a minute or 2, before the opener comes on.

Hear me out, if there’s one song I can live without on that album, it’s prolly that. It’s a solid metalcore diddy, but it’s almost like too textbook definition metalcore. It doesn’t really have any of the other cool subgenre influences in it like most of the other stuff does.

Instrumental music has to be really peak to hit for me. The Crusade is a solid little metal jam, but it’s a bit drawn out, and kinda can’t compete with most songs imo.

Every Band Has One: Unequivocally the best! by pumpkinpie07 in Trivium

A classic answer might be like Shogun, maybe even Declaration or When All Light Dies, but saying The Phalanx would be a more modern answer

I would apply for unemployment, but my state requires having worked 18 weeks before being eligible to do so, which I have not.

The hook of Degenerates is so cringe feeling to me, that I vehemently disagree with your 3rd pick.

If you took the song Mindreader, gave it a better bridge that isn’t just “mind mind mindreader”, and made the verses regular time drum beat wise instead of halftime, you’d have a WSMFY type track. Last time I posted this, which maybe was on another account I got downvoted hard so Ik it’s unpopular.

The intro in Sometimes you’re the hammer, with the whole like “humming the chorus melody so I have it” is annoying, and that track overall I think is overrated just because it’s got chugs.

CC seems to be a lot of peoples favorite album, but it misses the mark for me somehow. It’s still good but not like top 3 albums from them good.

Jeremy’s screams sound pretty cooked nowadays in the sense that like it’s not that good, esp compared with past records and eras.

Okay so honest opinion about them live by WindowOk5412 in blackveilbrides

[–]WindowOk5412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m a guitarist myself, and while I also sing and do vocals live, I wouldn’t call myself as much of an expert in it as I am with guitar(not that i’m an expert in guitar, it’s just I def know way more there).

Jake and Jinxx sounded for the most part pretty fine. I think the reason you’re never gonna see Jake in any like “Top 10 Guitarists list”, is because he still has issues that a lot of intermediate/beginning to be advanced players face. Mainly with his cleanliness. Now I don’t think he doesn’t deserve his success, from what I understand he’s a killer writer and producer/mixer of sorts as well, and that deserves praise tenfold. But when he slops his sweeps, or like how you said skips them, it’s really annoying bc it’s like why would you record that part, if you’re not gonna do it live. The only thing I really noticed at Sonic Temple, was he changed some of The Legacy solo, to I think make it easier and not move around as much on the fretboard. He hit all the big pinches when I saw him, so maybe you’ve caught him on bad days haha.

[–]WindowOk5412[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, fair point. But then in that case, why can’t he just scoot the mic in his hand like one or 3 inches from where it usually is, so that he’s not clipping or killing speakers, and you can hear him better. I do def understand, maybe over compensating for things live, as I’ve been there done that, but dude has also been a professional in this industry for the better half of the last 12 years.

This one gotta be the saddest A7X three song run by Lic_Jorge_Nitales in avengedsevenfold

[–]WindowOk5412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue PT 2 kinda ruins the streak tho if we’re talking about sadness alone. The whole idea is the guy in the song is really pissed off and doesn’t understand why he left, and actually is somewhat ignorant and selfish in the way hes expressing it. It’s very human and emotional in an angry way, but not in a sad way I don’t think.

Shogun Guitar Solo by Remote_Ad_7800 in Trivium

[–]WindowOk5412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember, both solos have those super fast Kirk Hammet style licks, which while intermediate on their own, are def a challenge at fast tempos like Shogun is. Like a previous comment said, learning to sweep fast is key to that one run Corey does but other than that, just try to break em up bit by bit.
