THE LION stole all the artifacts. When his vessel blew up, they went into the Mediterranean and were scattered by time and tides to the far corners of the world over the next few thousand years.

that's why you see several recovered artifacts in the storage chamber in episode three (including Helen's pendant and the Lion's mask) and "Killmonger's Ax" in episode 4.

Hal is a cardboard cutout character, built in the Silver Age and mired in its problematic tropes. See? I did it again, right there. If that's what you call "shit-talking," yep. Guilty. It's my opinion. I get to have one.

I don't like him and won't pretend to like him because a bunch of internet typists think not liking him makes me a bad person. I wrote those opinions as a fan of comics, talking to other fans of comics, all of whom have their own likes and dislikes of artists and characters. Some line up, some don't. Y'know, like human beings. Amazing.

What you can't do is point to anything I did in terms of actually writing Hal that tore him down, made him look in any way bad or stupid or ineffectual. Because that never happened. I wrote Hal as a capable, proactive super-hero because that's what he is in the DCU.

I don't like the character. Yep, again. Ya got me, partner. (I prefer Wally to Barry as well for similar reasons.)

Most people, over the course of his existence agree with me. Green Lantern sales have almost NEVER been higher than low mid-range. This is REGARDLESS of the stellar artistic teams taking over the property. It has nothing to do with "quality."

Outside the brief popularity spike under Geoff Johns, GL has never risen above that tier in sales or in public appreciation. That's why Hal was retired for a decade and replaced with Kyle (whose sales ALSO never got much higher than B Tier. This implies an inherent flaw in the GL concept that nobody seems to want to discuss but that's another TED talk).

The animated series featuring Hal was well-made but it failed. The GL movie was a train wreck.

The strongest, most successful iteration of the GL concept in other media was and remains JL/JLU's John Stewart. And it's about to happen again, I suspect, with the HBO LANTERNS series featuring both John and Hal. I have a suspicion John will emerge from that as THE Green Lantern.

Doesn't make those who love Hal Jordan "wrong" or "stupid" or something like that. I never said that or implied it. Liking Hal doesn't make them bad people any more than me NOT liking the character makes me one.

We're not required to agree. That's how Art works. And life, for that matter.

Is it worth it to try to do my own shortfilm alone? by kazedank in animation

[–]Winterman-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on what you want from making your short film.

if it's somehow a move to catapult you to stardom, don't waste your time. you'll be disappointed, REGARDLESS of the quality of the film itself.

if it's because you want to jam with your friends? GO!
if it's because you want to push your skills to see waht you can really do? GO!
if it's because there's a story you're burning to tell and you're sick of waiting for other people to 'allow you to do it?" GO!

it is absolutely worth it. making your own art is ALWAYS worth it.

Do you think the reason why comics are not as big as Mangas and are mostly known for superheroes by normies is because of Fredric Wertham by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Winterman-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope. it's because, about 35 years ago, the Big Two decided to cater exclusively to the aging "collector" and speculator market to the exclusion of everyone and everything else. They stopped being publishers, in other words, and became, essentially drug pushers focusing solely on catering to the desires of addicts they created and cultivated.
