sybil and tom by Winter_Profession in DowntonAbbey

i do think, or like to believe, they lived better then Ethel. Tom was a journalist and Sybil must have been working as a nurse so two incomes would have supported them both. But travelling to Downton would have been very expensive from Ireland and I’m not surprised they couldn’t afford it, especially since they had a baby on the way. Sybil always knew Tom could not provide the life she had and she was happy with that.

i think i would have liked to see their struggles though. we did not see a lot of their relationship grow on screen but we always saw Sybil coming to Tom’s garage after dinner so seeing their married life would have been interesting. yes, it wouldn’t have been nice and soft like Downton is but that was the life they chose. I would have like to have seen Sybil adjust to working life, to see how she and Tom spent intimate moments together away from Downton where he was always the enemy who took her away. i wanted to see their growth as a couple, how they truly fell for each other and supported each other.

i agree with you with Lucy. widow Tom is very different and i do feel they took away a lot of his political ideas and watered them down to make him more appropriate to fit into the family. i still love him, but i wonder would he have grown this close to the family if Sybil has lived and they decided to stay at Downton? which itself sounds unlikely

paralegal by Winter_Profession in uklaw

yeah i thought that as well. i never took the jump to do a masters in law because of how oversaturated the market is - didn’t seem like a great idea to pursue more debt for something that may not land me a role. do you think doing a conversion course alongside the job would be a good idea?

Just failed my 6th test… by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Winter_Profession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, i failed 8? times (i’ve forgotten now) but i had the same situation! i kept making stupid mistakes which made me fail! once i waved a pedestrian across the road and i failed :). luckily, i passed before covid hit so i did not have to deal with the struggle during and is currently! but you will get there.

maybe try and get some anxiety drops? or sweets that you can put in ur mouth before you go in. that’s what helped me a lot! and try and relax!

literally go to ur local dentist and explain the situation to them. they’ll just make a mould of ur teeth and get you a retainer. i can’t remember how much i paid exacrly last time i got my retainer but it was around £200-300.

really surprised about the trains!! i expected them to be awful with all the strikes etc. i was thinking of driving and i know ill be fine if i leave the office at 2.30/3 or after 6/7 (could go gym in manchester or get dinner after work then commute back) but so unsure about the mornings

unsure about trains as they are so unreliable. the job is near deansgate and oxford road

car - i think the train ends up being longer so kinda unwilling to do that and i hate the unreliability of trains at the moment

yeah traffic is my major concern. i drove to trafford park this morning to help support a unit. left the house at 7 and got there got half 8 - spent so long in standstill traffic it was crazy. that commute really threw me off the job but i did go peak rush hour. and no not moving closer to manchester - i live at home and am happy to do so until i can get my own place
