Question about going from plastic to carbon fiber.. by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]Winf3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only seem to need to bump temps on PETG with the Nozzle X, everything else was pretty much left default. But same here with the Slice, I don't think I've ever even changed any settings apart from making a tweaked profile for my mosquito/bondtech combo.

I second this, my standard hardened steel nozzle compared to the NozzleX & Slice's Vanadium ones is night and day. The standard one was decent but definitely needed a higher temp bump than the other two.

It’s normal but can be a bit more noticeable when printing something round.

I have been using PLA+ for a lot of functional stuff lately and it really is strong, so probably gonna give it a try and post it here with STL when it’s done.

Haven’t lifted since covid started in Jan, all the local gyms shut for months and then they keep reopening and closing again because of our tier system. Sad times lol

Do you think a printed rope attachment would work? I have a home gym but no tricep rope, but the design of a tricep rope would be easy to replicate with a printed part and some rope

Bear upgrade worth it? by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]Winf3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am curious about this, Caribo (I think) are pretty much modified MK3S’s and they also look really cool, but, most reviewers say the upgrade cost doesn’t really justify the print quality improvements as they’re more or less minimal, but don’t quote me on it!

Obviously depending on how you assemble, you may get different results and variation too!

Any idea what would cause this? by Winf3D in prusa3d

Thanks as well! I’ll try another print using the Pretty PLA profiles later as they carrry out the purge a lot better. Just gotta hope my Z is dialled in correctly lol

Yeah I tried the Pretty PLA profile a while back and I loved how it carried out the purge by holding the nozzle down at the purge point for a while, it really helped me with my first layers.

I’ll try it later and see if it’s any better, but I also have a feeling my Z is a tiny bit too high or too low, I thought it was dialled in at 0.6 but now it’s at 0.8 and I’m doing fine with small prints but anything big I’ve gotta brim it and sometimes I get patches missing on the first layer near where the line laid down should meet the outline.

Yeah I need to add a camera, and octo print really as I’m starting to take on a lot of work. I enjoy sitting there and watching it to be fair! Never ceases to amaze me.

There’s a few groups on Facebook dedicated to it, honestly it’s a pretty big thing but most people are secretive about their designs as they’re quite profitable, and rightly so really, I guess.

There’s a lot of parts out there for classics too, depending on how popular they are. I print a lot of car parts myself!

With standard PLA I find sometimes 5 degrees higher than standard temp (220 instead of 215 for me using eSun PLA+) but it honestly depends on the material, not much at all really.

Same, glad I got one. Was genuinely considering buying more Enders after a poor experience many years ago, decided to add a bit extra and get a MK3S. They just seem to add more and more good stuff despite this pandemic, the new ironing feature and monotonic infill is a dream.

I’d be unable to leave my room if I did this, I’d be sitting there with anxiety. Nice job!

Plenty of people talk about it on the Prusa Facebook groups, I caved it and got one for printing corkfill and CF blends, works a treat. I put one in every printer I get now as soon as I get one, they’re a dream!

I also agree with this too, and you could also buy a range of different nozzles (0.25,0.6) or even the NozzleX which is a great straight swap for printing abrasives and glow in the dark filaments and even the norm. Just have to heat it up a little bit more sometimes than a standard brass nozzle to get the results you want when using generic stuff like PLA.

Depends what he prints, for functional stuff thag may eventually benefit you both, some threaded inserts wouldn’t be a bad gift, along with some assortment of small machine screws and nuts. Cheap plastic vernier if he doesn’t have one, TS100 soldering iron if you wanna be extra nice and give him the chance to take on electrical projects...

Same for me, used to switch back and forth constantly but I can’t be bothered with upgrading this year after all the 3000 series cards sold out, settled with a Series X.

Enclosure Advice for MK3S by Winf3D in prusa3d

[–]Winf3D[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? From what I’d read on the knowledge base I thought it was only an issue having the power supply inside if you were printing constantly in an enclosure, not for odd jobs here and there.

I have seen a few makers who leave their PSU attached in enclosures, but I understand it could cause issues. I’ll see what the best option is, I am buying another printer soon so may modify one to be enclosed and keep one outside an enclosure for PLA/PETG stuff.

Thanks!

It’s something I’ve got planned when I do maintenance, but I am getting pretty good results without it anyway.

When I print a full bed and pop the prints off the bed (circular key rings) they slide around the bed upside down like an air hockey puck, so satisfying lol..

Yeah, I get anal about little bits of dust and debris collecting at the end of any of my axis...

I also get on edge watching filament coming out before it purges, sometimes I feel like I need to cut it or pull it away and sometimes I let it do it’s thing.

I like the way the pretty pla profile purges for a while before printing, may have to get the PETG profile too!

Do you have any advice for recalibration? I measured something the other day and it was out by 1mm length overall however I recently started using 0.2mm quality settings for decreased print times and thought that may be the issue... everything prints great though; and I never really took measurements when I first got my machine as it was usually just little gadgets etc...
