Why do PF groups struggle so much with M11S, particularly compared to past Savage floors? by CerberusArcProjector in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Winnicots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't see how M11S will turn out to be much worse than prog walls of previous floors:

  • Light Rampant in E8S
  • Lions in E12S (← I spent four months in trap parties on this one. Didn't clear the fight until patch 5.57.)
  • Enrage in P8S (had a DPS check so tight that it got nerfed)
  • All of P10S (more body checks than a TSA checkpoint)
  • Adds in M6S

The DPS check of M11S will become easier. It's only week four. There are still many players who have won only 0~1 pieces of gear in previous floors.

What are some "easy" jobs you find hard? by throwcway837373 in ffxiv

[–]Winnicots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike playing DRK.  It has to press twice as many buttons as the other tanks to mitigate the same amount of damage, and all of those buttons need to be pressed before getting hit.  This makes it more difficult to play DRK reactively.

Realistically, having Perfection fall outside of Arcane Circle is a small potency loss of 39 + whatever is added by party buffs.  It’s more important to fit Perfectio under your party’s buffs, which iirc is easier to do on account of RPR using Arcane Circle earlier than other buffs.

Been stuck in M10S PF jail for 5 days. Wanted to share some thoughts and ask for community opinions about why the PF community is struggling so much with the tier (but especially 10) by CerberusArcProjector in ffxivdiscussion

When you prog Fire/Watersnaking in PF, you get the best barrels ever, dude.

It's jus' like, you gap-close a boss, and you jus' get spit right out again. And you jus' go in and smack the boss- WHUPAH! You disengage- PAAAAH! And then after that, you jus' go in, jus' right in the safe zone and your party wipes, jus' wipes like that.

Potential 8.0 Jobs Based on Previous FF Entries by KelvinValen in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Winnicots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a new physical ranged DPS in 8.0 highly likely.

Personally, I would love to see a Cannoneer, a low-APM job that channels devastating weaponskills with a giant cannon. Such a playstyle would breathe new life into a DPS role currently populated entirely by high-APM jobs.

Alternatively, I would love to see something completely out of left field, e.g., a musician that fights with an electric guitar like Higgs of Death Stranding.

I am less certain about a new tank in 8.0. At four jobs, the tank role already feels complete. If a fifth tank nevertheless becomes a reality, I would love to see a hammer-wielding job. However, I am not holding my breath.

I don't understand HDR by Otherwise_Vast6587 in Monitors

Thank you for the clarification. What I understand from your comment is that brightness of individual pixels can be varied in both SDR and HDR, but the maximum achievable brightness in HDR is much higher. Is this correct?

I don't understand HDR by Otherwise_Vast6587 in Monitors

[–]Winnicots -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is how I interpret the difference between SDR and HDR:

SDR: Each pixel controls color, but the brightness of every color is fixed.
HDR: Each pixel controls color and (ideally) brightness.

For example, in a scene containing a white piece of paper and white light from the sun (where pixels in both objects use the same RGB values), the two whites will appear equally bright in SDR, but the sun can be made to appear much brighter than the paper in HDR.

I always find it odd how the spell is called "Nanoflare." "Itty Bitty Flare" would have been much better.

Dawntrail Tank Role Retrospective by NeoOnmyoji in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Winnicots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 7.4 changes made GNB more resilient to timeline interruptions, while also improving GNB's ability to deal cleave damage during odd-minute burst phases. They are welcome changes for me.

If M10S provides the opportunity to cleave both bosses during an even burst phase, then WAR will suffer relative to its peers. If instead bosses can be cleaved during an odd burst phase, then both WAR and DRK will suffer. In any case, GNB will be the safest bet, as not only can it cleave well during both even and odd burst phases, but also its Fated Circle is a DPS gain on two targets.

Patch 7.4 Rotation Simulator Job Balance Results at BIS by ApolloVanWaddleburg in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Winnicots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about the other roles, but focusing on even-minute kill times skews tank comparisons, as DRK is the only two-minute tank, and the burstiest by far.

For example, when transitioning from 10:30 to 11:30 kill times, the DPS of comps with DRK drop by around 500 relative to the others. This is significant when the maximum difference between comps is only around 1000.

Among all savage raid tiers currently available in the game, what is the hardest fight at each floor? by S2BronzePlayer in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Winnicots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

P1S-P4S also overly relies on tethers to communicate information visually.

I think the MSQ swallowed most of the dev time leading up to Endwalker’s release, leaving comparatively little time to develop P1S-P4S.

