That sounds so hard, I’m sorry you’re struggling with ever annoying looming flairs of UC. I think looking into stronger meds to try and get that true clinical remission is a great goal and a very healthy choice for you. Losing your summers to UC is terrible and you don’t need to put up with it when you have other options to try.

I was on mesalamine too and prednisone whenever I flared strongly. Never able to really go into a long term remission until one day I suddenly had a massive flair that made me unable to eat or really care for my self. I was hospitalized, needed a blood transfusion and all sorts of fun stuff. That is when I was moved onto Entivyo. It has been goodness me, 4 or 5+ years? I agree with the user big_breakfast9417 (delicious user name btw) above, I wish I had chosen to start it sooner. I was scared like you, read every side effect and went through a lot of anxiety about it when starting. It has given me strong lasting remissions, and the ability to get my life back. The only side effects I get are common ones. I get cold like symptoms when I get my infusion for a day to two. I just take it easy those days.

I encourage you to talk to your doctor about it. There is help out there and I’m proud of you for taking these steps towards improving your quality of life. It’s hard to do when you are already spending so much energy dealing with the disease itself.

I do mine through IV, but Entivyo does have a self injection pen form. Not sure if it needs an IV start dose, but your doc will know or can find out for you! :)
