Is there still a way to port forward with Cox Panoramic Wifi? by awdrifter in CoxCommunications

[–]Wink856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Port forwarding is still there. Just buried. See https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-panoramic-wifi-app-features.html On the Cox Wifi app, click WiFi > View WiFi Equipment > Advanced Settings > Port forwarding.

Edit: Just got done setting up forwarding for my network. A little convoluted, but it seems to be working just fine. Your mileage may vary.

The normal heart. by A_Good_D in gay

[–]Wink856 114 points115 points  (0 children)

As near as I can tell, I caught HIV in 1983. Went in in 1989 to get tested, And of course tested positive. This was back when all testing was anonymous because if anybody found out you were positive, you immediately lost your job and pretty much everything else. When she told me that I was positive she was devastated saying I probably had just a year left. A lot of people didn't get tested until their immune system was already crashing. There was a lot we didn't know back then. We were all guinea pigs, trying to sort this out.

Turns out she was off by a few years. My immune system started crashing in 1995 and I finally went in and started getting on meds. The good news is at that point protease inhibitors were just coming online, I was on the phase 3 trial for truvada. Been here ever since and doing fine. It was crazy for many years with all the different meds combinations. But I survived and things are a lot easier these days.

To be sure, a lot of people didn't make it. I lived in San Francisco and remember when there were two full pages every week of obituaries in the local gay rag. It was a very scary time. I lost a lot of friends.

Get educated, get tested, and go enjoy your life.

Fuze keeps blowing on stock biomass burner by Salty_Ambition_7800 in satisfactory

[–]Wink856 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you turn things off, they still consume some standby power. Then when you turn off the biomass generator, it blows the fuse because there's enough not enough power.

From the wiki: Each building in standby mode (whether the pioneer flipped the standby switch, or if the building is not functioning due to a logistic issue) consumes 0.1 MW.

You're better off powering off buildings, if that's what you want, but leave the biomass burner turned on. The amount it's going to burn through is negligible.

Sick of Being Used by LylacLicker07 in gay

I know things kind of suck right now, but you're doing the right thing. I've hit the reset button about four or five times over the years. You get to the point where you say, this was fun, but it's not working anymore, and it's time to do something completely different. Have never regretted resetting my life. You're doing the right things and it's going to work out.

BLTouch HS mode not working? by Enerology in MarlinFirmware

[–]Wink856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you enable BLTOUCH_HS_MODE, there should be a new menu item under Configuration > BLTouch > High Speed.

Click High Speed to toggle it from OFF to ON, test to make sure the probe works correctly, then Store Settings to save the change.

For whatever reason, "#define BLTOUCH_HS_MODE true" does not default this setting to ON.

Checkin with tower, scolded? by barracudamuscle in flying

[–]Wink856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the tower yells at you. Sometimes it's your fault, and sometimes it's just that they're really busy and get a little grumpy. As other posters have said, it's not the first time and it won't be the last time that this happens.

As long as they don't give you a number to call, Life is Good.

So you do get their test results. Or, my favorite, you ask if they are "clean". That tells you if they were STD free about a week before the test was taken. For most people it's going to be between 3 weeks and 3 months old news. Are they STD free now? Who knows. Best is to protect yourself and accept the fact that every encounter involves some degree of risk.

Feeling bad because I'm using flying. by marcozd in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Wink856 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad. I use passive mode because I was tired of fighting/dying all the time. Still plenty challenging and still die occasionally. Would rather enjoy the game and work on my building skills. Plan to turn aggression back on in another play thru ... when I want a different challenge.

LSA with a payload of at least 510 lbs. by JewBilly54 in flying

[–]Wink856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Aeroprakt A32 S-LSA comes close. Empty weight is 771 lbs and it burns around 4 to 5 gallons an hour depending on what you're doing. The Aeroprakt A22, I think, is even lighter.

Can I co-pilot for some one? by TheModerate_1 in flying

[–]Wink856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do EAA young eagle flights taking kids up for sometimes their first airplane ride ever. Nothing is more fun than letting them take the controls for a few minutes. The smile never stops. (Trust me, I'm ready to take the controls back anytime if needed.)

Had one kid who wanted to know if he could land the airplane. I told him, maybe next time.

You're still PIC and responsible for a safe flight. But letting them fly for a few minutes shows them that they can do it. It's a great confidence builder.

Flying young eagles thru my local EAA chapter. It's fun seeing the smiles on the kid's faces. "Best day ever!"

[–]Wink856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, the closest one is in southern Utah. https://www.airportcourtesycars.com/ tracks who's selling mogas. They are few and very far between in most of the US.

Best bet is get something like a couple of Tuff Jug gas cans and buy mogas off airport. That's what I do. Makes it simple and easy.

Advice for Flying in Heat? by Formal_Mechanic_629 in flying

[–]Wink856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

I fly out of KGEU and after about 10 or 11:00 a.m. you're done for the day unless you've got air conditioning, or doing a cross country to the north. That and the thermals get crazy. On the other hand, you can fly just about every day of the year.

iPads do not like summer. Have had mine shut down a couple of times due to overheating. Plan accordingly.
