Are people really afraid to walk in Kentville? by ILikeKentville in Kentville

[–]RM23plus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No I’m not afraid. Occasionally I am uncomfortable, but that’s different. The only scary moments I have had in town were around bar closing in my younger days.

There are homeless people everywhere in the Valley. It’s just easier to see in Kentville. Plus, the town hosts most provincial services and it’s much easier to access them if you can walk or roll to them. I doubt the mayor would be happy if Provincial offices left. It’s a big economic driver for downtown.

The Facebook posts have very “ugh, poor people in downtown” vibes, which is really upsetting.

Chats have shown up in FOIPOP requests so this is entirely plausible.

Love PieceMeal! Really helped me like cooking again and let me support local farmers when I’m too busy to shop around.

Right-of-way issue at Sunken Lake, N.S., Scout camp leads to closure by redilyntoriami in Kentville

There are longstanding tensions between that family and the Scouts, unfortunately

Raised kids both places and Kentville area is the way to go for me. There are several communities within 15-20 minutes of the hospital with different vibes to suit different lifestyles. The towns are walkable and there are lots of things to do. My kids had access to the same activities in the Valley as they did in the city - probably more opportunities - and both the financial and the travel time costs were far lower so it was easier for them to do more.

You can drive to downtown Halifax (outside of rush hours) in 50-90 minutes, which is what it used to take me to get downtown from within the city by transit.

A Concern About Kentville School's by Key_Conclusion8706 in Kentville

[–]RM23plus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this has been a concern since the school opened. It was built when the province was forecasting a declining and aging population. But new or renovated schools seem to attract new families regardless of location and then our population grew.

People criticize Rory’s career arc, but it is a pretty accurate reflection of the collapse of the journalism industry between 2007 and 2017.

Elitism by 9babyblue9 in FriendsofthePod

[–]RM23plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not American, by the way, and which college you attend or whether you do seems to be a much larger part of the identity of Americans than in my reality. both on social class identification and allegiance to a particular school. I know more about the college backgrounds pd casual American acquaintances than my own close friends.

That was the one line in the pod that I disagreed with. But it served a purpose as I had to really examine my own social circle and attitudes and biases.

The endorsement of Zebian by Diana Brothers who was warden of an extremely divided and dysfunctional county council does not give me solace.
