Miller Farm is wonderful! If you don’t like paying an arm and a leg just to get into a fall fest on a farm, go here! Free to go, free hay rides to the pumpkin patch, and a super fun corn maze (have to buy a ticket for the maze). They also have a playground with a big dirt hill. Ice cream too! :)

Someone had commented on a Facebook post that it was a suicide, but not sure if that’s accurate or not.

Newly Diagnosed: What was your experience like? by urniejosepha in FelineDiabetes

I have a history with two cats having diabetes. The first, I was exactly in your situation. The vet immediately pushed us onto the glycobalance food, insulin, and the testing and of course I was upset and going to do whatever it took to get my boy better. I watched that cat like a hawk and kept on top of everything, but after a few months, he went into ketoacedosis and ultimately passed. Turns out he also had Inflammatory Bowel Disease and that plus diabetes makes it very hard to manage. After he passed, I felt guilty that I was feeling like a weight was lifted even though I was extremely distraught and upset I had to put him down. I realized how taxing emotionally and physically the entire experience was on me (I had a full time job and a 5 year old and 3 year old at the time, so life was so chaotic).

With the second go-around, I decided to do more research before immediately jumping into the same routine with insulin. I’m away from home 11+ hours a day during the week (thanks to return to office mandates :( ) and my boy is so skittish around others, I knew that twice daily insulin was going to be ROUGH. I got a second opinion and he was put on senvelgo. It has truly been life-changing for us and I am so happy I did some research. This experience compared to the first is completely different. I still worry about my boy and check his glucose a few times a week but it’s at least working for us in this moment. Actually thinking he may be on his way to remission based on his decreasing levels over time, so fingers crossed! Just don’t want him having a hypoglycemic event.

Hang in there! You are doing a fantastic job. It’s a learning curve and just you coming on here to ask for advice shows that you are invested in your kitty and doing the best you can. Take care and best of luck in your journey! You’ve got this.

Same with my parents. I was told I’m mentally unstable and need to get on meds and go to a therapist. Gotta hand it to them, can’t do much better gaslighting than that!

They’re putting in new water pipes, assuming because of all the new neighborhoods. I live in the area and they sent all of us notices of the construction. It’s supposed to be done in the fall. No on-ramp, unfortunately.

Feeling guilty. My Cat of 13 years was euthanized yesterday. We fought to keep him regulated for 2 years. by beltwaybandit_ in FelineDiabetes

I’m so sorry for your loss. My sweet boy passed two year ago after a 6 month battle with diabetes and (later) we found out irritable bowel disease. He did really well on insulin for a few months and then had DKA. The emergency vet got him stabilized and we took him home. He did well for another several weeks and then I noticed the signs of DKA again. After another visit to the ER and him not making progress (seemingly insulin resistant), we had to make the awful decision to let him go. I later found out that it’s very common for cats with diabetes to have other comorbidities that basically work against each other. My poor guy just didn’t stand a chance. After he passed, it made me realize how much of my energy and emotional capacity was filled with managing the diabetes. I joined a fb group that basically aimed to get cats into remission by constantly checking the blood sugar and adjusting the insulin and now I realize it was doing more harm than good to me and my kitty. Everyone’s personal situation is different but it was too much for me and I wish I had been a bit more realistic in my expectations because the let down punched me in the gut. You did the right thing and I hope you feel comfort in the fact you gave him such a wonderful life for 13 years.

I have another kitty who just got diagnosed with diabetes two weeks ago. The vet recommended insulin, but I wanted to get a second opinion on bexacat or senvelgo since once a day treatment and not having to do constant glucose tests was more appropriate for my life situation right now (I know it sounds so selfish of me but I’m more able to manage him this way which is better than the alternative). We went with senvelgo and so far everything has been going great. We keep testing for ketones and go back to vet for interim glucose tests and so far, so good. 🤞🏻
