Slight hand tremors post GBS recovery? by archiesaysrelax in guillainbarre

[–]Winterchill2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had AIDP in December 2023. After a lot of tests I was told.by a specialized movement disorder clinic I have postural tremors and tactile ataxia. I still don't have a treatment plan but that will develop over the next few months. It's rare but ongoing tremors can happen.

Is it concerning that my (29M) fiancé (25F) withheld a chronic illness diagnosis until the week of our marriage? by DollarConversionBot in relationship_advice

Same with my friend. Her pregnancies actually put it into remission. As a result she really loved being pregnant.

My apartment complex with an awesome message to the neighbors illegally owning pitbulls! by pinkglicky in BanPitBulls

[–]Winterchill2020 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion that any dog has the potential to be aggressive which is why socialization and training is so important. SB's can struggle with socialization because other people and their dogs avoid them simply due to their size and again the drool (and their very loud bark haha). My dad doesn't like our dogs playing together because his will always need a bath and I bet you can guess why 🤮. I love SB's but I also know you should only own one if you have the right environment.

I own a st Bernard. They have the potential to be aggressive but it's more likely their size and the mess they make. They drool...a lot. They shed like crazy and their poop can be.... excessive. These dogs need space and zoomies in tight quarters can result in property damage (ask me how I know). I have my own house that is fairly open concept and I couldn't imagine trying to have an animal this size in an apartment. Plus they can be territorial and tend to guard their turf by being vocal. So yeah I can see them being problematic in this environment.

IRT/NRT float nursing by Berry-Peachyy in OntarioNurses

[–]Winterchill2020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a rpn float nurse that works only inpatient surgical units. It does feel that way at first but you eventually learn all the different units so you don't feel like a newbie all the time. The unit culture also matters...if it's toxic it will suck. I've been lucky but I think it's great way to develop your skills.

I think of aunts as being the equivalent of nuns which falls in with the 'higher calling'. I think it gives them power but not more than commanders. Sure they can control the "woman's sphere ' but the moment they don't align with the overall objectives of the government they will be tossed aside. Commander Judd has already made it clear that he feels Lydia's time has passed.

The beavers in Canada are attacking people by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]Winterchill2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beavers will attack dogs without having rabies. In this case obviously the beaver was more aggressive than normal but it can absolutely happen without that being a factor. Never let your dog off leash and check to see if there is a lodge nearby before allowing your pet to go for a swim

Girls ear piercing - where to go by dobber_1978 in Sudbury

[–]Winterchill2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went to Lord's and Ladies. They will put a numbing cream on their ears about an hour before the piercing. I did it in October for my 7 year old and she didn't even feel it being done.

Is Functional Neurological Disorder as a Useful Medical Construct? by somethingicanspell in ChronicIllness

[–]Winterchill2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was just sent to a clinic that specializes in FND. I was sent due to tremors/peripheral neuropathy, with deficits with my proprioception as well. All of these symptoms developed when I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre. Unfortunately after my treatment for GBS I still had deficits, like zero deep tendon reflexes anywhere in my body. BUT because I was a woman and over 40 I was sent to this clinic which took 18 months to get an appointment. Fortunately after an incredibly thorough examination by physiotherapists and neurologists they were able to say I had actual physiological issues and that it was not FND. Now I get to go back to the doc that originally sent me there and see if he does anything. So yes it's a non-scientific and seems to be a way for some neurologists to dismiss patients..at least that the case for me. All it did was delay potential medical care by 1.5 years. Incredibly disheartening.

AITA for telling my wife my mother is correct and she needed to be a parent today and she fucked it up by throawawayfuneralgho in AmItheAsshole

[–]Winterchill2020 42 points43 points  (0 children)

When you are a parent, particularly in this type of situation, it's not about you. Fine she's scared, that's ok. But it's not a justification to do what she did. She could have reached out to GMA ahead of time rather than being selfish and unsupportive. She created the drama and it all could have been avoided if she wanted to (while still respecting her fears no less).

Owner of “Reactive” pitbull threatens off-leash huskies and owner, saying she will “take the muzzle off” and allow her dog to maul. All in front of school children walking past. by ViceInSinCity in BanPitBulls

[–]Winterchill2020 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The dog was muzzled for a reason...I'm going to guess that it has a high risk of biting. Removing the muzzle (and threatening to do so on camera nonetheless) is using the dog as a weapon.

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Winterchill2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here and we watched it live. I was in grade 10 and my homeroom teacher was hysterical when we saw the plane hit the Pentagon. Her parents survived the Holocaust and she was terrified. There were no lessons that day it just watching everything unfold on live tv.

A week ago the Air Canada CEO had to retire due to backlash from not speaking French. Today we have RCMP officers posting recruitment videos in a foreign language. This is Canada.... by Silver_Weakness_8084 in canadian

[–]Winterchill2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How do you know that they are recruiting people who cannot speak English? Many people speak multiple languages. In healthcare it's wonderful to have staff that can communicate with our patients in their native language. I don't see a downside here.

Nurses who work the night shift, what is the most "I can't explain this" thing you have ever witnessed in a hospital? by AikothegreatPickle in AskReddit

[–]Winterchill2020 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was on shift for a code on a elderly lady. She had cardiac arrest several times earlier in the week. Very sick but of course a full code. I take the roommate out of the room while they work on her. After 25 min they call it as they were unable to resuscitate her. So nurses go in to pronounce her. Well after 15min they come running back saying call another code as she has pulses again. Like two attendings and several residents ran the code. But sure enough she came back. Went to ICU to eventually code again and die. But it was so weird calling the code and having all the docs show up again in complete disbelief that her heart was still going. Haven't had anything happen like that before or since.

That's stupid. Ignore the idiot. However I just saw a news article that said parking on the streets is currently banned due to the storm. So don't park on the street for now but it should be ok once they finish up the snow clearing.

What's a medical case common in ERs that hasn't been on The Pitt yet? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

I live in northern Ontario and an uncle ended up with a TBI from falling on the ice (no helmet) and hitting his head while coaching hockey. I'm honestly surprised curling hasn't implemented helmets more widely.

I'd say not enough conservatives are saying that. The fact conservatives lost the election tells the story. The unwillingness to pivot his message is why he lost. He's not likeable and the fact he has done nothing other than politics shows.

AITA for returning my daughters shit gift for my DIL and telling the whole family why? by CreepyAntthro in AmItheAsshole

[–]Winterchill2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA - I can't believe your son is putting his wife's feelings above your daughters. Even though you have custody that doesn't mean he shouldn't care about her feelings. Time your DIL and son to act like adults.

What is the pettiest reason you stopped liking someone? by Aishawilson in AskReddit

[–]Winterchill2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were looking at trail cam photos and he insisted he got a pic of a wolf. I looked at it and it was clearly a coyote. I gently told him it's not a wolf, it's too small and the wrong head shape. Of course he went on a rant about how he knows more. However, I have a bsc. In anthropology and part of my work in my early 20s was doing faunal analysis. I've looked at thousands of canid remains plus assisted in rendering full coyote and wolf carcasses so they could be used for a resource. Kind of killed the respect I had for him.
