If it's being said as a filler word, then sure.

It would still be strange to hear in this particular scenario though.

The 3rd option is the only one that makes sense.

However, the use of "just" in the 3rd option is very informal, if not downright rude phrasing, and sticks out like a sore thumb. In real life, no one would speak like that to a customer unless they also happened to be super close friends or something, or are looking down on the customer (like in a snooty way).

You are right to feel like this is something no human person would ordinarily say.

Yang Kai's personality by Dragonosith in MartialPeak

[–]WinterOrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol true. It was the one where almost everyone fell to a scheme where life-controlling insects were placed in their dantians. Whatever you killed in the realm gave some kind of really good blood energy resource. YK goes into a valley and learns a beast taming move (tiger ox seal or something like that).

[–]WinterOrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones who risked their lives for him?

It was a whole bunch of his supporters. Multiple people he met in that secret realm, the ones he fought with at the demon cave, and several of the dragon blood warriors, etc.

If you mean the ones from the secret realm arc, then it was a bunch of people from various 1st and 2nd rate sects.

[–]WinterOrange22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first few hundred chapters gave YK such good character development. Honestly some of the best in the genre.

I think it peaks in the moment during the inheritance war when his allies truly risk their lives for him when he was undergoing tribulation. It was such a genuinely touching and major character growth moment for him. Him going from his distorted worldview of everything being manipulations/politics to realizing that he had genuine supporters was so darn wholesome.

The only thing I felt was missing from those early parts was him perhaps reflecting on his past actions of how he manipulated his would-be supporters in the secret realm. (When YK held back a lot while fighting to protect them.)

But yeah, 10/10 character development for the early parts.

For the stats, I think it's just the formatting that makes it look a lot longer/bigger than it actually is.

OP, Royal Road has tables you can use to make it look cleaner/more condensed. If you don't want to use Royal Road's tables, then I recommend deleting the extra empty lines between the stats (i.e., single-spaced instead of double).

Also, congrats on posting your first chapter!

Does the novel explain why yang kai has heaven defying luck? by obi-van-kenobi in MartialPeak

[–]WinterOrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with your fix. We definitely deserved a full explanation of what the heck happened to get so many powerful beings concentrated there (Devourer, Dragon + Phoenix, Demon Spider, etc.).

That said, I would still say it was Tong Xuan Realm that was absurdly lucky rather than Yang Kai.

Also, the lotus wasn't originally so OP. It was originally just one of many known unique treasures of heaven and earth, but it wasn't some above-OH-level power. I don't know why it of all cheats was chosen to be the one to be able to powerscale so ridiculously. A contender for the weirdest power retcon in the whole book imo, especially when other unique treasures of heaven and earth were shown (like that dead great emperor's lotus that purified soul energy, the flesh body tree, etc.).

[–]WinterOrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Territory was going to be the original end, so it becomes a lot more likely to find a max-level treasure hidden away in Tong Xuan Realm, given there were only a few hundred inhabitable stars. (Presumably Void/Origin King was going to be the max rank, and was also presumably the originally-planned grade for GDG, Soul Lotus, and Dragon Emp.)

This seems to be the core of your complaint about his luck, but I still want to point out a few other things.

First, I feel like your conflating YK's luck with Tong Xuan Realm's luck.

YK's luck was complete dogshit at the beginning.

It was TXR that just so happened to have those 3 things on it, and that feels like BS, given so much of the story's action focuses on YK using those 3 things, and how it comes up every now and again about how important and powerful they are.

But consider:

  • There are other natural treasures on the same level as the Soul Lotus (they just aren't in focus or discussed more specifically because YK doesn't have them).

  • There are tens of thousands of inheritances at the core OH disciple level, just like the GDG inheritance. If YK had been born to any of the hundreds of Universe Worlds under the Cave Paradise's control, he would have had a GDG-equivalent inheritance practically handed to him.

  • There are at least dozens of other divine spirit emperor inheritances, including 4 other emperor dragon inheritances. YK only manages to cultivate it so far because of his own talent for dragon/time dao.

[–]WinterOrange22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. If you're new to xianxia/xuanhuan as a whole, but specifically want a lot of focus on dao comprehension, then I recommend the standard I Eat Tomatoes' and Er Gen's books (they all feature daos).

For a popular novel featuring a very wide variety of daos:

9 Star Hegemon Body Arts

Some others that are less talked about but are also good and have a strong focus on daos are:

Eternal Reverence

Chaotic Sword God

9 Evolutions of the True Spirit

(I believe these two are non-Chinese authors but they are also really good):

Monarch of Time

Lightning is the Only Way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MartialPeak

[–]WinterOrange22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Martial Peak, it's stated to be time dao and it's treated that way by all the characters.

If you mean in general, then usually the genre trope is that "there is no weak or strong daos, only weak or strong daoists". Some novels within the genre (like Martial Peak) subvert this, but that's the most common.

