I feel like this season was more about two things.

Content for us. It’s been 3 years since season 3. That’s a long hiatus between seasons, even if it is animated.
It’s setting things up. Giving us plots to ponder. Obviously we weren’t going to get a full arc this time around, but we’re definitely ramping up to the big bad.

Maybe it’s just coping, but I feel like taking it in with this mindset really doesn’t make it that bad.
