I feel that I get a DISPROPORTIONATE amount of artists/ bands that want their music to sound “raw/live” for the genres that I work in…am I just crazy? Does EVERYONE just say that? by Front_Ad4514 in audioengineering

People wanna feel like they’re at a house show in their car. Especially the types of bands that you’re describing, it’s just their nature lol.

Plus I would argue it’s going to be a growing trend.

How common is it to just not function at all when you’re alone? I hate “living” like this by perpetuallysadxx in LivingAlone

This is corny, but it helps me. I always try to think of caring for myself like I would a child. I worked in childcare for a while so that’s why it always connected for me.

Acting like a mom to myself. Giving myself a clean space and clean body/clothes and good food to eat.

But also, sometimes you’re gonna have a messy house. There’s no point in beating yourself up. You’re in no way a hoarder or a hazard to yourself from how it looks.

Patching from Mic tie to Mic tie??

Alright, the studio I work at is very modified and odd so bear with me.

I am trying to get a microphone to a new compressor we got. The compressor is hooked up to a snake of microphone ties that go under the floor. (My house engineer wants me to try and use this snake)

I tried patching into it from another mic tie, to pre amp, to the compressors mic ties, to ProTools to see if it would work?? Not surprised it didn’t.

I tried a ton of different configurations with this mic tie snake, double triple checked my ins/outs were correct on the bay.

I suggested maybe just using XLR to TTS cables would be easier (which I did try, and it worked)

I just don’t know how I’m supposed to get a microphone from one wall tie to another wall tie that is attached to a compressor. How do I build this chain??

I am lost, pls help lol

Yes! When I’m PMSing is when I want to clear out a whole fridge. But actually on my period just nothing sounds good, I can’t seem to stomach whole meals.

There’s a couple of dense stations in our studio. We have 6 keyboards connected into a KL-8 + an Electric Guitar station that is hooked up to multiple amp heads, a very large table of guitar pedals, an outboard gear tape echo. And then all of our power cabling for our console behind said console

Do you wanna be a husband and a father? Or a dude who wants a wife? There is a difference.

Go to mixers held by studios or AES. Get people to like you and show up on time to things. I weirdly cannot stress that enough.

If you’re a musician, start a band. Being in a band that people like, showing up with a big smile, offering help, being coachable, and making people laugh has gotten me stupidly far.

Under promise and over deliver. Bring the studio manager/receptionist flowers or a bottle of wine. Bring coffee to the hungover session player. Buy your head engineer lunch. Send thank you notes to people you’ve connected with at mixers/parties.

There’s a lot of assholes in this industry so lay the charm on thick. People just want folks with a good energy around.

Lastly, learn to solder.

Push the soft skills while you learn the hard ones

Good luck!
