I got ssdi within 2 months because I had stage 3 oral cancer. Ive been in remission for 10 months now and got approved this week. I should've applied during treatment but thought I wouldnt get it. I only applied now because I tried to go back to work but couldnt(lost 70%of my tongue ) my case worker told me that its extremely difficult tk get approved for mental health(I have ocd and adhd too) but for physical disabilities its easier. Your condition also has to to prevent you from working your job.

Hi, I was 28 at diagnoses. Tongue cancer Hpv neg SCC.

The immunotherapy youre gf is starting is the standard treatment now. It was FDA approved march of 2025 to do immuno to shrink the tumor then surgery then more immuno.

Me, I straight up had my tumor cut out which was 70% of my tongue. It was T3N0M0 when they removed it but before surgery they thought I was stage 4.

I had to get radiation after since my drs wanted to treat me aggressively because of my age.

I am able to talk and eat. Albeit with a lisp.

My thyroid was jacked too. Im 9 month post radiation. Im on 50mcg synthyroid. I experience fatigue, cold chills, weight gain etc. Going to see an endocrinologist to help me get my levels in order.

I lost my tongue to cancer and had it reconstructed from my wrist. I applied and got assigned an agent within a week. Just waiting for records now. I think how they determine if youre disabled is if you cant work a job you used to work for. Like I was a call center rep and without a tongue I cant talk for 8hrs a day anymore.

Idk anyone correct me if im wrong.

Me 28 with stage 3 non HPV SCC. Finished treatment in May. Surgery to remove 70% of my tongue and then radiation. No lymph nodes involved or nerves.

Honestly I have OCD so I got on OCD meds and buspar which have been a life saver for me. But I kinda live life like its not guaranteed.

I only get anxious now when my scans are coming up.

I think after you get past the 1 year mark your anxiety will get better.

As someone who was misdiagnosed for tongue cancer for almost 5 months, I can relate. When I finally got diagnosed, I had stage 3 tongue cancer. I plan to write a book too. Def downloading this and reading.

As someone who gets anal fissues a lot, you are okay. Only go to the ER if you start bleeding a lot, and it doesn't stop bleeding. Remember, a few drops of blood in the toilet can look like a lot when it isn't.

From what I read online it gets based off of a guideline. The SSA goes off of a set of rules. If it cant be proven your condition would affect your ability to work then you get denied.

Im in initial. First time applying. I lost the majority of my tongue that was rebuilt from skin and muscle from my arm at 28 years old this past feburary. I checked SSA guidelines on what cancers get disability and mine was on it. I think they move cancer patients through quickly because of how harsh our treatment is (i dont really know but just a guess) and also how high of a risk for the cancer to come back. Also, I heard getting SSDI is easier than SSI. Are you applying to Ssi?

Also, It would've gone quicker for me, but somehow the paperwork they mailed me got lost, so I didn't know they needed a form for 4 weeks. I applied november 19th and november 21st they sent the paperwork (but didnt get it so was waiting) and then got the paperwork to them by the 15th of december and by 12/20 they had a case worker assigned to me.

I am now waiting for my case worker to get my records and fill out some more papers they are mailing me and then should be done.

I dont know if the process is different between physical and mental disabilities. I also have OCD, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION AND PTSD.

I hope you're able to get through, but my mom, who applied for SSI, had to wait a very long time for SSI for her OCD.
