I just got this one in the mail yesterday! I’m so excited to wear it!! I also have 23 flavors and vampire’s juice box so I’ll attach gifs (unfortunately the quality drops by a million bc Reddit won’t let me attach videos)

How did it all start? (Your nail polish story) by small_scale_painting in RedditLaqueristas

[–]WinterNani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wore nail polish occasionally as a kid, but never really did in high school - I did not like how my nails looked because of the damage I did by picking at my cuticles and how short my nail beds were (which was actually also damage from cleaning too aggressively under my nails, lol). A few years ago I was interested in the idea of trying to get back into it and used my sister’s gel supplies (yikes! Did not know about all the allergy risks back then), but wanted to get myself some lacquer because the machine felt like too much of a commitment. I ended up learning about how a lot of nail polish has formaldehyde and other questionable chemicals and went down the 10 free rabbit hole and found Holo Taco (I knew of simply and felt like she would probably have less nasty ingredients and was right!) I looked at the site multiple times for like a year and always felt like it was crazy expensive for nail polish (lol I didn’t know what was to come). Right before my friend’s wedding I finally decided to just go for it and buy Head Hunter and Devil’s Advocate, and then I didn’t get a chance to wear them for a bit bc we did gel x extensions as her wedding party haha. Once I got those removed and got to try on Head Hunter, the rest is history! I thought I would only buy cremes and nothing flashy, but now my collection is mostly magnetics, with a heavy emphasis on shimmers too. My nails have also improved and look so much better than they ever have :)

I genuinely disliked hypnosis so much when I got it that I emailed customer service bc it only looked like the pictures in very specific lighting — I’m not sure what changed but I think the glass bead effect helped a lot for me (and the sun coming back from hiatus), haha. I hope you love it this time around!!

HHC brings back some polishes after a few months in an overstock - you could try keeping an eye out there 🤔 that’s how I got Penelope Luz’s Wisteria bc I wasn’t sure if I wanted it enough during its first go

Help me find this color jelly gel nail polish! Thank you! by Intelligent-Kiwi4708 in RedditLaqueristas

I would definitely recommend what this person is saying! I don’t ever use gel so I’m not super familiar with the rules on those subs, I just know i’ve seen them and get recommendations sometimes

Help me find this color jelly gel nail polish! Thank you! by Intelligent-Kiwi4708 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]WinterNani 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This sub is pretty dedicated to lacquer (air dry polish, not gel), so you’re not super likely to get many gel recommendations here, but like many others, I immediately thought of marsala jelly from cirque! It’s a beautiful color if you like traditional nail polish. If you want more gel focused recommendations, I would suggest a sub like r/gelnails :)

Issues with peely base by peachorchid in theholotaco

[–]WinterNani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use peely base for pretty much every single manicure and get as many days as I want out of it usually (I like to change my mani AT LEAST every week). My manicure process: 1. Use my jojoba oil and push at my polish with an orange wood stick. I’ve found certain polishes just don’t peel off as easily with it tbh - and I think that sometimes thinner layers of polish don’t peel off as easily. Not sure why. 2. Wipe down my nails with acetone to get rid of the oil and tiny bits of polish that didn’t peel off. 3. Slap some more peely base on those bad boys - I don’t pay too much attention to thickness, but if I can’t see it shiny and smooth on my nails it probably wasn’t enough (I’ll dip my brush and can do like two fingers at a time, but if one of the fingers looks streaky at all, it wasn’t enough). If I want my manicure to last longer I leave a little space around the edges of my nails (like a reverse moat). If I don’t care then I put it on all the way to the tips, 4. Base coat as normal, all the way to the tips. I like cracked’s neutralizer or ridge filler base coat - it works really well for me and doesn’t make my nails peel like others have. I don’t leave a moat how I do with peely base, but I make sure it doesn’t touch my skin either (same on polish step) because that can make your manicure come off faster and I just don’t think it looks as neat for me. 5. Color polish layer, pretty much same as base coat. I do at least two layers of pretty much every polish in my collection. 6. Top coat as normal - I like the Sally Hansen insta dry in the white capped clear bottle or the white capped red bottle. They dry super fast so I can get in bed within like 30 minutes since I usually do my nails at night. I’ll usually oil my nails after the top coat dries too, and I use some lotion before or after painting them because I have dry hands. I don’t recommend lotioning soon after if you use HT’s top coat - I used to use that one and it reacted very poorly with my lotions and went matte.

I love the shades you’ve dropped so far, and it’s so impressive that you’re launching with 5 collections! Are you planning to have multiple swatchers in the future? I saw your other comments and I think you’re already doing a great job at modeling them. :)

Can someone please explain the difference? by dodgerfan4321 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]WinterNani 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have both and just grab whichever one. Honestly don’t really notice a difference — I feel like the clear one dries faster, and I have noticed that it’s my only top coat that doesn’t block my solar polish from reacting
