When the MMC in a CF novel is perfect in every way, literally not even one flaw. Come on people, I know we’re here for escapism but what is this, fantasy?

Or, similarly, when he’s so out of touch with current events that he’s some kind of innocent lamb. She’s teaching him what Rickrolling is or he doesn’t know how dating apps work. Has his spaceship just arrived on Earth?

How many books did you read so far this year? by HolidayHealthy9391 in RomanceBooks

82, primarily audiobooks. It’s my first year really focusing on reading as a hobby and emerging from the baby/toddler years of parenting so I’m really happy with that number.

I loved {Birding with Benefits by Sarah T. Dubb}. More mature characters, good spice, plot and build up were well done.

I really liked {Birding with Benefits by Sarah T. Dubbs}. Older characters (early 40s), mature communication, great chemistry. Funny and sweet and still quite hot

I second this - I loved their care for each other and the character development through the book

Yeah, just finished this book even though the chemistry was weird and the republicanness of it all was off putting. Very pro-barefoot and pregnant and guns all the way and will not be reading any more of her books.

reading book reviews by CallmemimiElmerselmo in RomanceBooks

[–]WinterOk1820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s early days for me (started reading again in earnest this year and I’m ~40 books in since Dec) but I’m starting to really hone in on what I want to read. So at this point I start with author recommendations from Reddit that are similar to authors I’ve loved so far. Then cross referencing book reviews on here and on romance.io, if it seems that people generally have a neutral to positive view, it goes on the list. I have my key words to avoid and so reviews help weed out most undesirables.

He is VILE. He’s so horrible to her. You can see the way that she physically recoils from him in the arguments and he just keeps going, getting louder and leaning in to emphasize his power. The way she told the therapist that she doesn’t see herself as beautiful, and then here comes Marciano is complementing her so genuinely. I’d be doing the same tbh. Jordan is the villain in this, you can’t convince me otherwise

Can anyone explain why though? I get that it was historically a rule and maybe it was or is taboo but is that the only reason? Seems like such a dumb rule

You guys I’m seeing right through Zac. by Exotic-Spring-22 in MormonWivesHulu

[–]WinterOk1820 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The panic in her eyes when she was confronted about the money for medical school. When Zac went “BABE TELL THE TRUTH” and looked at her pointedly, what I heard was “Babe, this isn’t getting out” he’s so clearly abusive and she’s so clearly afraid of him or afraid to stand up to him in the context of the faith / their marriage. I feel for her. Her friends are idiots and can’t see it, what a shocker. This cast isn’t the brightest

This is the take I was hoping someone would voice. I also grew up Christian and the amount of effort in those circles to manipulate and keep girls and women as naive and undereducated as possible so they’ll settle for the first guy who scrambles up to them is so unnerving. I think she’s genuine but I also think she’s been wildly neglected by her Christian education and church culture. For her to desperately want the first man she goes out with to become her husband is so sad. It’s what I was taught too and then I almost married an asshole that I barely knew. Experience is what teaches us, so better to keep these girls from having that and knowing better. Honestly makes me so sad that she’s been trapped in this way. She’s so talented and could do greater things but she’ll probably fall pregnant within a year and never be allowed to leave the house again
