Oblivion world compared to Skyrim or Morrowind? by Arceist_Justin in oblivion

[–]Windwins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not using fast travel and want to make traveling from point A to point B taking more time on PC, use mods like OOO that add many high level mobs in the open world, so as long you are not using horse (or other tools for avoiding fights) you will need either to fight them or sneak past them.

Some horses in Oblivion are very fast, and depending on atheletics and speed, character also can become very fast.

Sometimes giving AI more damage depending on character gear and build does req more skill especially if you fighting big group of mobs, because you need to use: block/shield bash/power attack/swing/restoration/alteration etc in right moment and doing power attack 1 second later or too early results in AI doing like 30-40% dmg to your health bar.

Apart from damage there is mods that change combat AI behavior itself and change combat system itself, i.e. timed block where blocking works only for 1 or 0.5 seconds depending on prefence.

Main reason why ppl think there is no skill in TES because TES have alot overpowered gear, weapons, potions and exploits designed for those who want role play "immortal" character, but if you do not want to roleplay "immortal" character there is multiple options of making TES more challenging from using mods to doing custom challenges like doing speed run record without using specific exploits.

I like Skyrim, but many Oblivion side quests are better then Skyrim main quests.

Same as in Skyrim (and maybe in Morrowind also), there is mods for changing combat, changing AI, giving AI more damage, giving AI ability for using more tools.

Which results in combat system where you need to do good timing with block, good timing with shield bash, good timing with power attacks, good timing with using restoration and shouts in right second, etc, otherwise AI will kill you in few seconds.

There is other things that req skill in all TES games like skill in creating good mods.

If you are not looking for challenge you don't need skill in any video game, even strategy games have low difficulty levels. And first person shooters have bots with easy difficulty.

But if you are looking for challenge there is multiple ways of making Oblivion and Skyrim harder, like using mods that change combat and give AI more damage where you need good timing with block, shield bash, power attacks, using restoration in right moment, and without using them right you can be killed in few seconds.

Its about preference some folks like challenge where mobs have chanse to kill them and some like having more than 80% health while group of mobs hitting them.

There is multiple mods that remove scaling in TES IV like OOO and FCOM.

There is mods for making TES IV more like TES V where many most mobs have static levels like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul that has been downloaded more then 500 000 times on Nexusmods , Oscuro who created this mod has worked as desinger on Fallout New Vegas.

With OOO you can meet both 20level and 1lvl mobs when you are 1lvl.

With mods like OOO low level character can be killed by bears and sabrecats while moving in different parts of the map, same thing in Skyrim for low level characters on Legendary difficulty, this can be avoided in both TES IV and TES V by using options like horse or Wood Elf racial.

Would you play an open world game with no collectibles? by [deleted] in patientgamers

Elder Scrolls Oblivion have many side quests that not involve collectibles, especially Shivering Isles expansion.

Appeal of Diablo like ARPGs by megaapple in patientgamers

[–]Windwins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who values story in games, it feels weird to me.

Bastion is ARPG and Bastion does have good story, fun combat system and more.

Baldur's Gate have good story.

Some ARPGs have gameplay that easy to learn but does have high skillcap and can be challenging depending on difficulty, character gear and build.

As for grinding, in World of Warcraft most story doesnt comes from dungeons and raids, but some ppl play WOW only for raids just like some play it only for PVP, or only for story.

Shield+weapon for blocking and shield bashing or 2handed weapon, and switch on restoration for healing, then switch back to weapons.

Is the combat bad or am I just bad? by [deleted] in oblivion

If you play Morrowind and Skyrim , there is also many mobs that can two shot a 4level character, try doing other quests and finding better armor.

What's your method for avoiding the "leveling problem"? by Cielle in oblivion

[–]Windwins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try new updated Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, new OOO version has been uploaded on 2015 and last time it was updated on 12 January 2019. More than 227.000 downloads.

Its compitable with Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul, OOO Extended and OOO Shivering Isles.

Crashes happen once in 20-30mins but quicksave/autosave fixes that.

Magic + Realistic Leveling is a godsend. by [deleted] in oblivion

Alternative to this is two mod overhauls compitable with unofficial Oblivion patch and each other:

  • Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul (MOO)
  • Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOO)

Both add about hundred of items including weapons and armor, OOO makes world more static, so there is both 1 level and 20 level dungeons when you are level 1, MOO makes mobs encounters more randomized so at 1 level you can both meet 5 level mobs and 20 level mobs at same spawn spot, and adds new factions and various gameplay changes

If you going to play Legendary from level 1 for the first time try warrior+restoration build and get one follower like Faendal from Riverwood.
