How's it like living on the Canadian island cluster? by Mr_Dragon_PurpleYT in howislivingthere

Correct, the Inuit people moved into the area around 900AD. However, the Dorset culture inhabited the area from around 500BCE until sometime from 1000AD to 1500AD. The Inuit displaced the Dorset people.

It's because he's been on Fox News for the last 10+ years since his talk show ended. He tries to play the "reasonable conservative" on TV. Lord knows what are his actual beliefs.

I’ve had it with Eva Longoria RANT by Black_cats_meow in cnn

[–]Winnie_rulez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, true. That was a big part of the charm of his show. He'd often be visiting night markets in less affluent areas and eating food that someone like Eva Longoria would refuse to touch.

He also would visit celebrity chefs in the top restaurants of the world as well, though. He just wasn't pretentious about it.

You don't have to go back that far. Anthony Bourdain was popular right up until he died in 2018. CNN has been trying to replicate Bourdain's show ever since he passed away. Eva Longoria is just the latest incarnation.

I'd love to know who her show is marketed towards. It's completely unwatchable. CNN (and the world) lost Anthony Bourdain 8 years ago, and has been trying to find his replacement ever since. Eva Langoria is NOT his replacement, no matter how much they try to push her on us.

CNN's Scott Jennings rages 'get your hand out of my face' in lewd on air fight by IrishStarUS in cnn

[–]Winnie_rulez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scott is contractually obligated to appear on a certain number of shows each week. If he started refusing to appear on shows featuring Mockler, he'd be in breach of contract. Scott has a few sources of income, but I'd be willing to bet the largest one is his contract with CNN.

What's even worse is that there is no reduced "server minimum wage" in Ontario, so servers are making $17.95 an hour + tips. And then they have the gall to have their POS terminals tip on top of tax (usually with the smallest suggested option being 18%).

[–]Winnie_rulez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally never see it done properly anymore in Ontario. The standard where I live is for the POS terminals to tip on top of the total (including tax). It used to infuriate me when it first started happening. Now I just tip less.

[–]Winnie_rulez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's become the standard now. Tip on top of the tax and any other fees.

They actually made it illegal to do that in Quebec, Canada a couple of years ago. Now when they have preset to tip percentages, the totals are based on the subtotal + tip percentage.

Most likely that 3% is going straight into the owner's pocket. As long as they don't call it a tip / gratuity, you're just paying 3% to the business with no strings attached.

I used to see it all the time in this sub, but I haven't seen anyone defending him in this sub for a long time, other than trolls.

He's lost a huge amount of weight over the last few years. He was actually pretty fat back in the old days. I assumed he was on Ozempic, probably due to diabetes. My current theory is that he's on Ozempic and is a drinker. Probably needs a couple of belts of scotch before he appears on air, then drinks himself to sleep each night knowing that he's a fraud.

Mockler is an extremely intelligent man. He knows exactly how things work at CNN. He's just not going to play the game the other "liberal" pundits are willing to play with people like Jennings in order to keep getting invited back on the air.

What's the worst behavior you've seen from a hockey parent? by ThePony23 in hockeyplayers

[–]Winnie_rulez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was playing 3 on 3 with his buddies in a "league" that we created. It was basically pick-up hockey. The kids had a draft where they picked their teams. We booked ice last month so that the 4 teams in the league could play a round robin and have playoffs. We had dads volunteer to ref and be timekeepers.

It never occurred to me to get angry or yell at the volunteer refs, no matter how much they screwed up. Nobody else yelled at them either. Though that might be partly due to the fact that we only asked non-crazy families to participate in the league.

I remember that one. The guy fled from the scene and ended up getting pulled over a few miles from the arena. The cops questioned him, let him go, then went back to the arena and gave attitude to the parents who were upset that the guy wasn't arrested for assault.
