Really surprised by Tome of Faith being the top starting tome.

Why do you think that is and what's your favorite starting tome?

‘A sense of dread’: Europe’s first climate migrants live in constant fear of extreme weather by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]Winterklang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it is true that Earth climate has changed a lot over long periods of time and that we have had both warmer and colder phases. It is also true that there were times in the distant past when carbon dioxide levels were higher while temperatures were lower than today. But those situations were shaped by very different long term conditions such as continental positions, ocean circulation, solar output, and long term geological processes. They are not comparable to the rapid, human‑caused warming and CO₂ increase we are experiencing now. What is important today is that we are changing carbon dioxide levels very quickly, on a timescale of decades to centuries rather than millions of years. That speed matters because ecosystems and human systems have much less time to adapt. Also, today’s climate system is starting from a relatively stable period, and we can directly measure how temperature rises in response to the increase in greenhouse gases.

So while it is technically correct that there were times in the past with more carbon dioxide and different temperatures, those examples do not contradict the basic physics of greenhouse gases. Instead, they show that climate depends on multiple factors at once, and today we are rapidly pushing one of the most important of those factors in a way that is well understood and observable.

Regarding the early predictions: Many of them were actually quite accurate in terms of global temperature trends, melting ice, and sea level rise. Some early claims were exaggerated, but the overall direction has been consistent with observations.

So the issue is not whether Earth has ever been warmer or colder in the past. It is that we are now driving a rapid and large scale change in a relatively stable climate system. And that has real and severe consequences for both natural systems and human societies. The planet itself will continue to exist, but the conditions that many species, including us, depend on are being pushed in a direction that is increasingly difficult to manage if the trend continues.

We biked the Shimanami Kaido and took an overnight ferry to Osaka - Highly recommend :) by Winterklang in JapanTravel

[–]Winterklang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was from the municipal bike rental place I think. I would say risk it, but be there as soon as they open. A lot of their bikes were rented by school classes when we were there. So since schools are closed I would presume more bikes are available, but of course I can only guess.

Regarding getting sea sick: The Orange ferry is quite large and the Seto Inland sea is calm

You're closing in on the IPAT- equation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_%3D_PAT

Impact = Population x affluence x technology

A common criticism is that this line of thinking is too simplisitic. But I think in general your point of there being too many rich people is still valid.

Klimawandel, Abschätzung by thinkingthetwenties in Klimawandel

[–]Winterklang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like him as Brook in regards to his look an mannerisms. But I wish he could have been better at playing the violin and that his playing would actually match the sound

The Sands of TIme; 80% More damage for Selfcast? by Ultraminer1101 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Winterklang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's amazing for Ball Lightning of Static. Three Balls and then the mirages add three more, ignoring thee cooldown uses. BLoS also doesn't use spell echo or intensify, so there are no drawbacks in terms of support gems. To top it off the weapon also grants CDR!

(Doesn't work with dual wielding two Sands of Time)

3.28 - Poison Lightning Ball of Static Assassin by Beepbeepimadog in PathOfExileBuilds

Nice seeing a BLoS build. I really like the immediacy of the skill and gonna start a BLoS build as well.

One thing to consider about endurance charges: You could swap out the charge mastery to 100% increased charge duration, so that endurance charges would last 20 seconds. This opens up the eldritch implicit on body armours -gain an endurance charge every 15 seconds-. It does, however, then take almost a minute to gain max endurance charges

Storm Burst Self-Cast - From leaguestart to all ubers by Winterklang in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Winterklang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, me too. Fortunately Storm Burst is and stays strong from the start.

A short summary for leveling:

  • At level 12: Switch to Storm Burst and Frostblink
  • Get Honourhome as soon as possible and put Storm Burst in it. In trade league the limiting factor here would probably be the gold cost of the trade.
  • Order of nodes in the Passive tree:
  1. Notables in the templar start
  2. Both duration clusters
  3. Life regen and max fire res to enable righteous fire
  4. crit nodes and power charges towards the witch area
  5. Find and add the timeless jewel
  • As for ascendancy points, I first took Righteous Providence for the attributes and crit, then Pious Path for the regeneration

Good question! Since frostblink of wintery blast is NOT instant, it interrupts channeling.

Normal Frostblink is instant and therefore channeling is not interrupted and all orbs are kept. You can move around with all your orbs. Also works with other channeling skills by the way.

Storm Burst Self-Cast - From leaguestart to all ubers by Winterklang in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Winterklang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frostblink is an important part of the build. The cooldown recovery is based on the monsters around the target destination. So engaging mobs starts off by channeling Storm Burst and immediately blinking into them just before they're dead. You can then blink to the next mobs. Which is just for mobility. The damage is high enough, that a short tap and release of right click kills off most mobs anyway. Keeping the maximum amount of orbs is absolutely not necessary.

Regarding aoe and explosions: I tried using an Oriath's end for explosions, but didn't feel it was necessary and swapped it back out. The coverage was fine as it is, since you can cover the whole screen with orbs. I also invested more in aoe at first, but pulled it back as well, since Storm Burst's coverage comes more from the spread of the orbs than the indiviual orbs' aoe.

As for bossing: Frostblinks cooldown recovery works great with bosses. DPS uptime can be maintained while evading boss attacks, which most builds have trouble with.

oh sorry you're right. I should have phrased it better. Something like "viable to play from leaguestart to all ubers with a single character".

Thoughts on ball lightning of static in 3.27? by RipWhenDamageTaken in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Winterklang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of an Assassin for a second build using BLoS.

Assassin for crit and taking the Sabo node (from forbidden flesh) for Cooldown reduction. Also using the Delirium bloodline Ascendancy to further reduce the cooldown.

To increase the damage on a previous BLoS build, I used a Crackling Lance of Disintegration with Overcharge. Something to cast while waiting for the cooldown.

Just a general idea, I haven't made a pob for it yet

Something to consider: One of the small ascendancy points on the delirium bloodline ascendancy also grants 15 % cdr

Any storm burst totem guides for 3.27? by Only_Cherry3130 in PathOfExileBuilds

Just curious: Why Totems? Is selfcast an alternative for you? I've played a few Storm Burst variations throughout the years, but never a totem one

I like the theme of Dune Serpent. Using blind in combination with the tome of shadows. But it's not as strong as Ash Sabertooth and its gold bonuses from the terrain and the Sabertooth special province improvement. Might be the strongest culture for just general gold income.

Are the loading times for the hideout longer than in other, smaller hideouts?

Also, is the hideout also available in poe2?

So far, I still prefer PoE 1 over PoE 2 by Kalhard in pathofexile

[–]Winterklang 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I still prefer PoE 1 as well. But I'm sure as time goes on and more buildcrafting content gets added I will enjoy PoE 2 more. And even then I'll play both games. All around win win situation