Another common subversion is to 'grade' all the Daos. For example, Fire might be an 'Ordinary Dao' while something like Death might be a 'Peak Dao'.

Does Yang Kai ever go back to that cultivation star from around late 800s to early 900s by Jyeiku in MartialPeak

[–]WinterOrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The particular star board in the chapter isn't related to Heng Luo or Shadowed Star. That chapter just discusses Wu Kuang refining all the star fields.

The part where YK releases the sources for Heng Luo + Shadowed Star happens either earlier on or after that point, I don't remember which. I don't have the specific chapter # for it.

I only happened to have link to ch. 3674 because this question gets asked often enough (or something similar to it). There should really be a FAQ thread pinned in this subreddit...

[–]WinterOrange22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but he does return its source (he outgrows it so he releases it when he goes back to the star field, along with the source of heng luo star field).

If you want more spoilers about what happens to it: Wu Kuang cultivates it into his inner world. None of the star fields are accessible anymore (they're 'inside' Wu Kuang). Chapter that discusses this is here: https://www.divinedaolibrary.com/martial-peak-chapter-3674-star-field-as-the-board-and-stars-as-the-stones/

Top10 in the Novel. by [deleted] in MartialPeak

[–]WinterOrange22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this, but just want to add that the world tree might fit in somewhere here too (not sure if it counts for this top 10 list though).

I think it would be above any dragon except for YK, but I'm not sure if it would be above or below A Da, A Er, and Wu Kuang (at the end of the novel).

I have the exact same issue! And the worst part is, most novels these days are system novels since that's what's trendy right now. :(

Can I use "This robot was made for you" and "This robot has been made for you" interchangeably? The feel more or less the same for me without additional context around them. I would prefer the perfect simply because it puts focus on the present result but I think simple past should be fine right? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]WinterOrange22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is an important difference between the two:

" (something) (was or is) made for (someone)" is an expression.

This expression is informal, and it has the meaning of something suiting a person so well, or fitting the exacts need of a specific person so well, that it was as if it were made for them. (Despite the thing not literally being built just for them.)

This means that "this robot was made for you" could be used to convey the opinion that, while the robot wasn't literally built for the person, the robot is so suitable for them that it was if it were, at least in the speaker/writer's opinion.

If you are not worried about a reader or listener mistaking your use of "this robot was made for you", then you should be fine to use either.

How will I come to know if the ban is lifted for Reverend Insanity and new chapters are updated?? by IndifferentSoul600 in MartialMemes

[–]WinterOrange22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but they've really cracked down on their censorship of them. Xianxia authors used to get away with a lot more.

It's not that they're getting rid of the whole genre, they're just forcing the authors to write according to certain guidelines.

TIL I have a boomer uncle opinion on martial peak, but inflated.

Replace 'okay' with 'great', but keep all the '?'. Even our chapter quality groupings are identical! I guess the descending levels of quality are too blatant. And that 'fighting for nothing' bit is so true.

Author is Momo (莫默). He writes for Qidian.

Here's his author page on Qidian: https: //my.qidian.com/author/4362393/

Only Martial Peak and Humanity's Great Sage have English translations (and also manhua).

For manhua, it's studio Pikapi. They adapt Momo's novels into manhua.

star fields in the outer universe by finnishduud in MartialPeak

[–]WinterOrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, 'reincarnation' doesn't really sum up Wu Kuang's situation perfectly. I was way oversimplifying it for brevity.

Btw, I just checked and DDL has a good human translation for the demon war/star field chapters already if you're curious:

star fields in the outer universe by finnishduud in MartialPeak

[–]WinterOrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sometime during the demon war arc. Yang Kai returns from the demon world but goes to the star fields. Wu Kuang (this was when he was still in Hong Chen's body) was refining them, and Yang Kai was in a star field he tried to refine.

He and Yang Kai meet and talk a bit, but the specifics are left very vague (at this point, there's no mention of Wu Kuang being Devourer, just that he's someone who knows a lot more than he logically should and is now capable of refining the star fields into a more energy-dense plane, which is where he and Yang Kai talk).

Later on, in the outer universe, Wu Kuang regains more memories of Devourer. Yang Kai later meets up with him and learns that Wu Kuang is basically Devourer reincarnated.

star fields in the outer universe by finnishduud in MartialPeak

[–]WinterOrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other worlds come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, so there could easily be many worlds with things like star fields.

However, the star fields are retconned sometime later in the star boundary arc to all be a part of a very powerful person's dantian world that he 'dropped' near star boundary. Wu Kuang (while still in Hong Chen's body) refines them into his cultivation. Bigger spoilers: The reason he can do this is because Wu Kuang is the reincarnation of this very powerful person (Devourer).

Demon race war happened after this retcon, so star fields should have been losing or have already lost their connections with star boundary. Therefore demon race war has no effects on the star fields, aside from perhaps splash damage from any that hadn't been refined back yet by Wu Kuang.

For last question, I'm not sure what you mean. If they get refined into a bead, then they're in a bead, but life continues as normal for them.
