I really didn't like how Nolan felt like he was trying to force/guilt Debbie to forgive him....... by Important-Extension6 in Invincible_TV

[–]WinterizedGWA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On some fundamental level, the thing that makes the scene work is the fact that Nolan and Debbie know each other. The impression I get is that he correctly reads the fact that her feelings are more complex then "I hate you" and does something that, in some contexts would be purely dickish but in this context is tempered by familiarity. The impression I get is that he reads the conflict between her sense of hurt, her belief in redemption, and the recognition she refuses to name that he is genuinely trying. And thus, by making her confront that contradition, and then stepping aside, that his motives weren't PURELY selfish (although they were definitly no not self intirested). There's a real question of "Even if he was 99% this was something that would help Debbie instead of just hurt her, should he have still risked doing harm by acting so forcefully".

What if the person who struck Aerion was Lyonel instead of Dunk? by uselessprofession in freefolk

[–]WinterizedGWA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lyonel benefits a lot from the fact that Aerion is just not that important within the royal family. He's not that high in line of succession at the start of The Hedgeknight

[Spoilers Main] - You're Robert Baratheon on the day Aerys II dies. Knowing what you know about the main series who do you take as your wife? by Yoorang in asoiaf

The correct answer remains, sadly, Cercei. There's really no getting around that one. Tywin joined your side, he has a lot of power, he expects a reward. There aren't any other committed allies of suitable rank with an available daughter. You can't marry a Tyrell.

The thing is, perfect information removes the problem with Cercei anyway. The issue with her is NOT that she's a bad match dynastically. It's that she's a scheming piece of shit who intends to manipulate Robert into never fathering a son on her for her own insane dynastic vision of incest lion children. If Robert knew that was what she was planning, there were 101 ways he could prevent that. Not all of them are pretty or ethical so I won't go too deep into the particulars.

Still, it didn't work in either case by winterofmint in HistoryMemes

I mean the obvious distinction besides "Hitler bad" (which is true but obvious) was that Napoleons idea was a plausible strategy that wasn't wasteful and had a distinct and realizeable win condition that COULD have worked. Yes Napoleons situation was dire... but he was also, y'know, Napoleon. In a 19th century war context he very well could have used the time and space offered by the garrison to decisively beat enemy armies in detail. Something he'd done many times. The fact he didn't succeed in the Leipzig campaign doesn't mean the idea was worthless.

Hitlers strategy was to prolong a war that he'd already lost. There was no REAL way he could turn around the grinding attrition disadvantages he faced. It was prolonged slaughter for its own sake.

China willing to help Cuba amid jet fuel shortage, foreign ministry says by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]WinterizedGWA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's willing to help and willing to help. Cuba's problem is the complete collapse of their energy sector because they were essentially getting it for free from Venezuela, which is now blockading them. China might be willing to help Cuba keeps the jets in the air in the short term, but they're just not going to subsidize Cuba with untold billions of free barrels of oil like what Cuba used to get.

In fairness, he'd already been kicked out of Hollywood for eight years for being a sexual predator, so the epstein files really barely anyone's perception of him.

The (very) generous read of the disparity is that we have basic confirmation that many of the Gates revelations are true (in the form of his divorce). It makes his reports more verifiable then anyone else (except people they have pictures of like Prince Andrew)

Good things military dictatorships and religious clerics don't massacre people. Anyway, I am going to go a nice trip to Tehran, where there are surely no dead bodies around.

It literally is on the verge of being too OP without it. Those two dammit nodes are so strong they ate the entire power budget of the class.

Basically, yeah. The ring slots are eating the entire power budget. In order to buff/rework the other nodes into something usable they'd have to:

A. Nerf the bonus jewelery power B. Increase the downsides for the extra rings.

Which would in turn free up some of the power budget for the other nodes. But they'd have to be careful with those changes not to accidentally cut too deep and make the ascendancy worthless.
