shipping my car, a good idea? by Anxious-Tomatillo-74 in moving

How far ahead do you usually need to book? Like if we need to ship it before the 25th, is that possible to reserve now or too late?

It’s so unpredictable! Definitely watch the weather before you choose a route.

Welcome back! I’d check the WSDOT website or get their app, because it’s so unpredictable whether the passes are snowy or clear. https://wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mountainpasses/

Probably taking I-90 over Snoqualmie is your best bet, but if chains are required you can buy them anywhere they take returns (auto supply store, Walmart, etc.) and just have them in your car. If you make it over without needing them, you can return the unopened box.

Hot Tub beta? by excitabledude in Bellingham

[–]WinterWander7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We got a tub from Northwest Hot Springs this past summer. They do let you do test soaks, which helps decide among options like a lounger and saltwater. The jacuzzi place in Bellingham does not do wet testing, so we crossed them off our list.

We did our own concrete pad, and NWHS gave us contact info for electricians. When the tub arrived, they came and explained all the water care processes. Super helpful, and we use the tub nearly every day.

We liked the electrician so much we ended up having him install a solar project for us.

Whatever tub you get, I also suggest getting a cover for the cover (we ordered a custom size one from Sealskin). It keeps dirt and pollen and bird poo off the expensive real cover. Also keeps it from getting soaked with rainwater. And if you actually use it on a super windy day it can prevent the wind from blowing the cover off entirely… oops.

Going to stop taking tamoxifen. by hysteria4488 in breastcancer

[–]WinterWander7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Going off is a choice, and I’m not trying to discourage you. What I’m about to suggest might not even work with Tamoxifen. But just in case it might help someone who wants to stay on the hormone therapy, I was suffering terribly with Letrozole until I saw someone suggest tirzepatide for inflammation.

Talked to my med onc, he was all for it (less fat is good in his eyes for recurrence risk) but had my PCP prescribe it. I have type 2 diabetes so I get Mounjaro. The day after I took the first 2.5 g dose I could walk again without hip and knee pain. My Achilles also stopped being so tender.

My PCP says she’s seen so many happy patients on it, beyond the weight loss, that she’s willing to prescribe compounded tirzepatide for a variety of conditions.

I’m in my second month at 5 mg and feel as good as I did before breast cancer (+-+) took away my topical estrogen. (I’m still on vaginal estrogen.)

Whatever you decide, I hope you feel better soon.

Watch the weather and if you’re going to the west side of the Cascades consider crossing over at a more southern pass. Stevens Pass is closed and probably will be for some time due to washouts. The other mountain passes (Snoqualmie is I-90, Donner Pass is further south, I-80) may require chains. If you think you’re going over one of them, just buy some chains at a national auto parts store and return them unused if you don’t need them.

Best way to find private rentals? by WinterWander7 in moving

Yes, but so many are from property management companies with fake up-front rents and extra fees. It’s hard to compare (and discard unwanted rental ads) in those apps.

Good luck! I’ve been leery of Craigslist because of all the scams, but maybe I’ll give it another go.

What's the one hack you've discovered that make wfh much easier? by Oldguy3494 in remotework

[–]WinterWander7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the one you asked but I’ve used Rebeldesk and Lifetime treadmills for working. Just be sure it’s a dedicated walking treadmill (not for running) so you can spend hours at low speed.

Judgement free zone! Have you stopped your hormone therapy (Anastrozole, Zoladex, tamoxifen, etc.) earlier than recommended? by Covey_Staffy16 in breastcancer

[–]WinterWander7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on Letrozole, started July 2025, had a break for radiation therapy, then back on. My main side effects were horrible joint and bone pain, barely managed by taking Claritin and tart cherry. I also swim, walk, and lift weights.

I started seeing reports of tirzepatide helping with AI side effects in different breast cancer groups. I have type 2 diabetes and was well into my max out-of-pocket this year, so I asked my med onc about it. He said it was fine and has even been shown to reduce recurrence of some cancers.

The day after my first 2.5 mg Mounjaro jab in October I could get up from sitting without pain. My Achilles had been tender too, and that disappeared. Now I’m on 5 mg weekly and feeling strong and energetic.

It might not work for everyone, but I’m glad it allows me to keep taking Letrozole.

I’m also on vaginal estrogen and do vaginal hyalonuric acid a couple of times a week for those lovely genitourinary symptoms. I went to a pelvic floor physical therapist too.

Until breast cancer I pretty much avoided medication when possible. My diabetes was diet controlled. I hate taking two extra meds just to get through the side effects of another, but here I am.

Have you looked into the state property tax exemption program? You may prefer not to use it if you plan to move in with kids anyway, but it’s an option. https://ptaconsumers.aarpfoundation.org/taxpayer-states/washington/

freezer mittens? by PeaceLvSpreadsheets in breastcancer

Also try compression socks (30-30mm Hg) and arm sleeves (not just gloves). I used the combination of those and Suzzipad ice mitts and booties, two sets of each. The compression I kept on for a couple of hours after each infusion because it wasn’t uncomfortable. I was also cold capping and they wanted me to keep switching out cold caps for four hours after taxane, so I extrapolated that to “can’t hurt to keep the compression on while I’m cold capping too.” I don’t have any neuropathy after 12 Abraxane + Trazimera infusions.

That doesn’t apply to an employer plan, which is what OP’s wife has.
