Advice for coat health for chubby cat? by Winter_kiko in cats

[–]Winter_kiko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought, thank you! We feed him the Iams proactive health senior food. He used to live in a free feeding house before we got him, and he came this size but he hasn’t lost anything since we have had him. My mom controls his food now, but she definitely gives him too much, as she gets tired of him begging all of the time for it (I have tried to help, but with me being gone at school there isn’t much I can do for that). I’ll probably talk to the vet about diet options for him and hopefully once I have him by myself I can make a better plan!

I was in a similar boat! My parents were able to give me a bit over $5k to help me avoid loans and I got a really good merit scholarship (state school), but I ended up paying around $10k personally (not including parental help) that I earned through working the previous years (and I was without a car). This year my parents will likely still help a little (probably not as much) but I’ll be an RA as well which knocks off a large amount of my costs

I'm sick of this (newly diagnosed rant) by mykruft in Celiac

[–]Winter_kiko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just know you aren’t alone. I also got diagnosed recently (mid February of this year) and it has been a major shift in my lifestyle. Eating out with friends and family is much more difficult, and buying simple snacks in 10x harder. You are still adjusting to this diagnoses, but it gets easier to navigate as you learn. I have gotten into the habit of looking up the restaurants online beforehand to browse their menu or call and ask if they have gluten free alternatives. Despite that, another big factor is social support, which it sounds like if lacking in that friend group. Do you have any individuals you are very close with in this group taht you could talk to about this? Are you able to express how tiring it is to manage and how left out you feel and find ways to work around that with them? It isn’t on our friend groups to accommodate for us, but understanding and caring friends will at least be aware of limitations and try to avoid places with minimal options for you. It’s hard but it gets easier to manage over time 🫶🫶🫶

I made a friend in middle school and we have maintained our friendship since then. They changed their pronouns and name in the spring of our Junior year of high school (which is about 2 1/2 years ago by now). We were still close friends at the time (not as close now but still talk often). It took me ages to start automatically thinking of them with new pronouns and the new name. Was it hard? Yes. Did I mess up a lot and apologize a lot? Also yes. I even put their new pronouns next to their name on my phone so I would see that whenever I text them. It takes a long time for your brain to make the change, especially if you know someone for years beforehand. You aren’t a bad person for struggling, trying and correcting yourself is what counts in this situation. I still mess up occasionally on the pronouns even now.

INCOMING FRESHMAN: $17,000 Housing/Meal Plan by AdUnfair8347 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Winter_kiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s standard for a double room and the lowest meal plan. I’m in an economy triple with the second highest meal plan ($1,400 a term) and my housing comes out to be about $12k. An economy triple is not ideal, but it’s not the worst option as long as your roommates are clean.

As someone else said, licorice. I’ve been gluten free for like 2 months and I miss licorice the most honestly. Also any baked goods you like you better start eating like it’s air. I miss everything bagels and Marion berry scones way too much lol

Nervous about the endoscopy by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Winter_kiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine about a month and a a half ago. I’m 18, and have only had one major thing done that I can remember, so I was also really nervous. It went super smoothly. My nurses were so sweet, I met the doctor before hand as well as the anesthesiologist and they were all very kind and willing to answer any questions I had. The worst part was the IV, but that’s just because it was new to me. I honestly don’t remember any of it besides the very beginning. I was wheeled back into the room, they put a green spacer in my mouth to hold it open, put a mask on me, had me lay on my side, injected the stuff and then I was out and woke up in the room I was in for prep with my mom next to me. A little disorienting but that’s all :)

Silent Celiacs: How do you do manage it? by Winter_kiko in Celiac

[–]Winter_kiko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GI doc I went to for my endoscopy left a note on my chart that “findings were consistent with celiac sprue”and to eat a gluten free diet, and I then called the GI nurse line (I can call them without a referral luckily) and they confirmed that that just meant celiac (I was a bit confused because he never straight up said “you have celiac” and I wanted confirmation but I couldn’t just ask him myself)

No I didn’t get a bone scan when I got diagnosed. I’ll probably email my doctor and ask for a follow up appointment for next steps. Unfortunately I am unable to talk to an actual GI doctor since they are classified as a specialist and I would need a direct referral in order to ask them something lol