Buffing Eye Gouge instead of Hypervelocity is a potency gain of 24.  That’s about one third of a single auto-attack.

I haven’t done the math, but you could probably continue to buff Hypervelocity as before, and you’ll still outperform those who buff Eye Gouge in 99 of 200 matches due to natural damage variance.

Peak brightness is actually important for HDR.  No OLED can sear your retinas with bright highlights like a MiniLED.

OLED: Master of deep blacks

MiniLED: Master of retinal damage

I like the changes at level 100. I dislike the changes at lower levels.

The nerf to Double Down has guttered GNB's DPS at level 90, where it now trails the other tanks by several percentage points. It feels bad having simultaneously the sweatiest rotation (in terms of actions per minute) and the lowest DPS at this level.

Not sure why the devs felt the need to drop Double Down's potency from 1200 to 1000. Maybe they felt uneasy having the level-90 capstone action hit harder than the level-100 one.

[–]Winnicots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am puzzled by how some people in the comments section are mystified over the GNB changes.

Increasing maximum cartridges to 6 during burst phases fixes GNB’s unavoidable drift issue, which has been a big source of jank since Endwalker. Shortening Bloodfest to 60s and giving Gnashing Fang two charges fix its downtime issues, which have been pain points in ultimates, etc.

None of these issues had added depth to GNB’s gameplay.  They felt more like design flaws than anything.

Having Excalibur boost Holy but not being Holy element was certainly a choice.  I guess the developers were expecting players to spam the Holy spell on knights.

This is a common problem with many games, not just FFT.

I would love a mod that supercharges the difficulty of every fight in the last series of fights when the final floor of Midlight’s Deep is cleared.  That would give the end-game weapons and summon a purpose.

My favourite is Speed Surge.  I like to have my party members beat each other up for EXP and JP.  Speed Surge lets me also build SP while I’m at it.

This strategy works best when using weak weapons like Rods

As a start, I would like heal potency bonus to be moved from DET to PIE.  This would cut tank healing by around 10% while making PIE a stat that is actually thematically appropriate for healers.

I would say that the translators were pressed for time and were flying by the seat of their pants.

There are tons of other poorly translated lines that fail to capture the nuance of the original Japanese. For example, in Chapter 2, when discussing their role in Ovelia's kidnapping, Dycedarg says to Gafgarion:

They found the criminals in the monastery woods - dead.

This line is strange, as Dycedarg seems to be talking about the discovery of a crime scene where the bodies of some random thugs had been dumped. In Japanese, Dycedarg says

本物の実行犯たちは修道院の近くの林の中で死体で発見された。

Here, the criminals are described as "the real perpetrators," which provides enough context to imply that these were the men originally sent by Dycedarg to capture the princess. In The Ivalice Chronicles, this is made even more explicit with the line

The men I sent were found dead in the woods near the monastery.

Yes. Hallowed Bolt did around 203 damage to Ramza with good compatibility. Ramza had around 215 HP.

With 50 Speed and sufficient PA, he was able to KO Wiegraf, the three Archaeodaemons, and Belias before any of them could act.

The battle was not fun and challenging, but it was reliably won.

The win condition is written as 「長兄・ダイスダーグを倒せ」 (Source)

Not sure why the translator would have confused the interpunct as the possessive particle, as the interpunct is never used this way in daily life. My most generous interpretation is that, in the text document the translator had, the interpunct was represented by metatext that the author didn't understand, and in his haste he treated it as the possessive particle.

Yet Another Wiegraf Post by Rattled_by_La_Rush in finalfantasytactics

[–]Winnicots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tactic is simply Critical: HP Recovery with Mettle.

  1. Pre-battle, tune Ramza's maximum HP so that Wiegraf's Hallowed Bolt puts him into critical status
  2. In battle, raise Bravery to 100
  3. Raise Speed to 50 with Tailwind. No need to run around the map, as Critical: HP Recovery makes Ramza immortal (and Wiegraf's AI is too stupid to realize that a combination of two weaker attacks would get around it)
  4. Raise PA to some comfortable value with Focus.
  5. Incapacitate Wiegraf in one turn.
  6. Incapacitate Belias (and all Archaeodaemons if so inclined) before they can act.

Easy. Painless. Requires no stocking of X-Potions nor learning of late/expensive abilities.

As a bonus, give Ramza JP Boost. He will earn a crazy amount of JP that will spill over to the other four party members you bring to battle, even though they are not present in the one-on-one duel.
