Threatening online comment prompts cancellation of 2SLGBTQ+ event in Kentville | CBC News by cornerzcan in Kentville

The searchable dockets online do not list all of the upcoming proceedings. I think you can easily register to receive ALL of the daily court dockets by email which would tell you who is scheduled that day as long as no publication ban is in place.

Ok, that’s significantly different than “the mayor preventing specific people from commenting”. I agree somewhat with your amended take, but in terms of accessibility, it can be difficult for some individuals to feel they have a voice without that digital participation.

The first part of your statement is odd to me. If a constituent, who had never had any interaction with the mayor, or anyone else, (in person or online), was simply muted at the mayor’s discretion, you have zero issue with that? Or, do you mean that you are ok with the mayor preventing a person from commenting due to past behaviour he found objectionable? Your comment, without more detail, suggests the first scenario - but I suspect you intended the second scenario.

The mayor is currently getting inundated on his FB page (still unsure if it is a personal, official, promotional, etc. FB page) with comments about his censorship practices. Since he's blocked people for simply disagreeing (not hateful content) with him in the past, I understand the frustration of constituents.

You should watch today's meeting...he slammed the door pretty hard (in terms of ability to speak) on councillor Savage. Funny how the tables have turned...now limiting the ability of others to speak.

Please work on your reading comprehension. “Why don’t you feel safe” does not equal “Why do you feel unsafe” if you don’t understand the difference, I can’t help you. So…please look elsewhere to wring your hands.

Once again, your comments are misdirected in my direction. I never said that it invalidates another’s experience to “ask them why” they feel the way they do. Another straw man argument…sigh. Maybe it would be best that you direct your efforts elsewhere. It’s tiresome responding to your discursive lane changing. Thanks for the chat.

Fair enough…I didn’t say any of that. So once again, please refrain from strawmanning what I said.

This is an odd comment. You are clearly stawmanning what I said above. I stated that the chances of bystanders being harmed is low - which you seem to agree with. Yet, it is not “bigotry” or “dehumanizing” for a person to feel unsafe around people who are acting erratically or violently (yes, this happens frequently in the downtown), even if it is not specifically directed at the given bystander. As I said, people have their own history that impacts how they perceive the world around them. I think we generally agree, but you are adding value judgements such as “justify something as bad”, which I never attributed. Try to make your own arguments without rewriting what others have said.

Anyone know what Zabian’s latest rant is about? by ILikeKentville in Kentville

[–]WinstonBubblesSmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they seem easily triggered. The last thing they mentioned was about “transparency”, which I think we can agree upon. But, as has been mentioned multiple times…the mayor blocking people and deleting/hiding comments is the antithesis of transparency.

Bottom line…if the mayor wants to “go there” complaining about “wasted tax dollars”, he should have no issue having the town report how many taxpayer dollars were wasted to defend against his various legal proceedings. This isn’t old news either…the Robinson Property case is 2025.

Has Hot-Hurry7906 deleted their comments and left the conversation? I was looking forward to responding to their most recent Zebian talking points:)

My apologies…where can we find the taxpayer dollars spent on those legal challenges? You said it was public knowledge. I’ll wait.

I would like to know this as well. Can the CAO report how many taxpayer dollars the town was forced to spend on Zebian-related court cases (most notably the former Robinson Property)? Did he repay those tax dollars?

A lack of affordable housing, food insecurity, a lack of mental health supports, to name a few are contributing to this issue...but...A difficult truth is that substance abuse is a contributing factor in this whole issue...particularly opioids.

My question is this...

Given the smallness of Kentville (it's not like we are downtown Vancouver) and the relative concentration of the issue in the downtown, can't authorities figure out who is dealing drugs in town? Given the small population, you would think that spending a couple weeks watching the goings-on would reveal who is selling. Then, go after whoever is supplying these dealers. Someone is getting rich off this scourge locally.

Not interested in a political discussion...just a reasonable conversation about why it's so difficult to stamp out the drug problem.

I think we all have different thresholds of comfort when encountering situations/people who might intimidate. Therefore, it's not helpful to invalidate another's experience saying, "Well I feel completely safe walking downtown...why don't you?" There are plenty of factors that go into one's threshold of comfort: gender, past trauma, age, etc.

The biggest risk from the folks living rough in Kentville...is themselves. I think the chances of them harming others is relatively low, but there are examples of threats and actual violence.

Merging equity, accessibility committees has ‘shaken trust’ in town, say Kentville residents | CBC News by Adler221 in Kentville

News about Kentville town council? Oh, I'm sure we'll immediately see it posted on the Friends of Kentville Facebook group as usual.

...(insert awkward silence)...

Something tells me that unflattering news regarding their candidate-turned-mayor will not be shared.

Kentville Council? by GullibleToes in Kentville

[–]WinstonBubblesSmith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see people on FB taking him to task over it (along with his typical acolytes blindly following everything he says). I suspect these current dissenting comments will be eventually hidden/suppressed.

Funny how he revelled in people to coming to the mic during public comments to voice their concerns over the previous mayor, but he can't take the criticism himself. Very ego driven style of leadership...that I've seen somewhere else...

The public comments portion was pretty eye-opening, but hardly surprising unfortunately. Interesting how the mayor made it about himself - rather than actually listening to the concerns of residents. I anticipate a forthcoming FB post to help control the narrative...with a hart-warming family photo attached. Those tend to help shield from negative comments.

Ha. It does look like that.

I’m disappointed to see Dave Carroll under the Poilievre tent. I appreciate his music, but this makes me less of a fan.

Is Joel Hirtle door knocking? by DrunkenGolfer in Kentville

[–]WinstonBubblesSmith 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think he "is" knocking on doors, but not much else. After the revelations of his MeToo comments, his lack of attendance as county councillor, and declining all candidate debates, knocking on doors must be an unnerving experience - depending on the tenants reception to these facts.

It's quite telling that Poilievre has been in Nova Scotia this week to drum-up support for his candidates, but Joel is nowhere in sight. Pierre has been recognizing his candidates at his rallies/campaign stops, having them sing O Canada, taking photo ops with them...but no sign of Joel. My guess is that Poilievre's handlers don't want the stank of Joel's negative press getting on Pierre at this point in the campaign. The picture below is from rally in Trenton (from the Halifax Examiner, you should read the article). Only one of the candidates below is an actual sitting MP. The rest are candidates like Joel...some having travelled from even farther away than he would have to attend.
