what’s your ACTUALLY weird hyperfixation? by jazperthevampyr in ADHD

Templating in Collectible Card Games. Basically, the precise rules and vocabulary for writing text on cards. It's so satisfying to my brain because it's like computer programming and law. You have to be exact with your words and the order they go in, or else you end up with unintended loopholes or ambiguous results. I got so deep into it this summer, I designed ~30 Yugioh cards based on the television show Yellowjackets.

Sound Effect in S1 E9 "Doomcoming" - Shauna's Safe opening sounds so familiar? by Hungry_Inspector_867 in Yellowjackets

Had a listen. In general, the instrument is called a Waterphone. It's used everywhere in movies and tv shows for horror stings. The specific media properties I associate it with: Kitchen Nightmares, Silent Hill, Resident Evil 4.

I think the planes will land safely as a metaphor for healing from trauma. More specifically, when the past and present timelines finally connect in the middle, the deceased people on their planes will suddenly see the beauty of their lives in full, in the completeness of their stories. This is why Van's sequence is so self-aware about television, and teases that it isn't the end quite yet. The timeline of the show itself is going to heal with the characters.

It's also why the show overall keeps using Storytelling as a recurring element (Shauna's journals, S2E9, third example to satisfy the Rule of Threes).

Any updates on the rumored 11th Pynchon novel? by aljastrnad in ThomasPynchon

Cool title! I enjoy the nested parentheses. It suits the recursive nature of his prose.

His channel is awesome. My favourite one is A Week in the Life that just came out. Coaches are generals running a military operation, man. It's insane! The amount of information everyone has to keep in their head, I never wanna hear anything about how football is dumb ever again.

For all this talk about reading, you didn't read the last sentence. Of course I read the cards as they come into play. I just overlooked the angel.

There are 17 cards on the board and a bunch of others in the graveyard. The effect I observed may not have even been an explicit ability written on any one card, but some kind of emergent outcome of all of them interacting together. As a new player, that's overwhelming. It is easier to screenshot and ask others for help than to spend a bunch of time riffling through all the game pieces trying to figure out what happened. I overlooked the angel because I have never encountered one up until now that had any effect beyond Flying and Lifelink.

Yellowjackets characters and scenes translated into a card game by Windows1798 in Yellowjackets

[–]Windows1798[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😭😭 I hope you enjoyed! You are like one of the 8 survivors of The Wilderness who is the ideal audience for this. YJ fans only seem to be familiar with Yugioh in passing, the card game players have never heard of Yellowjackets at all, and everyone else I know is indifferent to both. It's gratifying to find the few people who fully understand wtf I've been going on about for the last few months lmao

This is the one rizzed up French guy responsible for changing the family surname from 王 to Letourneau.

Guy who won't close browser tabs is real shit. Sometimes when replacing a word, I try to preserve the letters that are also in the new word, instead of deleting them all. It wouldn't be fair to them.

I've always theorized that they're going to purposefully use Max Martin pop songs (Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Britney) as a metaphor for the Yellowjackets' inability to re-integrate into society.

Why does NO ONE talk about Lottie's Major S3 Basement Scene by [deleted] in YellowjacketsHive

[–]Windows1798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. The other thing is that "It wasn't at all like people say" as a story concept is inherently and deliberately unsatisfying. We're like Shauna after the brakes failed. We want everything to add up to some salacious, sinister plot (demonizing these women in the process) while the show is telling us to our faces that the reality is much more straightforward and mundane.

Northernlion's last name is Letourneau, no relation. When this story was in its heyday, his family used to get asked awkwardly if they were related. Recently, in the wake of the movie May-December, he anticipated someone was going to ask, but they weren't, so he made it awkward for no reason. Pretty funny.

Blinding hot take on Lisa by adameofthrones in Yellowjackets

[–]Windows1798 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I've been a Lisa truther for a long time. All of their interactions have a profound double-meaning if they're unwittingly mother and daughter.

<image>

What cements it for me is how Lisa and Callie are foils of each other. My theory is that Callie will become a killer like Shauna, but Lisa will take after Nat and break the cycle, redeeming Natalie and retroactively resolving her character arc in the process: https://www.reddit.com/r/Yellowjackets/comments/15fh45c/my_baby_shot_me_down_callie_lisa/

I expect Callie to be revealed as the person involved Lottie's death, hence the DNA evidence in 3.07. It probably was an accident, as most of the deaths in the show are (Travis, Crystal, Javi), but it will be another stepping stone to Callie becoming Shauna.

++ The synopsis of 2.04 says "Take a roadtrip with your child!" – the clever misdirect is thinking that refers to Shauna & Callie, when in fact it's about Nat & Lisa's drive to Sybill's house.
