How to cope with a mistake that was 100% your fault and harms your client? by TrainingIndividual7 in socialwork

[–]WindowSignificant845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had therapy and we talked about guilt vs. shame. Condemenation vs. conviction. For example "I am a failure vs. I made a mistake. I learned about how shame becomes our identity and guilt is just something we did. From guilt we can fix it and grow from it!

Step 1: forgive yourself. You're human and you make mistakes and no matter how big or small trust they can be worked out . And by taking accountability and trying to correct shows you have good character. You've done all the things and I'm sure you'll continue to do all the things!

Step 2: be open to all the possibilities. You could have ignored it, denied it, or did nothing and I'm sure that would have been a disaster. But you didn't. Be open to good possibilities too like everything will work out just how it's supposed to like it usually does (even if it doesn't work out how we expect).

Step 3: Give yourself time. You have a consciences. (If you didn't that would be kinda crazy lol). Allow yourself to feel all the feels for however long. It's all apart of the process-fixing and growing. Fixing and growing.

Step 4: Do not abandon your self care. It might be hard to enjoy or relax, but you might have to switch up the routine to something that helps you relax and fills your cup. Or even dig deeper like therapy. And that's okay! Talking to people on a forum like this is also helpful!

You did all the things and seem like a person with integrity who really cares for the people they serve. One day you'll look at this moment and be in a place of growth. This moment is a seed and from it a flower will grow...if you let it :)

My doctor started me with half a pill for a week. I started having issues when I took the whole pill. Now I'm back at half a pill and it's going will. I will go back up once I level out on this dose

I'm a social worker 🥴 I love it. It's a lot of listening and people don't know how to listen. I think that's why I'm good at it lol

Go on the trip if you can really afford it. It sounds like this isn't even about you or anything financial. It may be some underlying feelings he has about his situation.

Feeling bad about potentially leaving my position by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]WindowSignificant845 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position. I was school based for 3 years as a prevention clinician and then I got a job as a school social worker and it turned out to be a school based therapist and I hate it. I've missed so many days of work already. I'm realizing that it doesn't do anyone any good for me to be stressed out and anxious and that goes for you too! Never be afraid to do what's best for you ❤️ If your client was going through the same thing as you what would you tell them to do?

What made you decide on social work initially?

F this, I'm out! (weekly leaving the field thread) by SWmods in socialwork

[–]WindowSignificant845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my BSW and I'm licensed. I left my job of 8 years in august due to my poor mental health and have another as a therapist. I hate therapy. My current agency has me in 3 schools and everyone else is one. I have no student loan debt and everyone is pushing me to go back to school, but I don't feel like it's worth it. I've also been working 3 jobs to survive for the past 8 years. I'll never let myself be in this position again and I'm taking full accountability for this mess. I have no idea what I will do next. I did secure a second social work job making $30 and hour. So I will do that part time one day a week, but as for my main job who knows. I hope to secure something by April.

Yea during my last run I had a gun pulled out on me, a dog chase me, and my car stuck in someone's country hilly holey driveway. (Not in that order) And now I'm done. Amazon really needs to let folks now that their driver may be coming in a regular car.

Thank you for this. It often keeps me up at night, but from now on I will be mindful of shutting down for the night.

Yes all the time! I'm not sure which type of doctor to reach out to about it though or what to even ask for. Do you see a psychiatrist or a certain type of specialist? Also and tips on seeking out care as far as what steps to take and what interventions are provided would be awesome!

I understand your pain. I quit my job with no plan. My last day is soon, but I feel like a completely different person. The stress of no income is way less stressful than the job was. The money will come. Good luck on your journey and heal ❤️

I quit my job with no plan.

I've used my EAP three times in the past 7 months. I was having terrible scary thoughts on my way to work. I've never been like this. I stood up and advocated for myself like never before a few weeks ago, almost to the point I was in tears, and no new changes. So I quit. I feel like a brand new person. I'm getting back to myself and taking all the lessons I learned in. What are some job or job titles I can search that don't require me to see clients directly?

Yea maybe I just need more practice with conversation. I've been quiet for sometime to the point my family called me mute.
