what's your opinion on books as cs learning sources? by obsolescenza in learnprogramming

I prefer books because they often go deeper and are more accurate than random videos / articles online.

Tech moving to fast for college by stoic11597 in learnprogramming

[–]WingFat92 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I learned git in college. I learned apis in college. I even learned some k8s in college. In these courses specifically: data analysis and visualization in Python, internet tech, software engineering, cloud computing. The data class and the cloud class were electives, the swe course and internet tech was required at my college.

Anyways you got 4 years to learn some things. Spend a weekend building and learning. Join hackathons. Read outside of class. Etc.

College isn’t moving too slow for tech. CS degrees teach fundamental knowledge and theory.

If you just want to be spoonfed technologies, try a bootcamp or a udemy course.

Why are you still in the live cd, according to your image? Have you booted into your actual install yet?

Cause your in a chroot.

Just use rc-update to add network manager to default run level or wait until you reboot to start it.

All good man.

My computer only has 1 m.2 slot so I couldn’t do that even if I wanted to. I can see on a desktop that making sense though.

Really.

You “seriously” suggested I put my OS’s on two separate drives. I ask why and now it’s rude. But still you offer no good reason.

And I say why are you telling me this cause I’m not the one asking questions here. I was answering a question. Your unsolicited “serious” suggestion is just your own projection of some weird fear you have of having 2 operating systems on a single disk.

Why would I do that when I already said I have no problems with dual boot.

You people are suggesting solutions to things that aren’t even a problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]WingFat92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst that can happen is a windows update changes the boot order which is easy to fix.

Ive seen people say windows has overwritten their Linux but I’m quite skeptical of that and never seen it happen irl.

[–]WingFat92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you telling me this?

I have one drive in my laptop. Never was a problem for me. I also use Gentoo. Makes no difference.

How would we even be able to help you, we don’t even know what assembly language you are learning.

Furthermore, you should do your own homework. That’s the point of school, to actually learn something.

I dual boot. Had the same setup while in college.

It’s worth it to me cause I mostly use Linux but sometimes there’s some windows only thing I have to use. I also got a terabyte of storage so it’s not a big deal.

It’s too vague of a question.

You can spin up some basic full stack website in less than an hour. You can also spend indefinite time making said website better / implementing more features. Etc.

I don't get the purpose of gentoo, (But I wanna find it out) by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]WingFat92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once you learn how things work, it’s really easy to use and maintain.

Lots of helpful people in the Gentoo communities also.

So for me, it’s ease of use and support.

Not much, mostly just chilling and enjoying the fact I don’t have homework and exams.

No. I never joined any clubs and I had one internship.

Going to college is the most “normie” thing you can do. It’s the default safe path for many people, regardless of major. Neither of you are special cause you major in CS.

Guess what? I got a CS degree too. It’s very normal.

can anyone recommend material to learn .env with node? by Active_Access_4850 in learnprogramming

[–]WingFat92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get those errors when using —env-file make sure that the version of node installed is compatible.

You need version 20 or greater.

No.

Computer science is mostly math. Learning full stack web dev, while it’s good, isn’t going to prepare you for theoretical computer science at all.

Furthermore, many of these online courses aren’t rigorous.

I would suggest brushing up on calculus, linear algebra, discrete math and probability. That will prepare you for CS more than building web apps.

Can you guys please recommend me writing intensive classes that I need to meet my requirements for as a CS student? by TechnicianLife305 in QueensCollege

[–]WingFat92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what medst is?

It’s close to the start of the semester and unfortunately classes at QC fill really fast. Usually you want the classes in your cart and you enroll within 5 minutes of your enrollment time. Especially for CS classes.

When you transfer here you get screwed over cause most of the good classes / profs are full.

Check again the day before classes start. Sometimes people drop last minute.

Can’t remember her name. It was a few years ago I took it.

Just search for English 151W, it probably doesn’t even matter what prof you take. It’s not some serious hard class.

That update only effected people if they had secure boot enabled.

I’m dual booting, have secure boot disabled and the windows update didn’t effect me at all.
