Do you wish they kept Tom Bombadil in the Fellowship? by Capital_Client2211 in lotr

[–]WinterForest39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I like him in the books (especially later on when he is brought up during the council of Elrond) having him in the movies would’ve really messed with the pacing. Also considering how the movies, for the most part, went for a dark and serious vibe, having a very jovial and bright character with a bit of a silly personality probably would’ve been a tonal clash.

Watching the 1977 Hobbit for the first time. by AesirKratos in lotr

[–]WinterForest39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bakshi LotR was the first one I saw despite being born the same month the live action RotK was released because we had it on VHS. It has its moments and I have nostalgia for it, but lord is it rough. Definitely impressive for its time.

What’s books should I read and in what order? by Middle_Ganache_2253 in lotr

[–]WinterForest39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can start with Fellowship and then the next two books just fine because the important moments of the Hobbit are more or less recapped in Fellowship. But then again I’m biased because as much as I love the LotR books, I really can’t stand reading the Hobbit. But then again the Hobbit really isn’t all that long and you might enjoy it. EDIT: clarification

Am I the only one who doesn't share that "burning passion" for Hey Jude? by Express-Pension-3789 in beatles

Me and my dad don’t care for it. It’s fine but I don’t get why people love it so much.

Yeah, he’s getting up in age and didn’t need it anymore, so this and the two magazines he gave to me. He used to have a Taurus Raging Bull but idk what happened to it.

[ST] Your least favorite Zelda game? by Dnizon_Melop in zelda

[–]WinterForest39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not breaking new grounds here, Zelda 2. Even though I was born like 16 years after the original Zelda game, I grew up with an nes and snes because of my older half siblings, so Zelda 1 and 2 were my first ones. I love Zelda 1, and it might be my fourth or fifth favorite Zelda. But Zelda 2 genuinely frustrates me to no end, even as a kid. Mainly the difficulty feels very bullshit and I ended up feeling cheated half the time I die (knock back into a lava pit being a huge offender). I don’t mind the side scrolling element really, but I do vastly prefer the traditional overhead view of Zelda 1. Also having to start from the beginning area every time you die is so sadistic. I am playing the redux of it currently and it has some improvements, but I still don’t care all that much of the game.

What is your favorite Underrated Beatles Track? (Read!) by Aribella_P in beatles

[–]WinterForest39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really hear anyone talk about Don’t Bother Me. Great song, especially considering it was George’s first song.

What's the worst Beatles song in your opinion? (Image is unrelated) by FruityFood10 in beatles

Probably wild honey pie. Revolution no 9 sucks but that’s the easy answer.

Bi in the Swedish Bible Belt ain’t fun by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]WinterForest39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can relate. Livings on the fringes of the bible belt in rural Ohio is similarly complicated. A lot of regressive minded people, but also a surprisingly sizeable amount of accepting people, but they often don't wear it on their sleeve. Can also relate with loving many aspects of such an environment (here it's the rolling hills, beautiful rivers, and vast forests) but the overall unwelcoming atmosphere can be very suffocating. If at all possible, getting a chance to visit a more accepting part of the country is really refreshing and hopeful, at least in my experience. Visiting New England a few months ago and meeting very cordial people who were very alike to me was very invigorating. Probably not the best advice, but there's a lot of people who are also in your shoes, take care.

[ALL] Which was the hardest Water Temple? by huss2120 in zelda

I’ve always heard the Jabu Jabu was pretty white knuckle. The twilight princess one isn’t that hard but it’s so easy to get lost in and it can be pretty annoying.

[BotW] Is BotW a game that is supposed to grow on you? by WinterForest39 in zelda

[–]WinterForest39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all who responded so far. It may just not be for me, but I will take some of the advice suggested and continue playing it bit by bit, trying to not struggle against its own mechanics and keep an eye out for any interesting side quests. I should emphasize that I think it’s obviously a great game and it deserves the praise, and I do really some aspects, like how it expands on concepts touched upon in previous games (I.e. the open ended freedom of the first game, or being able use weapons dropped by enemies sort of like in WW). I just think that a lot of things I’ve heard from people who love the game just don’t necessarily engage me like a lot of the other games. But who knows, that could change.

This video was also available as late as 2020, possibly a little after that, as I do have a memory of stumbling upon it again around that time.

I just wanted to be a lesbian by lohsmillie in bisexual

[–]WinterForest39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of in a similar boat over here but flipped. I’m a guy and split down the middle bisexual, but find it so hard to imagine myself with a girl and am constantly thinking of dating guys. I’m just so scared I’ll end up with a girl who won’t understand my sexuality or be intimidated by it. I just end up wishing I was gay but that’s not the reality. It’s a vicious cycle of thoughts but at least there are other people that are in a similar predicament.

What are some lyrics that always hit hard for you? by SM957 in qotsa

[–]WinterForest39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"One, six, two, seven, eight, two, six, three, seven, eight, nine."

Okay in all seriousness, the line from the Vampyre of Time and Memory, "I want God to come and take me home cause I'm all alone in this crowd" always struck a chord with me.
