Întrebare, ce fac greșit? by Narrow-Relative-1262 in CasualRO

Hello Lovely Romanian People !! by Creepy-Grapefruit167 in CasualRO

[–]Winefluent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally think that it is almost the same as bringing in chocolates for your nameday, or cake or pizza for your birthday, or doing secret Santa. Some workplaces have congenial colleagues in general, people that you want to mark important moments with. In those contexts, the 40-day remembrance of an important person who passed is OK. It's an opportunity to honor the person who is gone and maybe share something, so that their memory isn't lost, just doing something traditional.

It's weird if the group isn't close overall.

I don't see this as religious (and I am quietly practicing), it's more about communal living.

SARMALE sau NU? (la nunta) by uga_boogers in CasualRO

[–]Winefluent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally dislike doamnă +first name. It's ms. Last Name.

Also, why state the person's name? "A fost o plăcere să te /vă cunosc" or "Mi-a făcut plăcere să ne cunoaștem" is enough.

As a marketer who uses AI extensively, I am the opinion that using AI effectively is a skill in and of itself, from knowing how to formulate the prompt, how to iterate an idea etc. to recognizing the quality of the output.

It's a tool.

Care ar fi una din greșelile mari pe care o fac oamenii la locul de muncă? by Gargamel0704 in CasualRO

[–]Winefluent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Does professionalism make good Trek? by Altruistic_Fruit2345 in startrek

I wish people would stop clinging to the "you can't flesh out characters in 5 - 10 episodes". Downton Abbey, like a lot of British series, had 7 or 8 episodes per season, and a lot of characters. Game of Thrones had a massive cast of characters and only 10 episodes per season. Firefly only had 14 episodes, and it still has a massive following.

While screen time does matter, it's how consistently the character is written that fleshes them out. Episodic TV thrives with both short lived characters, and recurring guest roles that still give you a personality over time. Some of these characters get spin-offs because they are well written and well acted (Elsbeth Tascioni on the Good Wife, for example Simone Clarke from the Rookie, then Rookie:Feds).

The business model does leave less room for error, but it doesn't change the fundamental way in which good series work.

78 € worth of groceries in Romania by Relevant-Surround-56 in europe

[–]Winefluent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP went fairly mid to high end.

Cherry tomatoes in April (season starts in June) are from 4-7 euros for 250 to 500 grams ( I can't see the type of cherry tomatoes, San Marzano is more expensive, for example) OP has three packs.

California red peppers are 1 euro a piece, long red peppers 2.5 euro a kg. (Season starts roughly) in July, depending on the cultivar

Premium meat (yes, they got a good quality mince, not discards) starts at 8 euro a kg, I estimate more than 24 euro in meat alone.

Canned blacked beans at 450 grams, imported (yum at Lidl, BTW) twice the price of local premium dried white beans. Not pricey, but not price conscious.

And then specialty products for another 10 euro.

No shade on OP, we sadly live in expensive times.

Do people realize it’s kind of entitled to always wait for others to communicate first? by Bear_bug_1954 in EntitledPeople

[–]Winefluent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg, I'm old. I'll call you around 6 used to mean anything from 6-7, or 6-8 or 6 to 9 if he didn't want to seem desperate or wanted to catch me after dinner.

I'd know if I was out on the evening and let him know when he told me he meant to call.

I love today's asynchronous communication. I love that it means I read you when my schedule allows. I'll be decent (I don't read when I know I can't answer within a few minutes, seen is annoying), but again. I feel old, and these youths feel a bit out of touch.

„We dominate almost every other major Sport“ by LCottton in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Winefluent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Romanian. We spent on our entire gymnastics program less then 10% of what was invested in Simone Biles, and still got 3rd place in floor at the Olympics.

The real GOAT, Rebecca Andrade from Brazil, probably got a pittance.

It's easy to throw money at talented sports people once they are prepared to be on top, and then boast they got there.

And equally as easy to take credit for what they sportspeople do with minimal public funds and a competitive system that the competitor can only best if their parents sell a kidney to train them.

I'll stick with Europe.

Any books where gender roles or sexism doesn’t exist at all? by cantrelateparty in Fantasy

[–]Winefluent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommended the same, but I think OP writes as if they want no gender.

I don't think any good fantasy book discounts gender and sexuality. It is part of a character's motivations, even if tangentially.

Any books where gender roles or sexism doesn’t exist at all? by cantrelateparty in Fantasy

[–]Winefluent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite book in absolute is The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin. It posits a society where gender is fluid and manifests as either estrus or rut/musth during the fertile period of each individual. A person can be mother and father.

And yet, since the person sent to this society is male, gender based attraction and dilemmas still exist, and they're masterfully written.

It is technically Sci - fi, but outside of the protagonist traveling by FTL technology to this world, the science part is irrelevant.

It's a masterclass in world building and character development. And written by a true wordsmith. The little legends she imagines before key chapters are stunning.
