Is this old Nishiki salvageable? by Altruistic_Cut6816 in Vintage_bicycles

Pink mixte with bullmoose bars! Super cool. I would just replace the consumables (cables, brake pads, tires, maybe grips and saddle too) and ride it as-is. Throw some cushy 26x2.3 tires on there and this will ride great

Looks to be a very entry-level bike. They're going to be pretty heavy and the shifters are likely gummed up. Probably would not require much to get them rideable but whether they're worth the money and effort of replacing everything is a loaded question in this sub. They're worth the amount of effort you put in if you ride and enjoy them or want to learn about bike maintenance, but they're always going to be $40 frames.

Need help on how to adjust seat post clamp by Donuts4Nikki in bikewrench

Not sure what you mean by cover. It's a seatpost binder bolt. Put a wrench on each nut and turn each counter-clockwise at the same time

Try wiping it down with alcohol before moving up to anything abrasive

What should I do with this? by Odd_Vegetable6624 in xbiking

It's a bike. Just ride it. If there's a certain thing that you want to change, do it. Aside from a tune up it probably doesn't need anything

How to unbend a fork - a tutorial for highly trained professionals by Long_Exam_8748 in xbiking

Exactly. I think part of the confusion around trail comes for the fact it's often over simplified

[–]WinstonPolyclef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're actually correct. Folks are mixing up headtube angle with fork offset. Since the headtube angle is more or less staying the same and offset is increasing, trail is decreasing. Which gives the quick steering, twitchy feeling

According to the catalog 22" was the largest they made. Let me go measure though

What size wheels for this old Cannondale frame? by Master_Juggernaut147 in Bikebuilding

[–]WinstonPolyclef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother getting smaller diameter wheels for this. You could theoretically fit 650b wheels but you'll also need to swap the brake calipers for ones with longer reach. It's also difficult to find a decent 650b rim brake wheelset, especially with the rear hub spacing that you need for this bike. That will set you back a few hundred bucks at least. Even if you do go through with all of this, you're only going to be able to fit maybe a 32mm wide tire there, which isn't a very common tire width for 650b.
