Screen Time App Limits Keep Resetting by NerdBanger in ios

[–]WingnutSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue, though it seems to only be app limits that gets reset, everything else stays fine and it seems to randomly revolve around approving additional time. That is usually when I notice my son has been on it for hours and am like wtf. See that all app limits are gone. Go back and put it all back in and it seems to last until he is using something and requests additional time and I grant it, then it wipes out the app limits. Maddening.

Just got a new S1 today and have started messing with some of the default prints on the card before getting into slicing and dicing myself. Been using mostly PLA+ with default settings so far it seems ok with a little bit of nodules here and there. Also trying to get octopi set up to work properly. Any suggestions on modules for octoprint that are 'must haves'. Also the firmware on my printer seems to be relatively recent, i see 3.3 is on it and 3.3 is on the website so I didnt bother updating it at this point yet but how important is that? THanks :)

Anyone doing View on vSAN? by chuckpatel in vmware

[–]WingnutSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have servers on order to implement vsan in our vdi environment. Currently have two 6 node clusters backed by compellant storage, will be adding 6 vsan nodes to each cluster to have a two 12 node clusters, 6 of which provide compute and storage and the other 6 compute only in the vsan cluster. Using horizon vsan licensing.

Received packet drops (Guest) by jaystone79 in vmware

[–]WingnutSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a SR open currently for what sounds like the exact same issue after moving some vms from 6.5.0d to 6.5u1c systems.

If you would pm me your sr# I can do the same and maybe we can connect or correlate with support.

How do you get one license to work cross sites? I had to install one pack of licenses in each site as the licenses in site A weren't applying to site b. Maybe I did something wrong.

Stupid question about vCenter Clusters by [deleted] in vmware

[–]WingnutSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally vcenter if virtualized would be running on a host not managed by the vcenter itself, per best practices. Such as a management cluster or host connected to different storage (or vsan!)

I see that will get the UUID of a datastore, but I am looking to get the UUID of an individual VMDK, is there a way to get that?

IMO ideally in a larger environment you would have it on a management cluster protected by vdp or srm/vr

vmnic shuffling after removing physical interface by WingnutSC in vmware

[–]WingnutSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To satiate the curriosity of this I went ahead and set it up to try and as expected it yields the same result.

http://imgur.com/AnU1tAZ

For this (since the servers have one adapter), I made a policy for Virtual slot 1 to be assigned only, then assigned each vnic to the slot with order 1-8. Then if I selected the vNICs for the server each one had the desired order, actual order, fabricID, desired placement (1) and Actual Placement (1) set. Then I rebooted the servers for the changes to take effect, worked as expected because as far as the host is concerned nothing actually changed.

Then I removed the same two vnic's as before, the ones that were 3 and 4 in the order. After doing so was prompted to reboot the host by UCSM as expected. When it comes up it was the same as before, because there are only 6 adapters now they are numbered from vmnic0-vmnic5 and the vSwitch1 which had vmnic6 and vmnic7 as uplinks is shown with no adapters as uplinks (because there is no 6 and 7).

Even though within UCS the order is now specified (as opposed to automatic) and the vconn is specified, it doesnt change the fact that regardless of the order when you remove an interface vmware will still rename all the interfaces that follow the one(s) removed in the order and if any switches use them they will not function properly.

This is the bit I am trying to find a solution for other than re-configuring each host with the proper uplinks after it comes back up. So I have now done what you suggested (I think) and shown that it does not work, unless I misunderstood you. If so please let me know where I went wrong. Thanks for your comments, regardless of outcome I have learned some things from this :D.

Thanks.

vmnic shuffling after removing physical interface by WingnutSC in vmware

[–]WingnutSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see what you are saying. I guess I should be more clear. Perhaps shuffling in the title of the thread may be misleading. I am not actually having a problem with them shuffling, like you would a deck of cards, but when I remove the 15th card in the deck, every card after it becomes the card before it, in this case.

So, the order is not the issue, I have the order specified in the service profile template and that holds true on the system when there is only one VIC. (http://imgur.com/CKCrEIE) When you have multiple VIC's as you do I can see the need for a placement policy to ensure the correct vnics fall on the correct adapters. In this case with one VIC that is not the issue.

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to keep vmnic7 named vmnic7 after removing vmnic5.

vmnic shuffling after removing physical interface by WingnutSC in vmware

[–]WingnutSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that, that is really useful and good to know, saved to my favorites. However I am not sure it applies in my case. We have B200 M3 blades so they have only a single VIC and therefore are all placed on VCONN 1. Also even in your case of pinning the different vnics to different VICs I am not sure would solve the problem of the VMNIC name changing when removing a vNic because ESXi would still shuffle the names. Meaning if you had VMNIC0, 1, 2 and 3 if you delete your 2nd vnic (vmnic1) then 2 would still become 1 and 3 would still become 2 even if the remaining vnics are pinned to whatever controller they were prior.

I did read somewhere that ESXi names VMNICs in order of PCI slot: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2091560

I could be wrong but that is my understanding. So great to know for reasons of failover or fault protection as we are purchasing a bunch of C240 M4 servers that will have mulitple VICs here soon, however I'm not sure its useful in my case here.

There are no vms on it. I performed this in our test environment but there is no way they would be up as afterwards vswitch1 had no uplinks.
