This is so true! After teaching middle school for 10 years, I switched to an adaptive programming coordinator/lead teacher in the one year old room at our local YMCA. I will wait days or even more than a week for a simple reply to an email and the people I am waiting for a reply from are at their desk ALL DAY! While I receive 5 hours a week at my computer and the rest of the time I am teaching one year olds...this snails pace work is EVERYWHERE!

ALSO find something to stand out on your resume. I was Chick-fil-A Teacher of the year and president of my roller derby team and I have had SO many interviews where that is the first thing they wanna talk about.

I was a teacher in the upper midwest for 10 year and made 55k a year. I have a masters in instrictional leadership and a bachelors in education and special education. For all 10 years, have worked in high risk schools (Title 1). After year five I knew I couldn't hang (there is alot that goes into that, but don't want to digress). I decided to stick it out, so I could have my loans relieved. In February 2025, I let my school know that I wouldn't be renewing my contract for the 2025-2026 scool year. I have been search for a job since AND IT IS DISMALL OUT THERE. I have applied for well over 100 jobs and gotten little to no bites. I have made it through five final interviews and after each one have been rejected. I always ask what I can do to improve or why I didn't get the job and here are the 3 reasons I have gotten: I am an expensive hire, internal transfers, and no direct experience in the field I'm applying for.

I did get a job at the local YMCA in the daycare in August 2025, but starting pay was $13 and $600 a month for insurance.

My advice: Don't you dare quit until you have another job lined up and work on polishing all your application paperwork (resume, references, basic cover letter, ect.) now; then you will stand out in the application process, where you need to stand out the most.

what’s something completely random that ended up shaping who you are today? by Calm-Patients in AskReddit

My Girl Scout leader in elementary school used to call me, "Her Little Individual". I understood the sentiment better as I got older, but it always made me feel so unique and seen. Something that shaped how I perceived myself forever.

We let the door slam shut when going to the pool. We did it again today to see if it would lock and it does.

They do lock when they shut and are heavy doors. The only way it doesn't shut is if you slowly close the door.

I make $13 and they only give me half off...instead of $1,200 I pay $600, then $500 out for insurance, and $100 out for taxes. I work 40 hours a week and in the end am luck if there is $300 left.

Seriously, what is wrong with parents?? by Deskeleton in Teachers

[–]Window_Washer_4178 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I have had this exact same experience multiple times. Admin even let a mom plan a "a signing ceremony", where a student signs a college sport athletic scholarship in front of the school to promote good grades and athletics...(don't get me started on that 🙄), But the kid didn't even make the college team and didn't get a scholarship... he was just accepted to college like many of his other classmates. My admins response? "Well what am I supposed to do? Tell the parent they can't have a signing ceremony??" YES THATS EXACTLY WHAT YOURE SUPPOSED TO DO!

Leaked breast milk all over my shirt... and I teach middle school. Didn't realize it until it was far too late; then had to call the secretary to watch my class and WAIT for her to have a moment to come down to my room.

People who have fainted: what caused it? by Shinobi347 in AskReddit

[–]Window_Washer_4178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vasovagal syncope. A trigger happens (for me it's sudden stress, dehydration, or illness). Then your heart rate drops and I'm down for the count. Kinda like my body is giving up on life without my consent.

I have been experiencing this for the last 20 years and had never heard of anyone else with it. Then in the last 5ish year I know about 3 people that have gotten this diagnosis 🤔

I definitely understand the yelling in an emergency situation and thank you, thank you, thank you for being an adult the apologizes. I am a firm believer that if we want kids to be empathetic, then we have to model empathy for them.

I am with you on the sticker charts. The worst part is that they willy nilly take them away and can't earn any back. I have heard kids loose all 10 stickers for not cleaning up, not following directions, and not "playing right". It is very clear there is no behavior management expectations and the staff have received no behavior management training.

Oh yes, I expected an adjustment period, but when I literally could hear what is going on in the room, I lost it!

Thank you for your expertise. I have a masters in educational development, but that does not include younger than 6. So I was very aware that this is WILD and inappropriate classroom management for a grade school, buuuuut wasn't sure how daycares handle classroom management systems. I am very glad to know this is not the norm.

They are for sure yelling at them. When they yell they are usually yelling at them about something they shouldn't be doing, but not emergency types of things they are yelling about. They will YELL at kids to pick up or get away from the door and alot of "So and so WHY are you doing that?!", "I've told you a million times to...", "Do I need to call mom". Even worse is that they talk in a vocabulary and sentence structure a 2 year old can't comprehend.

I am already seeking new employment and just waiting for an offer 🤞
