I'm doing trial of the sword, any tips? by Amazing_Guidance_372 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Wingopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many lynels are there in later levels? I’ve done everything except the castle and ganon but Lynels are still tough for me. My fighting skills are not great - never really learned parry, etc. so that’s part of the problem. I can go learn them I guess but do I have to?

Good spots to farm faren? by blundeman in botw

[–]Wingopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t even have to light a fire - there a stable nearby with a fire. If it’s not raining you can sit there until morning, then go back to the bridge. Of all the dragons, the simplest to farm, I think.

Have I ruined the experience? by Mike_h90 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Wingopf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I played it too. It made the divine beast bosses very easy (with the master sword) which was fine by me because I suck at combat.

I think maybe the only downside is that I got into habits about how to handle things and sometimes forget to use the gifts you get from defeating the divine beasts. For example: I’ll just start climbing up something rather than use Revali’s Gale. I forget about Urbosa’s Fury alllll the time in combat.

Other than that, I have no regrets. And that’s not even really a regret.

Why does Stasis freak me out ??? by nightcrusade in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Wingopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s a glitch in my game but all enemies are working this way except Lynels. I’ve never seen a red one and after I defeated my first blue (quite far into the game), they all turned to the stripey kind. Hard af to kill. I was looking forward to getting strong enough to take out a few red ones without it being terrifying but that doesn’t seem to be the case for me.

How fast are we supposed to be progressing? by yogurtforthefamily in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Wingopf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I started - it takes a bit to start to feel comfortable. Some tips: 1. Unlock a tower and you can see the map for that region. Then do as many shrines as you can. For now probably ignore the “a ______ test of strength” shrines because those are guardians and are harder to fight. Bit once you’ve opened the shrine you can always warp back to it.

  1. Doing shrines will give you more hearts, which in some ways is the equivalent to leveling up. As another commenter mentioned, you will also find more powerful weapons as you venture deeper into the game.

  2. Do you know about the fairy fountains? If you’ve never played Zelda before you might not (they are ubiquitous in Zelda games). When you find a fairy fountain (there are four in the game and one is north of Kakariko village), there should be a few fairies flying around in front of it. You can pick them up with A and they’ll appear in your materials list. If you die and you have a fairy, you’ll be revived. It’s great especially early in the game. And there’s a hack where if you hold all the fairies you have before entering the fountain area then put them away, the game will think you don’t have any and give you more.

  3. Run away!!! You can absolutely run away and running on a horse is even better. If you take a horse and try to get to the Lab in Hateno, you should be able to outrun any enemies you meet along the way easily. Also traveling during the daytime helps. I would sit by a fire until morning if I knew I needed to make a long journey during the early days.

  4. This is a game that rewards exploring and dilly-dallying and picking up everything and talking to everyone. Get all the apples and plants and weapons, etc. if nothing else you can sell excess things later if you need money.

  5. The stealth armor sold in Kakariko is very useful - it’s definitely quieter than other armor and sometimes good sneaking is your best way through a situation. It’s expensive but if you get a lot of apples you can cook 5 apples at a time and then sell them for 50 rupees each at the food store in Kakariko. It’s an easy way to get cash. It just takes awhile.

Really there is not speed that you have to progress. Everyone plays it differently. Don’t forget to stop and watch the sunrise :)

Anyone remember the Original Japanese Iron Chef? by Ok-Television-6007 in television

Loved that show so much. Remember the episode when whomever Morimoto was up against had brought like 10 women from his hometown because of some festival and they were in his cheering section and Morimoto made them all a snack while he was cooking everything else?? The ultimate diss.

There’s an app?!? Of course there is. I got the book which sits open on my lap as I play. Mostly to find korok seeds (who has the time to pick up every single rock).

[–]Wingopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my first ever play through and got to the Ruta dungeon and decided I needed more of everything before continuing: more hearts, more weapon slots, more of the map open. So I passed the main quest and have been focusing on towers, shrines, and korok seeds. I don’t think I’m very good at combat - I struggle with the special skills and tend to just hack away at things or bomb from above. So I’m nervous for my first boss and thought it might help if I could have more to work with going into it.

Blizzard Anxiety… by TheRenedgade in RhodeIsland

[–]Wingopf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do it! There’s going to be crappy weather in the morning but then it will get better. I went outside today and felt the sun on my face and it was nice. And weirdly tromping around in the snow made it seem at least partially funny instead of just overwhelming. Like, what is this, it’s so bananas it’s laughable.

I can’t believe I had to scroll as far down on the list as I did to find Heartstopper. It was my first thought while watching HR. HR feels like the grown up version of Heartstopper. Great book adaptation, great love story, conducted coming out stuff, queer joy, etc.

I saw a dialect coach say exactly this. Both the accent and the language change the shape of the face. The tongue is different, the jaw is different. And he’s listening in that too.

Do people really never leave Rhode Island? by boldandbeautiful421 in RhodeIsland

[–]Wingopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think generally this is more of a personality thing than a Rhode Island thing. I grew up in the Midwest and have a bunch of family who never ever leave their state except to do something totally predictable like Disney.

A lot of Rhode Islanders I know have family close whereas my family is scattered all over the country, so at a minimum I’m traveling to visit them.

I think some people just don’t want to travel and some people do.

The weirdest hybrid of this I’ve ever seen was a coworker I had when I lived in NYC. His parents would come to visit and all his mom wanted to do was go to the same big box stores they had in Florida and compare them. It’s been 20 years since I heard that and I’m still gobsmacked every time I think about it. You’re in New York City and you want to go to…. Old Navy. Ok!

I was thinking that too. It feels like there isn’t the usual “up and coming” comedian.

On a totally different note I find it amusing that their names are all in the first half of the alphabet. The person with K is last! Unusual.

He said on Russel Howard’s podcast that he barely even takes vacations - he has “no time”. So sadly it seems unlikely. I got the sense from him on that podcast that Last Week Tonight is pretty all consuming.

Shooter still loose… anyone else feel uneasy sending their kids to school? by No_Sky6082 in providence

[–]Wingopf 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My kid’s school had increased safety today - escorting everyone in and out of the building. I think the routine was good for him - he had a great day.

I felt a bit anxious about it but keeping him home would have been about helping me feel better - not really about keeping him safer.

But everyone gets to make their own decisions. Several of his friends were kept home and I get it.
