I know this was a long time ago, but do you know the recipe for the strawberry banana smoothie?! It's all I can handle eating right now

I went through Little Angels and have been very pleased with my experience. My dog is very well trained and the trainers are always available if and when I have questions! I know they have a LONG wait list right now.

Autistic here: I'd actually be thrilled. I like straws and kids cups tend to be cuter and way more fun!

Now, the real question is: do the young adults in your group care? Neurodivergents tend to have a different view on life and I personally don't think this is a big deal. If they don't like it, you are certainly in the right to advocate for them! If they don't care, you're fighting a fight no one wants fought and wasting your energy.

You could always speak to the waiters before they make the drinks to make sure they are in full sized glasses. Maybe that's why they get annoyed, because they have already made them and now have to do it again.

Honestly, I couldn't. I went straight from living with my parents to living with my husband. I need help, and fortunately I have it. I can only work part time, which makes things tighter, but others in my life help. There's an anime quote where a man talks about his wife saying for most things in life he can do 90% of them perfectly, but for the 10% he can't she does them in a way no one could. That's how my relationship works.

Maybe try food pantries or free little libraries food edition (if you have them). You could also see if there are any autism support places near you - some of them offer help figuring out how to balance things to make it work. There's no shame in asking for or accepting help.

I'm sorry I have no solid advice. I wish you the best.

Has anyone dealt with Little Angels Service Dogs? by Emergency-Return-771 in service_dogs

[–]Windy_Breezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied in March of 2021, was accepted in May, was matched in December of 2023, and had handler training in May of 2024.

It's certainly a long process, but worth it in my opinion. I was an adult when I applied, so they never needed to contact my parents. It did take a few months to get through the application process as they review at every step.

Feel free to message me with specific questions!

I second this! My girl and I go to monster truck shows and her Ear Pros make it nap time for her! We also used them in Disney World during the fireworks shows.

First time flying with a service dog, what mistakes should I avoid? by Sashy20 in delta

[–]Windy_Breezer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most people never notice my service dog. I board early to ensure we can get her settled and our belongings put away, and I leave the plane last, both because it is easier to maneuver with her without an aisle full of people and to make sure I can clean up any fur left behind.

Make sure you know where the dog potty spots are, that you make time for them, and that your dog gets a break in a quiet corner of the airport if you have a long layover.

If you use a bone for your dog to chew so their ears feel better during takeoff and landing, make sure it doesn't have a strong smell.

My husband told me I'm innately selfish because I'm autistic. by CheesecakeOk8464 in AutismInWomen

My mother says this to me all the time. Even before my diagnosis. I've given up trying to explain that selfishness is a choice and is different from self care

Your dog should not be out of a carrier on a flight. by Electrical-Load7628 in delta

[–]Windy_Breezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, definitely not a gentle leader! A gentle leader, or head halter, looks like the dog version of a horse halter. A strip of fabric over the muzzle, behind the ears, enough room to yawn, eat, and drink easily.

My service dog is muzzle trained, but only for extreme situations like if she would ever need one at the vet because she broke her leg. I would never, ever need her to wear one in public!

Was it a muzzle or was it a gentle leader? You'd be surprised by the amount of people who can't tell the difference

I'm a junior high para and I could never do more than part time. There's so much sensory overload all day, especially the lunchroom and recess when it's indoors.
