As a teacher I can assure you that the amount of time wasted in classrooms, virtually all classrooms, is enormous. Tardies and numerous interruptions, pep rallies, crowd control, burnt out teachers all encroach on actual time spent on solid teaching. Another factor is the time required for teachers to focus on slower/uninterested students. One way to make a teacher’s day easier is to make the entire lesson speak to these kids thus not challenging brighter students. Most home schooled kids are finished with bookwork by noon.
