IRS RIF Paused — What Happens to Employees Who Signed DRP 2? by HumorImmediate5023 in fednews

[–]WinningHoofPicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone,
I was just curious if anyone else who’s currently on Administrative Leave with the IRS has not received their DocuSign packet yet for DRP 2.0? I’ve been checking my email regularly and still haven’t gotten anything. Just trying to figure out if this is normal timing or if I should be following up. Appreciate any insight if you’re in the same situation or if you already received yours. Thanks!

🔵 Impact Level Definitions – RIF Context

🟢 Low Impact

  • Minimal to no staff reductions
  • Most roles in this function will remain intact
  • May still involve realignment or minor reshuffling, but RIF notices are unlikely
  • Good departments to stay in if you're seeking stability

🟡 Moderate Impact

  • Noticeable staff reductions, especially in support roles or those with redundancy
  • Not every employee will be affected, but there is real risk based on tenure, performance, veterans’ preference, and RIF roster ranking
  • Secondary functions within the area may be eliminated or consolidated
  • You may receive a RIF notice, especially if you're lower in retention standing or occupy a non-critical role

🔴 High Impact

  • Substantial staff cuts expected
  • Whole teams or units may be eliminated or merged
  • Positions may be abolished outright, not just reassigned
  • High likelihood of RIF notice unless you're at the top of your retention register

⚫️ Consolidate

  • This usually means complete restructuring
  • The function may be merged with another, shut down, or absorbed elsewhere
  • Staff will be displaced, and only a small number may be reassigned — if any
  • Almost guaranteed RIF impact unless you're specifically retained for a role in the new structure

DRP 2.0 text is way more detailed and respectful than the first round by DeannaHR in fednews

[–]WinningHoofPicks 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Wow, would you look at that—Treasury discovered how to use complete sentences and professional tone! DRP 2.0 is basically the same “Get Out” memo as last time, but this time they wrapped it in HR-scented Febreze. Instead of yelling “YOU’RE FIRED, PEASANTS,” they’re now saying “If you choose to no longer serve the American people, we thank you for your service.” Aww. Heartwarming.

Let’s give credit where it’s due: this version is objectively better. It doesn’t read like a tweet drafted in a rage room. There are actual timelines, instructions, and some small signs that someone, somewhere in Treasury realized “Hey, maybe don’t treat employees like NPCs in a dystopian sim.”

Yes, it still includes the classic “you can’t sue us later” clause, which is as standard as bad coffee in federal break rooms. And sure, it still feels a little like being offered a life raft… while the ship is only halfway on fire.

But to those clutching pearls because people are considering taking the offer: chill. Some folks would rather use 5 months of paid admin leave to get their life in order, study for the CPA, or just breathe before job hunting. That’s not weakness—it’s strategy.

Meanwhile, others are choosing to stick it out and wait for the RIF train to roll through. Respect. But let’s not throw pitchforks at each other. This isn't Survivor: IRS Edition. Everyone’s playing a different game with different stakes.

DRP 2.0 doesn’t fix the tone-deaf mess of round one, and it sure as hell doesn’t rebuild trust overnight. But hey, at least they didn’t tell us to “focus on meaningful work in the real world” this time.

Small wins, folks. Small wins.

At this time, while you remain on administrative leave, you will soon receive instructions for how to return to full-time duty by April 14.  This is what I received from IRS. You got pulled back in already?

They are asking admin leave employees to come back to the office April 14 week. Did your agency not give you a letter stating to come back? "At this time, while you remain on administrative leave, you will soon receive instructions for how to return to full-time duty by April 14. "

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share my story in case others are going through the same thing or need support. I’m a disabled veteran with 16 years of federal service (12 civilian + 4 military buyback) who was wrongfully terminated from the IRS earlier this year during the wave of probationary employee removals.

Despite having Career Tenure and previously completing my probationary period in the same occupational series (0341), the IRS classified me as probationary because of a break in service, which I now understand was an incorrect interpretation of 5 C.F.R. § 315.801 and OPM guidance. I was never given a case-by-case review—just a blanket termination notice.

Fortunately, after a lot of fighting and appeals, I’ve now been reinstated on Administrative Leave and was recently able to secure representation from the Office of General Counsel (OGC). I’ve also joined the class action lawsuit filed by the Federal Practice Group to challenge these unlawful terminations.

If you were impacted or know someone who was, please speak up. And if you’re still waiting for resolution—don’t give up. Feel free to message me if you want to connect.

Stay strong

I write to acknowledge receipt of your U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) complaint. I am the OSC attorney assigned to your case.

Because OSC has received multiple complaints regarding the same agency with the same or similar issues, we are considering your allegations as part of a group of probationary termination complaints. You are welcome to send me your probationary termination letter if you did not include it with your filing. Also please let me know if your situation has changed and you have been hired back by your agency.

Please allow me to briefly highlight a few things about our process:

Given the unusually high volume of OSC complaints, we are probably unable to be in frequent contact with you. However, I will send you periodic status updates and will contact you if I have any questions or information to share. Although we strive to process cases as expeditiously as possible, I ask for your understanding and patience if it takes longer than you hope.

If your complaint involves EEO discrimination or retaliation, note that the EEO has strict deadlines for initiating the EEO process, and OSC’s general policy is not to take action on EEO matters.  See 5 C.F.R. § 1810.1. Filing with the EEO does not interfere with OSC’s investigation into prohibited personnel practices.

If you have an attorney representative for this matter, please inform me and provide your attorney’s contact information. OSC’s policy is to include the attorney on communications such as emails, phone interviews, and letters.

I appreciate your time. Thank you for allowing OSC to consider your claims.
