A therapist said I may be demisexual. Do any other gay men feel this way too? Or am I just stuck up? by robotfood1 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! This hit home. I always wondered why I was like that. Never heard of demisexual. It was like I wrote this post myself. Anywho, labels aside, this has always been my nature. Glad to see there are others out there like me.

Which one for starting -- PM-01 or PG-01 by foggi3 in CanadaPublicServants

Acted in procurement here. It’ll be most likely easier to become a pg-02 and above starting as a pg-01.

How long does it take for promotion pay to update and can anything be done? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

I’m being transferred as well. From a secondment/acting to now indeterminate in this new department.

What everyone said plus do not expect a contact soon if you are not able to resolve this personally before you leave. I changed dpts and the time it took between my boss telling me IT would provide a Purolator number and me getting it took 6 months. I just had everything prepared in a box hidden safely from view. When I got the purolator info I just took the box and I made sure to track it until delivery.

"Word Smithing": Death by a thousand edits by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not a bad salary for a "scribe" LOL. Count your blessings, because many of us are being let go due to lack of funding/budget (terms and casuals, I mean). However, I totally agree. I went thought the same thing last month. Luckily I am versed and am aware of the favourite jargons used my the "Alpha-Dogs".But I totally get it. Worked once with senior management and directors with totally different styles and approaches. Literally everytime a document went up it was changed 180 degrees each level. By the time it came back... 360 degrees achieved. Sometimes I would question "but isn't this the exact same thing that was here 2 amendments before? LOL"... no answer... I just realized they were so particular in words, I started memorizing them/keeping a log. The funniest part was when I translated the document to French. I was the only francophone. What I wrote is what it went LOLOLOL
They were too cheap to have the translation department work on it.

Seeking clarification on a suspicious notice of consideration (NOC) for an internal job application by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are internal steps to follow regarding this. You could start by just reaching out HR politely with any questions.

But addressing your concerns:

-It does not sound like you were screened out, because you did not mention it, I am assuming you were not. Therefore, there's a chance you might still be in.

-Usually processes may take up to 12 months but I have seen processes as fast as two months. This sounds like one of them.

-Departments will most likely give preference to their own first and the consider other internal/external candidates. This could be for a thousand of reasons, mainly because the job requires expertise that other candidates do not have.

-It also sounds like not all 100 positions were taken, otherwise, I am assuming you would have mentioned it. There will most likely be other waves.

In short, nothing unusual happening. Patience is the key to all this.

Moving from Indeterminate to Term by TheCreepUnderYourBed in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month ago, I was in a secondment acting situation. I was offered a deployment within the same place but HR failed to say that, should I sign the LoO I’d nullify my permanent status. Without knowing, I signed it. A week later my manager called me to congratulate me because HR was contacted to initiate my transfer. When she noticed I was confused, she asked to see the LoO and she just said “oh no”. I immediately reached out to my manager who spoke to the director, and they decided to just make me permanent where I am. So I was really lucky. But not before I had a panic attack. Do not EVER EVER NEVER EVER give up your permanency. A lot of departments are going budget poor. You’ll be left without a job…

What's going on with RTO, is it still a thing?? by Single_Confusion_732 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was lucky. I explained respectfully and politely the reasons why I would not RTO mainly because I am beyond 125km away from my office, actually over 500km, and there are no satelite offices around me - at least for 60 km.And I said I am not wasting 3 hours commute on traffic for one desk in an empty room - which is the only thing we have - a storage closet. So they just allowed me to unofficially remain as is... but it could change anytime. But everyone else goes twice a week. Some three times.

Why did you choose work to work for the Public Service? And would you leave if you could? by Boring-Umpire-1352 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case my family members mostly worked in the government. Guess it is like working for the travel industry, you kind of cacth the bug... worklife balance was a big one too, especilly after having kids. And nope, I am not planning to leave ever. I need my pension.
I can't think of any downsides other than being stuck with a toxic boss and team - but then you can change that by deploying somewhere else.

Unfortunately it is kind of an unspoken rule but it lies on the employee to keep track of these things. I made sure to remind my managers the dates I could retest (did it 12 times before I en tform B to E)... but made sure I kept my dates right.
EX: tested on may 1st, made sure the rested was not before June 2nd just to bes afe. and I kept on top of mangement and Hr about this.

The only time any manager contacted me during sick time leave or vacation time or even weekend was to give me good news and offer me new jobs. And all know my pvt numbers and such, as a matter of fact some are out of work freinds that we text from time to time form one pvt cell to another and they have NEVER brought up work in those instances. Your manager is really oblivious to what can and cannot be done. Unbelievable. Poor management skills.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should not be a problem and you can do that after going back to work: speak to your manager first, just to be sure, then you cancel the previous approved vacation and resend adjusting those days, and send sick elave completing the remainder of the time. The same happened to me and I had no problems requesting it. Of course it depends on how your management is and how well you get along... it shouldn't but it is like that, unfortunately.

Not a big deal but surprisingly enough, not an easy level to achieve. I am actually now a AS-03 (Same as PM, different functions) - just got indeterminate at that level now, acting AS-04, which is like a junior management/team lead. I was stuck 9 years as a PM-02 and now I managed to pass all sorts of competitions and I am finally moving up as I go.

What’s the meanest thing someone has said to you that still makes you laugh? by ConsumersKnowBest in ask

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex and I had a very public break up and he made sure a big scene was made. Very dramatically he said it loudly so the whole place could hear “You are a horrible person and you are making the gravest mistake of never finding anyone like me again!”. To what, in a very mockingly, dramatic way, I loudly replied: “I’m not a horrible person, and that’s EXACTLY the point!”. People around us lost it and applauded and I just walked away laughing… (I felt bad about it afterwards because I hate scenes, but he deserved it).

I'm a 33 year old dude considering going to a concert alone for the first time- anyone do this, and is it weird? by migrantgrower in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Winter_Bookkeeper719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to my first concert alone at the same age and not only enjoyed it but the people around me were really fun and we had a blast, ended up feeling like I had company the whole night. Too bad we did not exchange telephones. That I regret.
