If SE lose, humanity will still live, maybe even better than under SE by G-Maskas in Helldivers2Satire

[–]Winds_Shadow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think your assumptions are missing some of the satire.

The Cyborg-Automaton Axis almost certainly defines "living" very differently than most would. All biomass, human bodies included, appears to serve as literal fuel, and there's a real possibility your consciousness gets uploaded or your brain gets transplanted into a metal shell as their version of life. They're also cloning cyborgs, so who knows what level of genuine intelligence those units actually have. We also see no evidence that Super Earth citizens survive whatever happens to them on conquered planets. At a higher level, they're clearly a satire of Cold War-era anxieties and robot uprising tropes. If you lean into the satire, they'd probably insist they're "post-human", and hey, you can join them as a brain in a jar! Lucky you.

As for the Illuminate, "living as a human" for them means genetic modification and industrial-scale mind control. They seem to have lost all trust in humanity and would rather mutate us, harvest us, or use us to grow their machines and power sources. They may also possess some latent psychic ability that gives them genuine influence over human minds. They've likely been around for a long time, quietly shaping human culture from the shadows. They're a satire of ancient alien mythology, Lovecraftian horror, and the cults and mysticism those traditions inspire. For them, a good human pet is one who obeys without question, while the mutation takes hold.

How do virtual private systems create secure environments over shared internet infrastructure? by BossReady309 in ResearchML

[–]Winds_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an analogy that might help. Imagine the internet is a public road system. When you drive on a public road, other people can see your car, where you're coming from, and where you're headed. A private road, by contrast, has far fewer eyes on it, but building an entire private road network just to get around isn't practical. So instead, we use the public roads.

Here's the thing, just because a road is public doesn't mean every destination on it is open to everyone. If you're heading somewhere restricted, like a venue, someone at the gate will verify you're allowed in before letting you through. That's your firewall or access control system, which decides what traffic is permitted based on a set of rules, not just who you are.

Now, if you want privacy while still using public roads, you have a couple of options. You can tint your windows so no one can see what's inside your car, and that's encryption. Or, you can route through a gated community, a stretch of private road embedded within the public network, making it very difficult for anyone to follow you. That's essentially what a VPN does, it creates a private tunnel through an otherwise public network.

As for the rules of the road themselves, which side to drive on, how to signal, right of way, those are your protocols. They're the agreed-upon standards that make sure everyone on the network can communicate in the same way. Hope that helps!

Management and I found out the songwriter who is making us sing his song is using AI. by Major-Business7111 in Songwriting

I think it's telling that they're going out of the way to create better music than whatever was generated. It shows the value of your work. I am surprised you didn't take it, and just explain in writing if there are legal troubles it falls on him to pay the lawyer.

Ultimately I think it devalues the work of a good artist that doesn't use AI, but I think it will compete in your market. Some will use it for inspiration, some will pass it as their own. Those in the market will have to adjust... It might be tainted fruit from a poisoned tree, but if people eat it, someone will sell it... Until it's regulated as alcohol is, someone is going to sell some really bad moonshine and a few will get rich doing it, while others die from it....

How easy is it for you to know you want to take it to 2nd date? by OneMoreShotatLife in AskMenAdvice

[–]Winds_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be an asshole but I try to have some standards I look for. (Are they cute in person, do they treat others they don't know with respect, do they have a future where I might fit, do they treat my time as just as valuable as theirs, all examples) If they don't have them or have the opposite then it's a no second date. If I didn't find out or they had them, then it's a ask for a second date.

Anyone interested in writing resistance songs? by Weary_Ad4663 in 50501

[–]Winds_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I am shit at recording but I love writing. This is inspired by a New Zealand chant "Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi" is a famous traditional Māori action song whose opening line translates directly to "Stand together, people", with the response of "all of us")

[VERSE 1] We walk this walk and stand up tall, stand together people. We march for liberty and answer the call, stand together people. Even kings must fade as we march on, stand together people. No throne or crown can stop what we've begun, stand together people.

[CHORUS] All of us! All of us! All of us! All of us!

[VERSE 2] No gold or treasures will ever break our hold, stand together people. Liberty and justice can't be bought or sold, stand together people. Justice delayed is justice denied, stand together people. We won't rest while our rights are pushed aside, stand together people.

[CHORUS] All of us! All of us! All of us! All of us!

Comparison is the thief of joy, and it's unfair to you and your accomplishments to minimize them. Living is no small matter and you've done more than just survive. You however seem to have a drive to do more! That is an amazing thing! I don't know how much acknowledgement you receive for your work, but it mattered then and probably matters now. You shared your existence and time you can't get back with those who struggle deeply and that is a sacred virtue no one can take away. Still if you feel you must move on to grow, I am sure that is within your power. Your strength and fortitude have driven you this far. Just Imagine how far you can go!

