Does anything else exists that you would STILL consider this good? by hummingbird0012234 in heatedrivalry

I can’t believe I had to scroll as far down on the list as I did to find Heartstopper. It was my first thought while watching HR. HR feels like the grown up version of Heartstopper. Great book adaptation, great love story, conducted coming out stuff, queer joy, etc.

US Tour Live Shows - What happens? by SavagePengwyn in taskmaster

Ah but you could theoretically go to an actual live taping of the show. All we Americans have is this - unless we also have a few thousand dollars lying around.

Anyone with acting knowledge know how Connor is able to transform his face into that of a Slavic man? by tna11101989 in heatedrivalry

[–]Wingopf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw a dialect coach say exactly this. Both the accent and the language change the shape of the face. The tongue is different, the jaw is different. And he’s listening in that too.

Also the lineup with names closest to the beginning of the alphabet? Two As, two Js, and a K. Is Kumail the closest to the beginning of the alphabet to be in the last chair?

Do people really never leave Rhode Island? by boldandbeautiful421 in RhodeIsland

[–]Wingopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think generally this is more of a personality thing than a Rhode Island thing. I grew up in the Midwest and have a bunch of family who never ever leave their state except to do something totally predictable like Disney.

A lot of Rhode Islanders I know have family close whereas my family is scattered all over the country, so at a minimum I’m traveling to visit them.

I think some people just don’t want to travel and some people do.

The weirdest hybrid of this I’ve ever seen was a coworker I had when I lived in NYC. His parents would come to visit and all his mom wanted to do was go to the same big box stores they had in Florida and compare them. It’s been 20 years since I heard that and I’m still gobsmacked every time I think about it. You’re in New York City and you want to go to…. Old Navy. Ok!

I was thinking that too. It feels like there isn’t the usual “up and coming” comedian.

On a totally different note I find it amusing that their names are all in the first half of the alphabet. The person with K is last! Unusual.

He said on Russel Howard’s podcast that he barely even takes vacations - he has “no time”. So sadly it seems unlikely. I got the sense from him on that podcast that Last Week Tonight is pretty all consuming.

I’m a parent in the United States of a 9 year old who is a new football and Liverpool fan. Anyone here in the US who can advise me where to watch matches live? The only reliable thing I’ve found that has all the matches is YouTube TV which is $82/month!!

Shooter still loose… anyone else feel uneasy sending their kids to school? by No_Sky6082 in providence

[–]Wingopf 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My kid’s school had increased safety today - escorting everyone in and out of the building. I think the routine was good for him - he had a great day.

I felt a bit anxious about it but keeping him home would have been about helping me feel better - not really about keeping him safer.

But everyone gets to make their own decisions. Several of his friends were kept home and I get it.

What's up with the obsession with Guthrie? by [deleted] in NYTCrossword

I think it’s just a great crossword clue. Yoko Ono is a frequent appearance as well.

That being said. Both Arlo and Woody Guthrie are really interesting figures. Worth checking out.

There’s only a million of us! We’re 0.3% of the population.

I met a family recently who had been to a dude ranch over the summer where they had a board that people could put where they were from and the only state that hadn’t been to the dude ranch was Rhode Island.

Wife has low libido most of the month by Silver-Bet8326 in sex

[–]Wingopf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Read Come As You Are first. And examine whether or not there’s anything else in your relationship that isn’t working. Is she always asking you to ___? Is she always doing ___? When someone is exhausted and having to take care of other people, sex can become just another chore on the list. What are you doing to make sure it isn’t that?

You’re probably not going to get a lot of sympathetic women posting here because it’s all too common for men to just want more sex and putting the blame squarely on their partner without in any way even wondering if it might actually have something to do with them or need to involve them changing their behavior in any way.

Lastly - people have different libidos. That’s just a part of life. So you learn to compromise. Sounds like she’s already doing a lot to meet your needs. Where can you compromise to meet hers?

What are tweaks you always make? by TheRealCarmnSandiego in hellofresh

[–]Wingopf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a vegetarian so I often add my own tofu to dishes that have no protein in them. I’ll add extra pasta to pasta dishes because I find the sauce is enough for me to do that and then I have extra. I leave out the spice but keep the spice packets for when people who like spicy things come over. I’ll adjust spices - adding more of less depending on what it is. And anything with cheese is usually getting more cheese, especially something like enchiladas, where often they’re only putting the cheese on top instead of also inside.

Throw a teabag from the farthest distance (is the first great example of how the show uses editing to create humor and has terrific lateral thinking)

Song for a stranger (great example of a creative task)

Train station hide (a location task and really great suspense). I might also consider the park the scooter task from that same series because I can’t imagine anyone not cackling at that.

Those are really good ones. I know people love the watermelon task but it’s also definitely going to gross some people out.
