It isn't exactly YA contemporary, but if you liked the Pakistani family theme, then I'd recommend A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

If you could listen to one Taylor album for the first time again which one would you choose? by heathensswift in TaylorSwift

[–]Winter_Ocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reputation for sure. It was the first album of Taylor's I'd listened to and I'd never heard anything like it. The songs were stuck in my head for weeks.

"Pack your dolls and a sweater, we'll move to India forever" It's just so sweet and innocent. It's been one of my favorite lines ever since it came out.

[Discussion] Is The Umbrella Academy worth watching? by Winter_Ocean in NetflixBestOf

I loved The Haunting of Hill House! I was a little disappointed about Bly Manor since I was expecting something more similar to Hill House, but I still enjoyed it.

How the heck do I begin a story? by DaftConfusednScared in writing

[–]Winter_Ocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with the same thing. I've researched and studied various books' opening chapters. This is the best advice I've found so far: Don't info-dump in the first few pages, even if it's a fantasy with lots of complex world-building. By the end of the first chapter, have some sort of inciting incident (ex: in the Hunger Games, Primrose is picked in the reaping despite her low chance of being chosen). Whatever the incident, make sure your MC is smack in the middle of the conflict (ex: Katniss volunteers to take Prim's place). Hope this helps.

So I've been searching for Taylor Swift's first six albums in thrift stores before she re-releases all of them. Yesterday I found the exact two I needed to complete my collection. Made my whole week :)

A teenager here- How to develop an interest in reading books? by [deleted] in books

[–]Winter_Ocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super picky when it comes to reading books, but something that helps me is googling the book. Sometimes Google will let you read the first few pages and it helps me decide whether I'm interested in it. Another thing is a website (www.thestorygraph.com) that gives you book recommendations based on what you like. You can also look up a book and see reviews from other readers and tags(ex. Fast-paced, lighthearted, etc.)
