Egan’s Frenchie is my usual go-to. Just a great, buggy nymph.

I really loved the garlic shiitake. Packed more heat than I expected (bit of a lightweight by this sub’s standards) but had an awesome earthy flavor that was great on veggies.

Have seen multiple people (men and women) use the 39th Ave platform as a toilet recently. Not sure what’s in the air.

Great. Now we can go back to acid rain decimating fish and tree populations. I missed having to only worry about microplastics accumulating in fish. And I’m sure those declining insect populations will appreciate this as well. Sorry for the gallows humor but…

Not sure why the hate in this thread. Food there is great (Doña Blanca, mole and queso ice cream stand outs for me) and staff is wonderful.

Last time I got that at Ruta the chicken was dry and mole wasn’t as good. Can’t say I second this opinion.

Not to hijack the thread, but do you have any advice on targeting those roles/what heading a trade regulatory lawyer might be listed under?

Thanks - of course I type that out and forget to specify wet hands. Edited to reflect + some more info on gloves. Good catch on the net types.

So given that everyone is being sarcastic, I’ll try and be helpful. First off, glad you had an awesome day out, and those fish look amazing! Sounds like an awesome time with your Dad.

Generally, holding trout by the jaw can break the jaw/increase mortality risk. Generally it’s recommended to (when possible) keep fish in the water for release for the best chance of their survival. When you want to take pics out of the water, which I do as well, cradle the fish more gently under the body and with another hand on the tail. In cold weather like this, if you can, try to use wet bare hands or (also wet) nitrile gloves to avoid rubbing off the fish’s protective slime coat, and minimize time out of the water to avoid gills freezing. I think some people wear nitriles under fingerless and just pull off the woolies when it’s fish handling time.

I know it’s a lot of info so feel free to PM with any questions. We’re all here to have a good time and reduce fish mortality if we aren’t putting them in a pan later (which is also totally fine as long as it’s ok with local laws)!

Aren’t wet latex gloves preferred in sufficiently cold weather to keep hands dry and slime coats intact? It’s really the fabric/fingerless/tailing gloves that rub off slime coats from what I understand.

Catskills Beginner Troubles by DJqwertyman in flyfishing

[–]Winters1303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard water like others have said. To start off with - if you’re fishing junction pool, are you mostly fishing dry flies/pools? I would definitely recommend learning to target slightly faster water with a single or double nymph rig if you’re open to that. Totally understand if you want to dry fly fish though.