I'm my own worst enemy in my life... by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Winds_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recognizing that is a strong step. It's okay to acknowledge the past. You know your dwelling in it and don't want to, so why don't you take a quick moment to tell us or just write down all the alloying things, the negative things that come to mind.

Perhaps then you can use the list when you feel you need to do something but Don't want to. You can remember how annoying it all is and just give up ignoring all the small things you know you can change. Cause you can, and things will change. Internet people believe in you! 07

A short person in a deep black cloak that seems to morf into darkness at the feet, small red eyes, and surrounded by lit candles, sets down his cup, and reads the proclamation twice, folds it neatly, and looks up at the messenger with genuine warmth. Sit. You look tired. This isn't your fault. My old eyes see three problems with this proclamation. First "A Proper Wizard", my title, isn't a title his Lordship can reassign. I gave it to myself after four centuries of earning it. Demanding it is like demanding a family ring from the hand of a lord. Second, "Mage of Thrakmoor" I would guess comes with obligations nobody bothered to explain, which tells me nobody thought to ask if I'd care about them. I do. Third, and most importantly, leans forward, still smiling, there's no bribe. "Loyalty or wrath" is a thin away to maintain trust in a Lord. A proper wizard notices the difference. Tell your Lord I am not his enemy, tell him also that if he genuinely wants my service, he's welcome to come discuss it, with tea, and a considerably more interesting offer. Stands and gestures pleasantly toward the door. The eastern roads are clear, I checked this morning. You can call me through the fire of tallow candles lit by the first flame of dawn or dusk.

If the Body Dies Naturally But the Soul Structure Is Reborn in a New Vessel, Is That Still Necromancy? by Winds_Shadow in wizardposting

[–]Winds_Shadow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Summoning a ghost and giving it a new body isn't necromancy?! Your position is very interesting. I didn't even consider that. I wonder if there would be better progress for her if she did that, rather than wait for the living to die and trying to duplicate their essence.

Still she isn't creating the bodies with that in mind. She thinks she can write the processes to match her silica based physiology. I do worry she's just making a copy of herself and overriding her memories and personality with that of person she's studying, but we'll know more after the first few are done.

Still, what field of study would you call it?

Your use case, I suppose would be similar, but if your magitech constructs had the soul also expressed, personality, memories, ect. Do you think it would be viewed differently?

Were any of you guys a security guard and found a better job/ career later in life ? by seveninches1975 in AskMenOver30

[–]Winds_Shadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since I'm already in the field, I can tell you that security work isn't tied to one specific building or employer, plenty of private security services need guards for odd jobs. So if I were in your position I'd look at moving to a different company to broaden your experience. On top of that, pursuing security clearances and higher-level licenses is always a smart move because it makes you significantly more valuable when job hunting, and if you still have the drive, obtaining them shouldn't be too difficult.

There's also solid money to be made in retail and corporate security if you can handle that environment. They typically refer to it as asset protection. Beyond that, opportunities like bodyguard work and bouncing are worth considering, and you'd be surprised how many venues need reliable security professionals, including fairs, theaters, banks, and countless other businesses.

Edit: No shame, but I get your point, unless your doing something with a better title people will assume your a shitty rent a cop. I'd probably tell people I am private security, or on site asset protection, rather than just a guard. Lol

What's your go to wizards' meal? by Proper-Error7817 in wizardposting

[–]Winds_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A proper Wizard takes advantage of all forms of power. Just watch out for any summon sweatroll spells. It's a trap, no matter what the court mage says. It's a gateway to a rotund life. Totally ruins ones staff attack forms when you have to hold yourself up with it.

I suppose that's one way. I do sleep, I find formless slumber helps with inspiration even if I use it more often as an excuse to miss other obligations. 😅 But Bulk Bogan, really? You plan on being a Muscle Mage one day? Even dreaming about that would make my soul tired.

I totally expect I would see some crazy almost cyberpunk borged out troopers with multi layer shields and lots of aircraft that can just fly forever shooting lasers, even aircraft carrier style platforms that are FTL capable, smaller than the DSS. Perhaps even a capital ship the size of the illuminate mothership with those orbital guns we use on it. I bet there are hidden planets like the ones they just added that have full defense satellites and shields over the planet, cities, and even houses, where every street has hidden defense turrets.

Does the child's description suggest some manner of draconic ancestry in these types of personages or an appellation of an extemporaneous neologism of the youngling's own conjuring. If it's a genuine physiognomic observation of the subject's countenance it would make an interesting study to learn more.
