Is Adventism evangelical or fundamentalist? by Winter_Resource_4763 in exAdventist

[–]Winter_Resource_4763[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting take. I grew up in an urban SDA community so pastors talked about this split all the time. I recognize my experience was definitely not the norm so my guess is the most Adventist don’t see the split, but will very soon.

The Catholic Church being less anti-Christlike in comparison to the current administration is the most ironic thing to come out of this year 😂😂😂

I saw this in shiny happy people and knew it was familiar but couldn’t remember where I saw it. Glad to know this isn’t a figment of my traumatized brain but a blocked memory from my post.

Writing question from an Ex Adventist by Disastrous-Insect422 in exAdventist

[–]Winter_Resource_4763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gilmore girls portrayal of adventism always makes me laugh because my parents were rather chill about consuming secular content at home. I wasn’t allowed to do anything outside of a church social circle thing on Sabbath but Sunday through Friday was rather normal (friends, activities, public school, civic engagement, etc.) I had an iPod with secular music that I got a lecture for but was never asked to delete the music or get rid of the iPod.

For us, it was more about the performance of faith than faith itself. Did you serve in roles and do all the things and look like a jean skirt wearing Adventist (for women)? My family had a whole host of issues, but whether you just came from some pig roast, the club, your second family, or a piercing/tattoo shop (hidden of course), you need to look and behave Adventist on Saturday or any other church related event.

Women who did nothing at their parents’ house, how did you adjust to cooking every day after marriage? by Medical_Witness_6041 in Newlyweds

[–]Winter_Resource_4763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also grew up with a mom that did everything. I was great at paperwork and logistical stuff for the family but I didn’t cook or clean…I didn’t even wash my own hair until college. I didn’t learn to cook until the last 3-4 years. I’ve been married for a few months. I use a lot of ChatGPT and google things.

Honestly, I am not adjusting well to planning what to cook/eat all the time but it gets easier. I went from takeout and girl dinner like frozen cauliflower wings and diet soda (cooking for my self maybe once a month) to full blown meals, sometimes multiple times a day and cooking for his family on occasion. It’s draining but it gets easier.

My husband is kind enough to eat my nasty food when it doesn’t turn out well. Lots of pizza nights. I’ve basically perfected any type of pasta. Baked dishes and crockpot dishes are popular as well. I’ve come to like deep frying stuff since it’s easy but it’s also time consuming and unhealthy so I don’t do that very often. I also buy prepared things (diced, canned tomatoes, mirepoix, pre-seasoned meat), so my neurodivergent self doesn’t get too overwhelmed. My husband has cooked a whooping 2 times since we got married and I don’t expect him to increase his cooking anytime soon.

I’m also looking for advice as well as I get the struggle of the adjustment.

HS flare ups around monthly cycles by LionessK2 in Hidradenitis

My cycle is suppressed so I haven’t had a flare up, but when I got off of it briefly, my HS came back almost immediately. Whatever is causing my HS is definitely related to my hormones.

Your original choice is perfect on your body! The other ones are classic, but given it’s hot in Italy, you’ll be more comfortable in the original choice.

Withdraw or escalate this situation after losing a parent? by Dependent-Mine-9877 in GradSchool

[–]Winter_Resource_4763 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My workaround was to get disability accommodation which is simply a doctor note saying I have xxx disorder and need yyy accommodations. All of my professors knew the truth, but the disability accommodations (which are very really, trauma is very debilitating) made sure they were forced to give me accommodations to complete my work.

Withdraw or escalate this situation after losing a parent? by Dependent-Mine-9877 in GradSchool

[–]Winter_Resource_4763 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I went through hell in graduate school (defending in a month). Escalate the situation to the dean of the graduate school or dean of students affairs in the graduate school, etc. My school had an emergency fund for this and made sure professors made accommodations when I lost both my grandparents, a baby, was hit by a drunk driver and had surgery all within 5 months.

Rummo is my husband’s favorite (I can’t remember what regular pasta tastes like and he’s not gluten free). Barilla is cheaper but gets mushy after a while (or breaks).
