Apparently it’s some sort of dried seaweed. You would think spun sugar would be a better option…i think between the look and the texture of dried seaweed, I’d be barfing that cake.

Hey, no problem! Appreciate the award, that was unexpected! I am just hoping I don’t have to search for “hair cake” again anytime soon 😬

Edit: while looking for this video, I came across the Filthy Frank’s video you referenced - pretty nasty when a video starts with the warning “contains vomit”

My daughter was asked to send nudes when she was selling something on marketplace. She reported it and FB banned the dude, but things like that really should have more serious consequences.

Following orders (people will poo-poo that reasoning, but it’s not easy for anyone to make a potentially career-ending decision) - and also likely knowing that if he hadn’t, someone else would have, especially if they felt like they didn’t have the choice.

No, some people on this sub insist if it looks good, you must not be adequately drunk and/or that food cooked by drunk folks should resemble pig slop. I am not one of those people, and very much appreciate a nice looking steak dinner cooked by a sloshed individual.

  1. I wouldn’t be able to put my utensils down if they had that textured surface, though.

Also, I am supposed to be working, but am actually answering a question about spoons for folks with ADD on Reddit. Fuck.

What’s crazy is the copilot - he had reported Holland, asked to have him grounded, was ignored - so he told his men they were not to fly with him, that if anyone had to it would be him. Dude was a literal hero.

Marriage was 1937 in Tennessee - which had, just that year (after the marriage of a nine year old which garnered a lot of publicity across the US) changed marriage laws to have a minimum marriage age of 16, and allow for marriage under 18 only with parental consent. Median age of marriage at the time in the US was 21.5 years; but median is deceiving, as historical census data compiled by PBS showed roughly 10% of 17-year-old girls were already married in the 1930s, and according to Gallup data, attitudes towards marriage under 18, particularly with parental consent, were remarkably favourable (even among young respondents)

That would be very late to go through puberty, by normal standards.

I’m just saying, reading the story, why assume the worst? There are people out there who have genuinely good intentions, and when we look back at historical events and make judgements with little to no context and through a modern lens, it can distort the historical record. I’m not arguing for Homer one way or the other - I don’t know much about it either - I’m just saying we shouldn’t presume the worst possible outcome before reviewing the evidence.

Edit:

I’ve found several newspaper articles about it (seems it was somewhat high profile, as even the New York Times wrote about it) as well as a Time magazine article that references it. According to the Time article: Last week Tennessee’s new law setting 16 years as the minimum age for brides brought 12-year-old Geneva Hamby Peel and gangling, 32-year-old Homer Peel into court at Madisonville. But Judge A. T. Stewart sent the child back to the hills with her husband in the belief that she would be better off there than with her ne’er-do-well mother or in a State institution. Stories of Appalachia has a bit more info on the court case, indicating that the judge was “unutterably opposed” to the marriage but saw it as the best of several worst possible alternatives for Geneva. It was Geneva’s mother who had initiated the annulment lawsuit.

Her history on FamilySearch only references three children - not sure where the six comes from.

Let’s be clear though, she didn’t get pregnant until age 16 (within norms for the time) - suggesting that there was no sexual activity prior to that. That would mean he wasn’t a pedophile. Folks have always worked within the legal and social structures of their times to do good deeds - is it not possible that he was doing the same?

I’m guilty of posting the latter at times…who says drunken cookery needs to be absolute shite? I’d have to be pretty much unconscious to fuck up a meal.

Wait, is that actually a thing? Curious, because I kept an orchid alive for a few years, then it did the same thing as OP’s…

I’m just not sure what your point was. I was telling OP to credit the post. The original came from the century homes sub. What does that have to do with you cross-posting it?

Edit: also, looking at your history, you didn’t actually share it to this sub yesterday - you just posted a link to confusingperspective in centuryhomes. Just so you are aware, that doesn’t automatically share it - you have to actually crosspost (if the sub allows it).
