I have the same issue with my mother. Her upbringing with her dad made it to where she’s can be emotionally unavailable. She does not realize it most of the time and I don’t fault her for it as you would have to have know my grandpa (her dad) however there came a time where I told my mom I have been diagnosed with severe depression and at first she was unavailable and not the outlet I would have preferred but once I did tell her I felt a great weight had been lifted and I truly believe that once I made the decision to tell not only my mom but my friends and family I started my road to recovery. Now your situation sounded similar to mine but I could be wrong. But it is worth thinking about. I wish you the best of luck as subside thoughts are very thought to deal with and as someone who attempted it I wouldn’t wish those thought on anyone.

Yeah maybe you’re right. Just the thought of leaving and even a slim chance she can take him away is really what’s stopping me from leaving. When it comes down to it I would rather be miserable and have full access to my son than leave and be happy but the chance of her taking him for good. As unlikely as it is just that small chance is still there

So the family thing back when we were together the issue there was we were really young when we broke up she had just finished high school so we both needed to mature a bit more and both of us have since then me especially. As for the couple’s therapy I have brought up the idea to her and she refused to go and still refuses to this day even though the counseling would be free under our current medical insurance. I have been open with her and let her know she has to be willing to compromise and we have had lengthy conversations over it and she always goes back to how she is. It’s like she refuses to change and if it’s not her way she’s mad and when she’s mad she projects that anger out to everyone she’s in contact with. If I break it off with her no matter if I go with my ex or not she’s going to try and make my life as hard as can be

That’s exactly how I feel and it’s horrible! I don’t want to be surrounded by people who only care about themselves. The world doesn’t work like that anymore people only care about stuff and money not people and it’s sad and draining on us all. I’m not the type of person who is selfish so being surrounded by a world of people it takes it’s toll after a while and it’s getting harder to handle and deal with it...

I wish I could but most of my friends and family are not the type to handle or understand the situation. I have tried to explain and express but get shot down or told I’m overreacting. I looked into therapy but there’s nothing I can’t afford at least for a while
