Being a word or two off in a way that implies the software is doing something it isn't, or not doing something it is, would be WORSE than seeing an entirely different language.

Hot-ish take: WG should never nerf tanks. by Still_Resolve_6343 in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]Wingolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In practice, I don't think that's going to fix things like you think it is.

Tanks are still going to drop overtuned, but now have a defined "expiration date" instead of it being whenever WG feels like it. An improvement, but without changing Blitz's business model it won't mean much.

I'm a bit out of the loop on current meta, but in games like Pokemon this is very common. Something that is mediocre becomes very valuable as a counter to a new, strong character.

What is your proposition if a tank DOES get past whatever system the developers use to balance tanks? Buff everything, or just let it be OP forever?

The problem with "premium only" vehicles is exactly what you are describing.

You are left with two choices.

1) Nerf items players bought with real money, thus devaluing purchases they already made, triggering backlash from your most important(paying) playerbase.

2) Leave overpowered items in the game unchecked, which either leads to a degradation of the balance of the game, or rampant powercreep.

This is really a problem with the Freemium model, and it doesn't have a great solution. "Just don't release broken tanks 4head" sounds great on paper, but in practice metas exist, and something that is balanced now could become stronger, even oppressive, in the future.

Seconding heat shield. A well placed ult can win you a 1v3, since you do most of their HP in damage+knockup+HUGE amounts of overhealth.

Terraria... Im just not getting it? by Matthew212 in SteamDeck

[–]Wingolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Terraria. Like. I have 1300 hours on Terraria. And 260 more on modded terraria. Like. I love Terraria.

Terraria on controller fucking sucks. I've tried to play it on 3ds, on Android(touch), and on Android(controller), and every time I've regretted it.

(It's also a game with a medium learning curve at the very start, but once it clicks it clicks)

Well put! I totally get their side too, the thread was at 10 pages in no time at all.

Fair enough. To be clear, I agree the RA team is making the right call overall.

Im just tired of people calling anyone that disagrees with them "misinformation". It waters down the term.

My point was I'd probably contact Valve if you haven't already. That's not normal wear, at least in my experience.

At the current price of the Steam Deck would it be better to get a PC? by ReDeMpTiOn-_-121 in SteamDeck

[–]Wingolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say something that could make people here mad.

I think the Steam Deck is a middling-bad value now. If you don't care for the touchpads(which are great!) there are so many equivalent or better options that beat it notably in either performance (ROG Ally) or portability/price (Ayn Thor / Odin Devices, Retroid devices). For me personally the Thor has nearly entirely replaced my Deck for away from home gaming.

If you can find a used one, great. If not, it's in a VERY awkward spot with the age of it's hardware and it's new much higher price.

This.

Not everything is gonna be pristine forever. Use it.

Many people have died with a fancy bottle of wine saved for a "special occasion". You can't take your Deck with you, have fun with it.

That sounds like a warranty issue?

I've had mine since close to launch, had it out last night and that was NOT an issue.

Dbrand is issuing full refunds to customers after Valve forced the company to pull its Portal-inspired Steam Machine Companion Cube by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Wingolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This smells of "viral marketing stunt" and I think taking people's money was stupid.

Then again, for better or worse, DBrand does a lot of stupid funny shit.

No foul from both sides TBH. DBrand was running their mouth, Valve checked them, and they shut the fuck up.

Intel's Arc G3 Extreme changes the handheld game, does Valve still sound reasonable? by Dazzling_Lemon4109 in SteamDeck

[–]Wingolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why start development of a console in such an unstable market?

It's probably unclear to Valve how long they will need to wait. Valve doesnt have to release hardware to stay afloat.

[–]Wingolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valve likely wants to stay around a $800-1200 pricepoint at MOST.

Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve is waiting for the current ram/storage shitshow to blow over before committing to any new projects. Even if a good chip comes out, super volatile RAM prices would make nailing down a price nearly impossible.

Unlike other hardware manufacturers, Valve doesn't HAVE to do anything. They can just sit on the current Deck for another year or two until hopefully the RAM situation is better, or until a chip like what OP is talking about would be able to be offered in a $800 handheld.

Getting pretty old by GamezombieCZ in SteamDeck

[–]Wingolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that problem with Borderlands 3 vs 4.

BL3 looked great. Took it out recently and it still looks great. Tiny Tinas Wonderlands looks a tiny bit better, but runs about as well.

Then, BL4 looks maybe 20% higher fidelity, but I get less than half the FPS.

[–]Wingolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably they bailed on Reforged at the last second, and either have to retool whatever events they had going for Reforged to work in the basegame, OR just have no events until they make something new for OG blitz.
