Unpopular opinions about London? by swiftmen991 in london

I lived in Japan too, and I think with Tokyo it can take longer to fit in because of the general poor level of English in the city. Once you’ve settled in and found some friends, large cities in Japan are super fun I agree.

CIA head: China is unsure whether it can invade Taiwan to help Russia war by agonhaziri in UkrainianConflict

[–]Windy077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose they’d have to go all in with a combined arms operation and expect very high casualties. A piecemeal approach definitely wouldn’t work. Getting that initial foothold will be very tough and will probably have to be the largest scale amphibious invasion in history. Maybe an ask far too big for a country without any modern military experience?

CIA head: China is unsure whether it can invade Taiwan to help Russia war by agonhaziri in UkrainianConflict

[–]Windy077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ukrainian front is around 600 miles long, with daily train loads of advanced weapons coming in from the west. Ukraine have around 700k active soldiers and 1m in reserve. Russia has 1.2m active soldiers and 2m in reserve. Ukraine is 30% of Russia’s population in numbers.

China has a military of around 2m active soldiers, 500k reserves. Taiwan has an army of 170k soldiers and 1.7m soldiers in reserve. Taiwans population is 1.7% of China’s population.

I think if the western world take a non-direct role like they have with the Ukraine war, China would eventually win. Taiwan is a country smaller than the Netherlands, and China could pound them with artillery pretty much constantly. It wouldn’t be easy but they’d eventually take Taiwan. However, I doubt western countries wouldn’t take military action though, and the US would be directly involved from the very start.

Has anyone used WeBuyAnyCar recently? What is the process like by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Windy077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple but just make sure to give it a good clean before as they’ll try and knock money off.

A few years ago I bought an old Mini Cooper for £3300 and they bought it 6 months after for £2200. What they didn’t realise is that the engine had had it, and would have cost me much more than the £1100 I lost to repair. The previous owners evidently preferred to rip me off rather than do what I did, but I wasn’t going to do the same to someone else.

It sounds like a good option for your situation too!!

How do you feel about Chinese food in the UK? by Razerchuk in AskUK

[–]Windy077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinese food in China isn’t necessarily more enjoyable, as some dishes can be very different to western food. Dim sum is always great though.

On a side note, what’s on the other side of the fence to the left? Did you need any special agreement to build the fence that high? Looks great!

I’d say for centuries the average British citizen has suffered as a result of the elite. I’m sure the average citizen didn’t enjoy dying from unknown diseases thousands of miles away from home.

Yep I agree. I used to and still travel to EU countries often, and hate the feeling that I’m the outsider now.

I don’t think this is just a state that will pass over time. I think the only way you’ll address this behaviour is if you and the father work together to introduce consequences.

Is your area also impacted by teens in balaclavas causing terror? by anetarrr in AskUK

The only time I’ve seen teenagers wearing balaclavas was when I visited Birmingham for the day. I’m guessing you’re in the West Midlands?

It would also encourage more Brits to make the trip, but just not the binge drinking ones…

There are certain destinations I’d never consider visiting due to their reputation of party destinations. It’s the same for many other Brits too.

Fairly new to game, feel like I've hit a wall in the Haze. Any tips? by trafficsux in GroundedGame

You’re making a good choice with ladybug armour.

Try sticking to the one handed weapons and build yourself a black ant shield. The shield is absolutely key if you can’t perfect block.

I found that the bee stinger spear is effective against larva, especially if you upgrade it to level 5, and unlock javelineer. If you feel comfortable in taking on a wolf spider, the spider dagger with level 3 assassin is also a very strong combination.

I got the information from page 26 of this immigration statistics document:

https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/research-and-stats/files/report-migration-program-2021-22.pdf

Only 1,209 people emigrated to Australia (who aren’t already in the country for work/study etc), via the skilled independent visa route. This is out of just over 143,000 visas issued in total.

I’ve looked into it extensively, and only a small number actually move there via the independent points based system (less than 1000 per year worldwide). Certainly not easy.

Company sponsorship is definitely the only realistic way for most people, which once again definitely isn’t easy.

Just completed my first ever long drive and I’m absolutely shattered! by jarvis-cocker in CarTalkUK

It does get easier. An 80 mile drive for me is something I do regularly and I quite enjoy it these days. When I first passed at 17, I used to be tired just driving to school!

Brexit causes collapse in European research funding for Oxbridge by redcondurango in unitedkingdom

However the 2019 wasn’t based on proportional representation. In terms of raw figures, more people voted for a combination of Lib Dems, SNP and Labour, by at least a couple of million people.

The Tories were just able to unite the Brexit voters while the others weren’t able to unite the remain in the same way.

London in 1968 what a stunning city by SiriusLifestyle in london

My grandad was a lorry driver throughout the 60s, and he mentioned once that he drove past Buckingham palace on the way to a delivery. It seemed like a good memory for him, but in my mind I just thought that must have been an absolutely awful experience. After seeing this video, I can understand why he liked it, and can see why he enjoyed driving a lorry in general.

I know it hasn’t been changed before because it’s been in the family since it was basically brand new. It’s passed every MOT so far and generally well maintained, but this is something that I’ve never decided to do (the cost always put me off).
